Hi Guys, Thanks for your help, but nothing seems to work regarding updating firmware. I have tried both versions that you mentioned, I have tried 4 different SD Cards 2 different Card Readers, it just seems to find the package OK, then can't do anything with it, and within about 10 seconds of trying it turns from green to red and the message in large writing says "Updating Failure" then I can choose ReBoot then it comes back to normal.
The normal that I mean is very poor quality video, YouTube only works for the pre installed videos, if I search for another that I want to see, it comes up with Forceclosure. Impossible to watch movies from Crackle, or anywhere else.
I am now waiting for a reply from the Australian distributor about an exchange unit, as there must be something wrong with the software in the unit.
You mentioned Download Links, I have 2 from Geniatech, the first one is quite large 133mb and the second is for Australian neoniQ or GTV220 units, the size of that one is about 50mb. http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/Androidtvbox/update_eng_0916.zip
Hope there are some improvements for you, usual method of upgrading, I will keep you posted on what happens to my unit.
It is a shame really, that we get better service from Geniatech in China, than we do from local companies.
Hi there, people. In Brazil mail workers are on strike for 24 days now, so my delivery was greatly delayed. Only got my ATV1000 yesterday! I plugged everything in assuming that the included USB dongle was for the QWERTY remotes - I purchased an extra remote just in case, they both came black instead of white as depicted on webstite.
Wi-Fi reception is not great, unfortunely, and that small antenna can't be removed for replacement with a bigger one or an extension cable - that's a bummer. Will have to do the trick on my router.
Browser is sluggish as a, well, slug. I don't like it at all, I prefer much more Opera. I simply adore the experience I have in my Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000. In order to get rid of that old Angry Birds version and install the newer one, update Flash and get all applications I need, first I need a firmware update, is that correct?
Now: I've seen at least 2 firmware updates made available here by posters from Geniatech's website. One is from August and another from September. Anything newer? Some recommend the former, some the latter. There is Market 2.2.1 and 1.8.2 for Amlogic AML8726-M platform. Which is preferable? Can I install 2.2.1 directly or must it be done over 1.8.2? Or should I first update the entire firmware, prior to any market update?

As regard firmware upgrade, considering what you say, certainly the problem could be due to hardware, but also, to wrong firmwares, not adapted to your neoniQ (probably none of these four firmwares are for your device);
instead for the question of youtube videos I ask you if you have changed browser setting from: desktop to: android, because if not, you won't be able to have the right video quality.
Let us know
- comes with Flash 10.2 preinstalled, which doesn't allow for updates from Android Market or APK install;
- built-in Flash player can't be used by Opera Mobile - the browser simply can't see it;
- doesn't come with screen resolution and position settings;
- allows for installing of complete Android Market with all apps.
update_20110804.zip
- doesn't come with Flash installed, so it can be installed from APK and Opera Mobile can use it;
- comes with screen resolution and position settings;
- the Android Market will show mostly chinese apps, doesn't show Opera, Dolphin, Flash and many other apps.
gio965, you're the one who told us the idea of installing update 20110804 and Flash 10.3. I did what you suggested and it worked just fine, however when installed Android Market, all I got was apps not worth bothering with. I searched for Opera, Dolphin, Flash, IMDb and many others, they never show up. Tried all Market updates available here and even on other forums. The only way I could download Opera, Dolphin and the same apps I can get on my Galaxy Tab P1000 is if I am using update 20110909. Any ideas?

Hi gio965
Thanks for your advice, any help is good, however it was set firstly to Android, and Youtube was no good, the distributor told me to change it to Desktop. This was no better.
About the Firmware Updates, none of them have installed, and Geniatech Support have told me that the neoniQ and the GTV220 are the same as the ATV100.
On another Forum that I am on in Australia, other members have told me that they have updated the GTV220 without any problems.
Geniatech Support have now told me to ask my distributor for another unit and Geniatech will ask for it to be sent to them for analizing. Hope I get somewhere

