vikidroid, even if u gonna do something similar now, its still going to be a good thing.
will try the latest version and see how it goes. how the bug for the screen has been fixed (1 cm from the top was replicated at the bottom).
bwt, any widget to turn off the device??
Is anyone having problems watching standard definition avi's with the Geniatech? I've noticed a strange effect on some files which I would imagine is what avirex was talking about here:
It looks like the video is playing in surges of about 1/2 second duration. It is mostly noticeable where the background is moving which would make me think it could be a lack of processing power, but these are not very high bit-rate files and besides, it only happens on certain ones. The files play fine on my PC by the way. I've tried a few different video players and upgraded my firmware from 20111102 to 20120111 but it's still the same. I have uploaded a short clip if anyone wants to download it and take a look.
I tried the test clip you provided, and had no problems playing it with MoboPlayer. Every avi I have tried has run smoothly with MoboPlayer. I am using the 20120111 firmware update.
I think it' not a hardware problem , because I found a remote that turn OFF and ON my ATV 1000. I have a HUMAX DIGI+C HD receiver and the remote of this , is capable to do this with the audio option button.
I can confirm your experience...
For the first time I could power off and on my ATV1000 using the mute button
on remote control of my AzBox Elite Hd (sat decoder).
Surely, it's just as you said...
(I bought my ATV1000 almost an year ago)
Hi gio965,
Power button works on my box ATV1000, I also bought it almost an year ago.
When push it, the box will stop. And you can install quick boot apk in Google Play to reboot it.
Great firmware...
Among various improvements, (root, centered cursor)
I noticed that issue on Network app has been solved,
the streaming is smoothly and audio/video is perfectly syncronized.
Web browsing and Youtube videos in HD are simply fantastic...
Video player stock improved :
-save changed settings in movie player
-adjusting subtitle position on the screen
Power button works.
N64oid, Nesoid... games work fine as like as Gingerbread !
I am going to upload some libs (joydev.ko, xpad.ko ) and app(gamepadIME) and write the guide for using gamepad (wireless gamepad Xbox 360) on ATV1000, but now I don't know how to begin, hope will post it soon.
Ps: Small stupid question, I couldn't find thanks button in forum, where does it locate ?

No you can't .. Quick Boot doesn't work ! I have to hold the POWER BUTTON on the box a while and it will shut down
my device getting 2192 points from antutu benchmark. gingerbreak 2.3.4 performance point of antutu was 1882.
Interesting. I decided to download antutu benchmark and try it on mine.
It didn't show up in market on my device so I downloaded it on my phone, then transferred and installed it.
I'm on 2.2 as I had to revert back to minimise audio/video sync issue.
I got a score of 2473.
CPU 935
GPU 985
RAM 260
I/O 293
It messed with the screen during a couple of the tests for me.

The above file is an Xvid type AVI file.I downloaded it and tried on my device with GB 2.3.4. I played it using the built-in player , ES Player and MX Player app & Mobo Player, all had the same result. It was NOT playing smoothly. There was a slight stutter. I played the same file on my Sybas chipset media player, it played smoothly. I then took a similar file (AVI file but Xvid variant) from my media player and then played on my ATV4000 , i had same result. The picture had a stutter. The motion had a jerkyness to it.
I now conclude that my ATV4000 cannot play Xvid files smoothly . It maybe a case of the Xvid codec missing or needs a newer version. This jerkyness may not be noticed by all.
** I uploaded more players such as CineXplayer, VPlayer and RockPlayer Lite to test Xvid playback. So far RockPlayer Lite plays Xvid the best. I have also read on Google that Android does not support Xvid natively.Being an ex-TV video editor it does make me want to find out why a video file does not work...

Yes it is interesting. i have never tried android 2.2 version on my device. may be ther could be overclock setting on this version firmware. cpu normally working on 800mhz speed. and i couldn't overclock speed to 1000mhz (1ghz) never.

Yes, I think you're right. I've looked at my files and the ones that have the effect worst are all Xvid, although some Divx5 files do also exhibit a slight jerkiness. I'll give RockPlayer a try. It's a little disappointing because I was hoping to use the Geniatech to play all my media files. Being realistic about it though, I suppose you can't expect a £70 piece of equipment to do everything perfectly.
@ all - there is a new sticky about android box! it conserns geniatech atv1000 and its "derivates". all topics are about android v2.x, and most viewed and discussed threads.

FAQ is a great idea, keep up the good work, thanks.
My ATV1000 was on ICS for a while and while I found it quite good, I needed to have the MyGiga TV dongle working so went back to gingerbread. I miss the nice graphics on ICS though.
Any idea when the TV dongle will be supported on ICS?

In a pdf file posted by gboijhpok, many months ago (Geniatech Enjoy TV),
it's explained that there are different hardware versions of ATV1000
and v1.5 (probably mine) has not power on/off function, using 2.4Ghz remote control.
I tried quick boot.apk and other apps on Market, but they didn't work
(flash reboot widget free.apk and reboot widget for root user.apk worked only
in reboot mode but not for power on/off).
Only mute button on an IR remote control (Azbox Elite Hd) works...
(our device has an IR receiver on the front side, for optional IR remote).

