This is a Chinese tablet, fluky wifi is frequently is a problem with these things.

It's not malware. You could try looking for a software update, more than likely it's a hardware problem though.
I usually do NOT recommend anyone buy cheapo off-brand tablets from China, they're usually seen on Ebay, Amazon, Taobao, Alibaba, Made-in-China, etc.