Hi Bugfinder, there are many ways to download apk files (apart android market) and all of them need the use of a PC.
The simplest way is that of typing into google search: namefile.version apk
(for example: opera11 apk, dolphin apk) and if, as results, you find that you can download from sites like: filecrop, mediafire, filesonic, megaupload, easy-share... then, you can be sure that freely you can do it (generally you must wait less than a minute for slow, free, download).
Another way is that of using: Slideme market, with which, also without registration, you have the possibility to search and download thousands apk files.
You can also install Slideme into your device, downloading the latest version, SAM 4.3, from their site (you find lots of apk, but not always the latest).
At last, save your apk files into an usb support (sdcard or pendrive) and install them using appinstaller.
Try and let me know.
Yes I know that it's possible to do just what you described. I even did that with Opera, because it came from the developer's website. However, who guarantees me that apk's coming from "filecrop, mediafire, filesonic, megaupload, easy-share..." aren't tampered with? How can you know that a hacking group didn't mess with the apk and installed some spying program to steal your passwords once you type then and send them from the Internet back to them? It's not far fetched, you know. It's a real scenario and quite dangerous, mind you.
I prefer much more Android Market because, even thought it wouldn't be 100% free from this kind of danger, at least it has some policy regarding this issue and others. Besides, if I download Opera from there, I know it must come from the developer - differently than if I download from any online hosting website. Same thing goes for Flash, FTP, instant messaging etc.
Now, can you be sure that the browser you're using is not sending your info to somebody across the planet?
On watching YouTube videos: my ATV1000 has the 20110804 update and I installed Flash 10.3.186.6, Dolphin HD 5.1 & Opera 11.1. I can only watch smooth videos on YouTube if they're 240p - anything above that and they're jerky as hell. It's connected to a FullHD Panasonic plasma TV via HDMI. Anybody has better performance? Ideas why and what to do to improve?
This kind of performance is so below my Galaxy Tab P1000 that borders the absurd. I was so naive to think this product could match my tablet's performance...

What you say is true, but generally speaking we can never be sure for any
firmware that we install (even if downloaded by developer's site).
Regarding Youtube videos I can confirm that with 20110804 update, Flash 10.3.186.6 installed I have no problem to watch 1080p HD videos.
The essential thing to do is setting browser as: android (if it is set as: desktop you will have low resolution), and also installing hdmiswitch for a higher resolution, if not, resolution will be at 720p.
If you have just made it, with no results, i couldn't know...perhaps the presence of dolphin or opera browser?
Try to disinstall them and use the default browser set as android.
I think you are confusing youtube videos with other video types. I can confirm that this box has a problem with flash videos such as youtube and catchup tv. Geniatech know of the problem and are working on it. The fear I have is that it is a hardware problem so cannot be fixed.
HT1, thank you for confirming my findings. Smooth videos on YouTube are only possible in 240p, at least for me. Anything above that and all I can see is a jerky, jerky slideshow. Who is the person you contacted at Geniatech?
Hi kaygee46 there is quite a lot of info. on that thread that could interest other members on this thread. Also, there is another thread on Whirlpool Forums dedicated to the Flexiview FV-1 which is very interesting. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1679431

I don't know what to tell you, probably we have different results because we have the same device but different series (I bought my ATV1000 from an italian dealer).
A question (both you and Bugfinder): when you enter youtube (or facebook),
does your browser change its loading, automatically, from: youtube.com to m.youtube.com
(or from: facebook.com to: m.facebook.com)?
If not, this could mean that problem is in browser which doesn't work as mobile,
with all consequences that come from.

Hmm.. open browser, and in setup check what type of keyboard is in use.
Android is likely to be set. Change to the desktop.

For being more sure, I have made another trial (and I invite you to do the same).
I installed an application: MovieTube HD v 3.0 (that gives links to youtube Hd videos),
and all videos are smoothly played by my device. Is the same for you?
This is the link for application: http://slideme.org/mobileapp/download/d4f27662-bb99-11e0-8c69-00505690390e.apk
Have tried the Movietube. Video plays fine other than a lot of buffering.
Does not alter the fact that when playing via browser catchup tv and utube unwatchable. My flexview FV-1 does not have same problem. Thinking of selling Geniatech as catchup tv was one of main uses.

I understand you...regarding catchup tv, I can't tell you anything (and I can do no trial), because in Italy, there is not a similar service, but regarding youtube, with my ATV1000, I don't wait for any buffering, so (as just you think) surely there must be a problem (hardware or software?) in your device.
Rather than selling, you should ask your dealer to change your ATV1000 with another one (of another series), because, not all ATV1000 have problems but only a part of them (with mine, at least regarding youtube, I have no problem), and surely Geniatech knows this situation.
Here is Geniatech's latest reply to my complaints listed here: Geniatech Enjoy TV