Hello guys,
First let me thank you so much for the hard-work you are putting in this.
I have a question about Google Play, under the latest firmware 0529 I always seem to get the Asian side of Google Play, even the currency is in $HK, I am not sure if there is a fix around that ..?
Apparently because its set to the Asian market I am missing some features of the US Google Play (movie and book rental), I have double checked the build.props and it says langauge=en and locale=US, double checked language settings and there is nothing unusual there, have even checked modded Google Play APKs that I know worked on my tablet and connects to the US side of things, but got the same results.

try to update attached patch to replace the area setting in play store(don't unzip, change the file name to update.img).
you have to clear all play store data before updating this patch:
go to setting->apps->all->find google play store and google services framework->clear user data, then, force stop them, after finished, update the patch as firmware upgrading steps.

Thanks gboijhpok, removing the mobile network code fixed the issue.

Root Checker from the Market says it is, but you also need superuser.apk and busybox.apk installed (both from the market) for it to perform correctly.
But why do we need busybox ? I thought its preloaded under /system/bin (or similar path).
I also noted that though I have superuser installed, no app so far asked for SU permissions (used Titanium backup without a problem).
Also noted that system is mount as R/W by default (not sure if thats also related).
Device(s): HTC Desire Phone, Ployer V5 MP5 Player, Enjoy AT1000 TV Box with T119 HiDTV dongle,
iMiTo 8" Table

You are correct in that su and busybox are loaded into system/xbin, however these are binaries and not apps.
I have had problems with another rooted devices because of no superuser.apk being loaded. I am not sure what the function of busybox.apk will be, but my other device keeps asking for it as well.
I have just taken delivery of an atv3000 plugged a 2tb WD green caviar hdd into it and plugged it into my old onkyo amp which goes to my old crt tv using the rca plugs, (yellow red and white ones). And well nothing, couldn't get any picture up on screen
I then tried using the digital connection, orange coaxial and optical output. and again nothing.
Do I need to change the output settings from the atv3000?
So next I tried to connect using my laptop, (windows 7), first via blueetooth, then via the USB. Sadly both methods again failed.
Can anyone walk me through this connection problem please?
PS there are a few changes to the 3000 from the pictures on the box/geniatech website.
- it's black not white, cosmetic I know
- to plug in the hdd in you open the top of the box
- there is an adapter to make installing 2.5" hdd's easier
- there is only one button now, ands its on the front

I think you might have to first plug it into a HDMI TV then set the resolution to 480i and after that it might display on screen via composite (yellow video cable).

To change the display from hdmi to rca you have to connect to a monitor using the hdmi port and the rca port. From display settings => output mode choose either 480cvbs or 575cvbs. once you select eith of these you have 20 seconds to switch over the the rca input and select ok. If you don't do this within 20 seconds it reverts back to the previous setting. Took me about 5 tries
As per Geniatech Sales, ATV1200 should be available early July and ATV1600 is still under development.
I just hope they can make a universal firmware for all Geniatech boxes with 512 or more RAM
Well it's just Android so it can on any of these boxes but the problem is how well it runs and unless Google optimize the Android 4.x OS better for 512MB were unlikely to see any major performance improvements unless Amlogic/Geniatech have an ace up their sleeve like portingCyanogenMod.
The Amlogic 8726-M1 is limited to 512MB RAM.
The 8726-M3 supports up to 1GB RAM.
The 8726-MX (dual core variant of M3) supports up to 2GB RAM.
So were probably going to see boxes with 1GB of RAM running Android 4 and it will be left at that.
hi lads. a bit offtopic: Raspberry Pi is out. its a small (credit card size) low power computer. the reason i am mentioning it is coz it is capable of playing 1080p videos (and playing games). it runs on linux os (on sd card) meaning u have no problems with updates. and it cost 25$. could it replace my geniatech box in futer??? Reason: fixed you tube link
userfriendly for price...) playing 1080p is serious usage/task (+programming/compiling), and u get a linux desktop, not android running with apps. i am not saying its better, its different, and when my box get bricked, i ll get the Pi, and i ll use the remote from the box)))
bottom line, i am glad there is an alternative for kids in poor countries who can not afford a desktop.
as for fw update_20120529_M1_4.0.zip, its working fine for me. video and audio synced, network icon working ok, surprisingly even the power button works (the box do not prompt for sleep/power off but just shuts down). the only thing to fix yet is the controls in the media player, which are zoomed and go outside the screen a bit. so far so good
I have purchased a ATV-1000 , currently running on android 2.3.4, However i have been quite dissapointed with the box so i presume i am missing something ?
Is there any CFW availible as i would like the box to be more like a network media server but still have the option to browse the internet install apps etc ?
Sky Go app and BBC IPlayer app dosent work and i am curious as to why ?
Basically i want a ice looking welcome screen with icons connecting me to my network to share all media , whilst you can view movies with es file explorer you cannot share music ?
There is no need to install the patch if you don't want your build.prop file replaced (assuming you have done your own customizations and edits on it).
Just edit build.prop in whatever way you like (manually or use one of many apps on the market).
And remove the following entries ...
Code:
gsm.operator.numeric
gsm.sim.operator.numeric
Clear you cache and reboot.
Best of luck,

Just thought I would give a big thumbs up to the support at Geniatech. After lots of emails I have been able to sort out most of my problems. Except one. Becasue I am using my old crt TV that doesn't support 720 or 1080 I won't be able to watch TV through it. I can record it and watch it at a later date because the playback does get downsized to a format my old tv can handle. Bugger, this means the ATV is not what I was wanting.
So does anyone in Australia want to buy a pretty much brand new ATV3000 with a MyGica T119 usb tv dongle?
