Default Flytouch 3/Flytouch 2.2 Tips and Tricks

Ok I figured some newbies could use a thread like this. So please add on useful tips you have.

1) Some apps will not install. Unmount and remove your microSD card and most will install now including Angry Birds.

2) The battery drains like a mofo when idle. Turn this thing off(and hit the reset pinhole) or have a charger handy constantly.

3) The speakers are garbage. NOTHING can be done about this. I've tried the audio boost and nothing helps. Go to your nearest tech store, but a pair of battery powered(small) speakers and live with it...or use headphones. Try this one or something like it: Battery Powered Speaker

4) Flash in the browser sucks, it works...but it sucks. Grab the Dolphin HD browser from the market to work around this.

5) To me this goes without saying but, download a different launcher. Yes the 3d InfoTM launcher is pretty but it's useless. Try Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, both have custom themes(downloadable from the market) and are pretty sharp on this device.

6) Don't worry about hosing your device. There is a factory reset built in and easily accessible. As long as it can power on/off, From a powered off state, hold power, menu, and back(the big round button) for a few seconds and you'll see the recovery screen. It will put you back to stock(how the device came)

7) To sync Calendar and contacts check out this blog post: http://got-google.blogspot.com/2011/03/calendar-and-contact-sync-flytouch-3.html
** Thanks to Bleyten for sharing this one.
Enjoy!

A screen protector came with mine when I purchased it. Problem for me is that it is so damn big its hard to get on right without having more bubbles than a bubble bath! GRRR!

Ok, I just tried the Bluetooth mouse dongle and it worked the 1st time. Right click is the menu botton. The mouse is a Rocketfish that I used with my old Laptop. The wheel even works as a scroll, this is great for when I home at my desk.

I just realized that I ordered 4 gb and not the 8 gb. Someone had posted some wonderful photo's of the innards and it's clear that the difference is simply another SD card on the inside.

Presuming I have accepted the fact that I will void my warranty, can I simply put a different SD card into the slot and do a factory reset? I have not received my device yet but I plan to root it right away and make a backup.

Am I allowed to ask more than one question? I see postings of ROMS from Tim. I really appreciate his efforts but one question. Where does the ROM data reside? Is it on the internal SD card or is it actually flashed into a chip? Relating back to Question 1, if I were to replace the stock SD card and put it in a safe place, can I just ROM the new SD card and have something to go back to?

I accidentally pressed the gps_test icon and now there's a green "search" indicator next to the wireless icon at the top of the screen. Restarting it didn't make it stop. I also tried settings/manage applications/running but I'm not sure what it is there. How do I turn that off?

I read on another site to do the following; on home , click settings -> privacy and location .. turn off GPS [ should be 2nd one]

The problem is that when I click setting -> I do not see an option "PRIVACY AND LOCATIONS"?....how do I get rid of that GPS Green Search light at the top of my Screen?...Any suggestions?

You took the wrds right out of my mouth with this post. I have the flytouch 3 with 4d flashed. Now I keep away from anything GPS because when I do try to use this function, the GPS icon appears at the top and there is nothing I can do to remove it except re flash it. If anyone can help with this orhave experieced this please let me know. i would like to use my GPS eventually, but without the hassle of a flashing icon that wont disappear after Ive finished using the app.

HERE IS HOW YOU REMOVE THE GPS ICON FROM THE MAIN MENU

from the main menu select "SETTINGS"
- THEN SELECT "LOCATION & SECURITY"
- TAKE THE CHECK MARK OFF OF "USE GPS SATELLITE....THAT SHOULD REMOVE THE ICON FROM THE TOP OF THE MAIN MENU.....I read how to do this on one of the threads located here....let me know if it works?....I spend hours trying to figure it out.....

I've tried the factory reset (power+menu+back) and it worked the first time I tried it. However the unit would still not accept a charge (charger is ok checked with meter). I also tried hard reset. Unit just vibrates and will not boot. Help???!! I've already opened so if there's something inside I should look at (maybe charge battery directly?) Also no LED light from charger. Ebay seller is providing no response. I will post her name after giving 1 more day.

You are reading the wrong tutorials.. You state you have a DISCO model....look here http://www.apad.tv/apadforum/showthread.php?416-Hybrid-ROM-(rooted) for the modified Firmware or herehttp://www.apad.tv/apadforum/showthread.php?435-New-official-Superpad2-Flytouch3-firmware-available-for-testing-V4.90-(3_28) for the official updates..

Hello, sorry for re opening this but I really need help.
The apps wont install like you said, but I don't even have a SD card in, unless there's some secret compartment for it that I don't know about.
I'm going to buy a micro SD card tomorrow though so I can flash the firmware or whatever, it's at 2.3.
And thanks for the advice for Pro Launcher it's not as laggy. Somebody please help though because I don't know what to do and I can't install apk files off of browsers.

Hi, did you know that you can connect a harddrive2.5 or 3.5 to you Flytouch tablet. Just reformat you drive to FAT format, and should work fine. Great for carrying movies with you. Or save all you apps and games.

Hi GMANROD, you should look for the option in settings called Location & Security, not Privacy & Location. You can turn off you GPRS in Use GPS satellites.