I am so sorry for late reply. Because of we are in HK fair these days.
For your doubt, yes, all words you said as below are right, update_20110909.zip is a version which supports android market properly, and improve flash video playback from internet, the flash 10.2 inside it is a special 10.2 verison, update_20110909.zip only supports this flash version, and it can't be replaced by any other flash version.
because of it improved flas video playback, and most of customers need this function, but this verison does't support resolution swicth function, the box will go to die if we add resolution switch in it.
About update_20110804.zip, the performance of flash video playback on internet is not so good, so we release update_20110909.zip.
But, maybe next week, we will release android 2.3 firmware version, it supports android market, resolution switch, 3G, AP, etc functions, but flash still is flash 10.2.*.*, this flash verison is a optimal verison for our solution, not the one in android market, flash10.3 is not so good contract with this special flash 10.2.*.*/
The main problem I have with 20110909 is that Opera won't work with this special Flash 10.2 version - otherwise I would be fine with it. Let's hope the new OS version solves this problem.
Hi HT1 and Bugfinder, I realised a video which demonstrates that, not all ATV1000 devices have problems
with hd videos from youtube, so that, you can ask explanations to Geniatech or to your local dealer
(or the substitution of the device, if your problems depend by factory flaw).
Obviously you must be sure to have quite enough bandwidth (mine is about 4000 kbps)
and as I always repeat, browser set as android.
Please watch it and let me know.

The Following User Says Thank You to gio965 For This Useful Post:
Hi all, in these days, I'm doing some trials on my ATV1000 regarding Youtube.
I've found results, really interesting, that I would like to share with you.
The first is that: we can always watch youtube videos (on mobile devices) even without flash player installed (because, in m.youtube.com, videos are not in flash but in RTSP/3GP with H263/AMR) and so there is no reason to link video problems on youtube, that some ATV1000 devices have, to flash player.
We must consider that, on an android device, we need to install flash player, only for flash content on web pages or, if we want to enter youtube, or similar sites (with browser set as desktop), but in this case, videos will be unwatchable, because we will be trying to watch heavy, not optimized, flash videos on a device build with 800Mhz CPU and 512Mb RAM.
The second is that: we can have an higher video resolution (similar to MKV) on hd videos from youtube, if we set browser as: Ipad (but we need more bandwidth, if not, we can have problems with buffering).
In the first part, I uninstall flash player and I show that videos on m.youtube.com are played the same, also without it.
In the second part, I change browser setting from: android ---> ipad, and I show the improvement to the video after this change (even if, really, it can't be appreciated a lot, for low quality of my filming).
Interesting testing. When I have some free time, will do that myself too. For now, I contribute with this reply I got from Judy, of Geniatech support:
Quote:
I just testt Opera browser 11.1 on our android2.3 testing version, it still can't find flash installed, we are will try to fix it and let you know result.
I also tested some other browser on our box without the same problem, such as dolphin HD browser, Fire fox
Yet my FV-1 plays flash video fine and the Geniatech is meant to have a better processor.
Yet my FV-1 plays flash video fine and the Geniatech is meant to have a better processor.
Just a curiosity...when you watch videos, do you enter: youtube.com or m.youtube.com?
(browser set as: desktop or android?)
Because there is a great difference between them.
In youtube.com, videos are in flash, and devices as ATV1000 or FV-1
have great difficulties to play them; instead, in m.youtube.com
(youtube for mobile devices), videos are not in flash but in RTSP/3GP
(format created for mobile devices as our ATV or FV-1), and are played smoothly.
Did you watch my last video?
There, I show that my ATV1000 plays videos from youtube, also without flash, because really,
(setting browser as: android or ipad) I enter in m.youtube.com, where videos are not in flash.
I invite you to do this trial: using your PC, you must enter in m.youtube.com, and try
to play a video...it will be impossible, because, those videos are not in flash, but optimized for mobile.
Let me know...
Does anyone tried to use one the ATV1000/2000 Chainfire3D app? Its easy with z4root to get the root and install Chainfire3D. With Opengl plugin you can run the games from Tegra zone. Lets start tweak our boxes

