I bought one of these boxes and I'm trying to figure out if I can load Ubuntu on it. I've been following this and some other forums and there is a lot of good information coming out in bits and pieces, so I setup a wiki Main Page - AndroidTVWiki To share the info about these Android TV Boxes. I have started putting the interesting bits in but anybody else who wants to, feel free to update it.
Padon my ignorace. I have an incredible S so have never looked into all this stuff before. (Not rootable). Now we have the iso does this mean we can build custom ROMs?
(By We I mean everybody but me )
Possibly? this device has a rather strange update method we need to find out what that is before we do anything.

You are right man this is embarrassing i don't even remember the device naming in Linux though i am sun certified system admin well that was loooooong time ago, again the sd card is 1GB and the update was some 170 mb i should have seen the size of the image, anyway let me see and try again i will try to replace the device name to the usb device and see if i can do it
ok got the right disk this time check the screen shot now uploading this one is 1 gb image as it is supposed to be. my applogies to the 8 people who downloaded the previous image under the impression that it was the sd card image iso , i goofed up i guess it has been a while for me to get into the nitty gritty again now have "fat fingers" so to speak

No recovery Yuck. I'm rubbish with all this stuff . All new to me. Since being able to S-OFF the Incredible S I have been doing a few things. All of it was flashable through recovery so I wasn't worried.
Looks like I've got some learning to do to get this bad boy going properly.
I ordered mine over the weekend and it was shipped yesterday.
Will let you all know how it goes. Hopefully will arrive today.
So does this still have some sort of H-Boot installed ?
No it doesn't seems like our units as we dont have analog audio out or analog video out , anything nearest to this specification is http://www.mesada.com/index.php?categoryid=1 but they also dont have all of this either this is new one going to hit the market i mean the next version of this box or the guy handling your email was stoned mate please do clarify with them that they do understand which versions we have thanks

Took it home, sat safely on the passenger seat and opened it up.
Upon opening the box, the Flexiview itself was not in any plastic packaging. Neither was the remote.
The box is covered in scratches and scuff on the top side. The remote has two minor scratches on it and the batterys were installed in the remote.
The prongs on the power supply has scratches on the from being plugged\unplugged.
It is obvious that this box is not new. Bloody Fleabay :@
Can anybody who has the "Flexiview" branded box confirm how theirs was packaged? I.E was everything in plastic wrappers, batterys seperate from remote etc etc?

Mine was like this as well. I messaged the seller and he said all units are tested upon entering the UK to make sure they still work. I wasn't that fussed really.
I had... batteries in the remote, protective plastic in the box not on the front of the unit, dodgy shaving adaptor already on the end of the Chinese plug and a couple of scratches on the box.
Not the happiest of chaps.

Mine from Pandawill.com was really new. STB, remote and all cabels were in seperate plastic packages.
Looks like this device uses some modified version of Das U-Boot loader. But this loader updates itself every time you update firmware. So, this is rather dangerous.
It is also possible to dump and probably modify /system and /system/app partitions. But I did not understand yet how to modify /rc.init script...

When I got mine, it also looked like it has been used....BUT!
If you look carefully, you'll see there is a VERY THIN FILM on the box, and if you peel that of...... brand new!
i got mine from the uk (live in germany) today as well, everthing was packaged in a plastic bag and looked brand new.
after a few times of playing arround i noticed a few annoying problems. First i got my BT keyboard paired but not working, but if read allready that there is a update for this? do you know which one and how to flash? then i have a problem with the output, i have a 32" Full HD TV by LG and the picture looks good, but when something is moving on the screen it gets heavy tearing. which is very annoying imo, especially in games and movies with many fast scenes.
Looked in the config of the player but it doesnt really allow me to change much there. Then i checked my tv and it told me it got a 1080p signal at 30Hz. i think this is the problem... is this normal?

you do need to upgrade the system with update after that blue tooth should work the update is available here with instructions of how to do one word of warning upgrade at your own risk if you brick your system no one is responsible Android Tv Box Flexiview FV-1
yes you have guessed it correct mine says 1080P at 50hz to try that setting on your tv might help

Hmm cant change this with my TV i think, tried everything on the tv side but its stuck at 30Hz, thats very annoying
i think this uni uses some kind of tv auto detect, as it was working on another HDready only TV i tried. 720p at 50hz would be enough for me, but where is the option to change this..
btw, when i upgrade the official app catalog is gone right? how can i get this back?
I ran the update and watched the serial output while it was performed. It updated mboot, kernel, ramdisk, system, app and then some more hijinks. I tried to put the images in the wiki but I haven't figured out how that works yet.
Mine shipped with an older. I did some hex searchs of the update image and I couldn't seem to find an area defining the kernel location and size like I would expect from my uboot experience. So that is a bummer since I was hoping to find how this image was configured and replace it with my kernel. It also pretty much confirms for me this image file isn't going to mount without heavy modification so I think the way to get the image off the system is to copy it from a rooted, running system.

Hi I have some questions and will be grateful if u guys can help..
1. What formats does the device read of external hard disk..does it read ntfs??Is there a hack for ntfs mount?
2.How well does a wired or ir mouse work? could i use it for swype and games..
3.Pandawill is selling this box (Flexiview)with internal 8gb..Is that all available for applications.. Does that mean there's a way we can upgrade internal memory if we get a 2gb one..
4. Has anyone tried the mobo player on this device..It might play mkv's well.
5.How good is wifi for streaming apps like tv show stream, megaviewer pro..?
I am very excited about this device.. Will be willing to contribute whatever I learn about it.. I'm planning to order mine from pandawill for 149, let me know if there's a better option..thanks for your help
i have to say i really love this thing
you can also turn it in a emulation center.
try emus like Snes 9x EX, gbc.emu and so on, you can control them with a keyboard or if you have wiimotes lying arround you can pair them with the unit and play with up to 4 players or use wiimote controller and control official games with it.

