Default Wipe and Load Ematic Eglide Reader 2.2?

Hello everyone,

My friend was given an Ematic Eglide Reader 2.2 for Christmas and, the best I can tell, it's pretty much just short of being a brick. It doesn't function very well, does not come pre-loaded with the Play Store, and thus far I've been unsuccessful in installing either that or the Amazon App Store.

So my question is, would it be possible to just wipe it clean and install a fresh, unadulterated copy of the Android operating system on it so that it would function more like a normal Android tablet rather than a scaled back e-reader? Or, at the very least, find a way to get the Play Store and/or Amazon App Store installed on it?

Thank you all for any help!