Hi sznemo77, I've never used Chainfire3D and, as I seem to understand, it gives improvement to graphic, inside games.
Really, I'm not a lot interested to games, so I ask you, if the installation of this app can give other advantages and improved performances to our device.
Flash videos appear to play fine for me on my ATV2000, plays HD clips on Gametrailers.com without any issues as one example.
Flash banners are rendered by the CPU and they will cause slow downs but the Flash video element hands off to hardware acceleration were present which the Amlogic chipset is more than capable of handling.
Could be bugs were the Flash hardware acceleration is failing to be invoked by the driver or something along those lines.
gio965 I don't think you will see any improvements unless playing games or using the dynamic backgrounds with Chainfire3D, for an overall OS improvement Cyanogenmod would have to be ported by Geniatech which is meant to run faster than stock Android.
I apologize for my bad English, I am using the google translator.
Not Only I have a TV which would be equivalent to ATV1000 (identical on the outside and inside).
I have this firmware 1108 which is a customized version pra Not Only TV, but the only customization is seen in the bot start when displaying your logo.
Although set date November 08, really is 06 months and therefore no improvements I have noticed in the 0909 version.
This 0909 version is very good because as I've noticed changes the cursor is hidden after a few seconds, the program results AnTuTu.apk 250 points up some more, more fluent in everything and even flash videos from web fluid can be seen.
The downside of this is precisely the Flash version is rome when switching to another web video and can not gain more than 720p (HD and FullHD).
I do not know if you understood, but with the web of reproduction I mean a small window video posted on this website such as the previous videos.
If I go to youtube and view the video big, everything is great and works well.
Online channels (Live TV), also work well but the same thing happens, the screen goes black if I change the video source (look for another page and another video vision).
He returned to his original version, which if you can put in full HD from the settings menu.
But this version has the problem that the videos from the web will be jerks and play and forget about online tv because it is the same (although improving something).
At the end of the month and tell me they will be android version 2.3 which are tested.
According to Spain could be supported even before my disposal.
I think if version 2.3 has improved its kernel version update_0909 and solve also the problem of Flash, but what is all an optimization of 2.3 versus 2.2, we certainly have a good product.
Note that 2.3 increases the power phones for example, up to 25 percent, which will note the change for the better with version 2.3
Well hello to everyone and if I remember something more qu meant, so I will comment.

Hi next121, thanks for your clear answer, regarding Chainfire3D.
I'm happy that, with your device, you have no problem to watch videos from Youtube or Gametrailers.com.
I tried to play videos from Gametrailers.com and (in my opinion), also in this case, we don't watch flash videos but optimized videos for mobile (you must consider, that we have the same hardware of cellulars).
I made this trial: I uninstalled flash player and (with browser set as: ipad or android), I was able to watch, the same, those videos (but their extensions were: .mp4 and not: .flv).
Instead, with flash player installed and browser set as: desktop, I was not able to play them correctly and (with my ATV1000) they resulted jerky (their extensions, in this case, were in flash - .flv).
This is my experience...so, if you may repeat these trials (I don't know if you have a firmware, with flash player inbuilt or not), then you will make me know.
(Have you made those trials that I suggested for youtube videos?)

After downloading, you will see four files within it:
update_spi_256.zip for ATV300 and ATV1000 256MB
update_spi_512.zip for ATV1000 512MB
update_spi_512F.zip for ATV1000 V2.2 512(you can find V2.2 512 information on the back of the box, if not, use above 256 or 512 SPI)
version.txt New Uboot version and recovery version.
If you are using ATV300 or ATV1000 with 256MB, change update_spi_256.zip name to update.zip, don’t unzip and copy it to SD card (only), then update it with either of two solutions as below:
1. Connect SD card to the box, and go to setting->privacy->update system->update box to update SPI, it will reboot after finished.
2. Connect SD card to the box, press the black button on the back of the ATV1000/the black button beside the ATV300, and re-plug power adapter, then you will see update screen, release the button at this time, it will reboot after finished. (if the screen shows update failed, this is because the box doesn’t find update.zip file, please re-plug SD card or try another one)
If you are using ATV1000 512MB, change update_spi_512.zip name to update.zip, don’t unzip, and copy it to SD card (only), then update it with either of two solutions as above.
If you are using ATV1000 V2.2 512, change update_spi_512F.zip name to update.zip, don’t unzip, and copy it to SD card (only), then update it with either of two solutions as above.
After updating, go to setting->about device, check Uboot version is V1.3.5( 20110906), recovery version is 1.2.9 (20110907), ignore Kernel version and build number.
Un saludo y volvere.

Hi folks, it's great to find this forum. I'm one of the retailer of this atv300 and atv1000. I have found many useful information here. I'm curious if any one of you guys are willing to help me to write a full review on this android tv. And I'm also planning to collect some useful apk and contributions for this android tv, you guys have any idea?
does this player support update for flash player 11?...anyway now with the release of android 4.0, maybe this will be available for this player. Any news? ...i`m looking forward to buy this player.