1. NTFS HDD works just fine (atleast my 1TB HDD)
2. wired mouse works just as good as a mouse, swipe works fine.
3. i doubt it has 8GB internal memory... mine has 2GB only, currently its not possible to put apps on SD.
4. Havent tried this player but dice player works very well for MKV (its the fastest player i tried yet), even 720p. Sadly i wont let you change audiotracks or subtitle tracks.
5. havent tried streaming yet and i also have it connected through RJ45

Thanks a lot dear for the prompt reply..Just bought one on ebay.. Got a new toy to fiddle with..
How can I stream video to my FV-1 Google TV? I have a PC setup in another room with shared drives that I can access in othere networked media players I have around the house. All my videos are divided up into folders just like a DVD and they are all DVD rips. I would like a plpayer that would allow me to pick a folder and play it like a DVD. Any help is appreciated.
Also I have a hard rive attached to the FV-1. Can I put apps on this hard drive? I haven;t been able to find a way and was wondering if anyone else has?

Which update did you do?
Also what changes are there?
I used the update posted earlier in this thread. I guess its bootloader 1.11 vs 1.12 from what I can tell.
The only change I noticed with the update was the netflix app no longer worked. I had to go get the XDA version that stripped out the UUID check. After that, netflix is playing fine. The other change is the message at boot, it says "Super Spring: computer and internet tv" while it boots, it didn't use to say anything.
Also is it supposed to have internal bluetooth or is everyone using a USB bluetooth adapter? I wasn't sure, I tried both but neither seems to be turning on correctly.
I did not attempt bluetooth before I did the update, maybe I've got the wrong firmware for my box now.

If you install APK files on an sdcard you can browse to them in the file browser and then install them. I figure that will probably work from the hard drive the same way, if that is what you mean.
I think if you want to move an application that is installed to internal memory to the sdcard you can go into settings->applications->manage applications->[the app]-> move to sdcard. I dont know if it will let you move to the HD instead. Usually it only seems to allow certain apps to be copied, I'm not sure what the criteria is.
Sadly apps can only be stored on the internal memory yet.
Yes there is a option to move apps from internal to SD but, the /sdcard folder on the system is only a dummy, the real SDcard is mounted under /sdcard/external-sd (or something like that).
We hope this get fixed with a new update.
As for HDD/USB, its also (yet) not possible to store apps on those. you can access them just fine and install apps from it but it wont allow you to move them to this place later. sure, even this could be fixed with a firmware update or a custom rom, but those chinese manufacturers often dont push that many firmware updates out for the releases. Hope that we will see atleast a custom rom in the future.
Hi, A quick question for people who's already got the box: what's the size of flash memory or INAND? The information on the manufactor's website said 4G, but other suppliers gave from 2G to 8G. Can anyone kindly confirm if there are boxes with diferent INAND? Thanks
Finally ran the update provided above. initial impressions are all good! you can still root with z4root. The Applications setting option is now there so you can enable adb etc. with no problems. New boot screen looks a bit better but i was never that fussed really.
There are a fair few custom apps on here (like the gallery etc) that you might not think were edited for the thing. Still stripped most of them out! Anyone got anywhere with teh .osk file format or the disk image posted above?
Hi guys,
i orded this box and should test it very soon. My objective is to show that this box can be used as a settop box. Do you now if it can handle multicast traffic ?
Do you know if there is already an android app that could do th job ?
Beside I would also like to use it with an HD webcam, the perfect match would be Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 (which works with skype, som maybe it is ok).
Thanks for your feedbacks !
By the way, if you are a developper of android apps and fancy a nice internship in my company developping apps for this box for a FTTH network (open access FTTH network) please do not hesitate to contact me

Just called the manufacturer it turned out that they only make 2 G at the moment, but can make 4G if order more than 500 pieces.

which one did you upgrade your system to the Chinese language one (meaning the upgraded system defaults back to Chinese language and you get a ton of Chinese bloatware ) or the other English one ??????
There is really something wrong with HD playback on this device.
Tablets of similar configuration are able to play 1080p over hdmi as reported by users.
FV-1 can't even play Big Buck Bunny smoothly.

BigBuckBunny plays even worse on DICE. Like a slideshow.
try version 1.0.6 (google) and test it with this version, for some reason this one is much smoother for me too :-/ sadly it doesnt support selecting audiostream and it has to extract the subtitle before playing.
hello,
i just received the box and unfortunately I can't dowload any apps on it from tne android market. I have access to the android market from the desktop icon, i naviguate through the android market and i can't select applications. However when i want to download the apps, it launchs the download process but the apps are not downloaded (the progression bar stays frozen).
Any idea why it does not work ?
Thanks.
in case this helps:
version android 2.2
version noyau 2.6.32.9
numero du build R11016170-S11016170 FRF91
Application Version A01016171_app_A9000J_20110617R_HW
I have another question, I read that skype has developed an application that supports visio calls. Unfortunately it is supported on Android 2.3 ...
Any idea if flexview will be able to support skype application ?
