I'd love to be able to do that myself, but I don't think this will happen in a hurry since there is currently no custom recovery out there ala CWM or TWRP. I guess this is due to the lack of numbers of interested individuals as these boxes are still relatively uncommon. I have a Sumvision Cyclone Nano Slim+ and I believe that most of these boxes, maybe with some minor exceptions, come from Geniatech in China and are rebranded for people like Sumvsion and others.
The most up-to-date firmware is likely to come from Geniatech and you can find everything you need on their site. You just need to watch out for the correct CPU/chip combination to find your rebranded equivalent.
As already stated, we'd need an interested developer on say XDA to take on the challenge for a custom recovery then we could make Nandroid backups. To-date I justr can't find anything relating to it.
Also I have a feeling that it won't be long before there will be a CWM type recovery floating round as there is already one for the M3 box's.. Thanks to Matt over at the G-box forum.G-Box Official XBMC HQ | Topic: [UPDATED] Testers Needed
Also as a note I will post findings to xbmcandroid on the ATV1200 so that we dont get this thread off topic too much on the older box's.. So see you there if you have upgraded..
Also on a side note.. I have pulled my Wifi antenna off the ATV3000 and are looking at replacement of it when get time so that I can run some tests on it to if it is a cheap shit one and would make a difference to those that might want to do the same.. I have actually pulled a wifi router apart and grabbed the antenna off that.. but just haven't had time to solder the connections on and plug it back it to test. But I got a feeling this may help as its actually a plug and play type part.. and wouldn't surprise me that Geniatech to save money put on a cheap as chips one to reach the price points.

has anybody used the component out on a mygica atv1200? i swear the blue and green are reversed. i've tried 2 sets of cables. i hooked from mygica to computer and tv. both will not display until i put blue cable in green and green in blue on the mygica box.. and obviously when i do this it messes up the colors. has anyone else noticed this? i tried taking out the hdmi as well and got the same results. i'd love it if someone could confirm i'm either right, or i simply have a bad box. thanks. i've also tried with different firmwares. including the 3/26. i'm now on 1/15.
UPDATE... i'm now convinced that my box, or ALL mygica1200 boxes have a component output issue. i took my 2 sets of component cables and connected them from my cable box to my tv. both work flawlessly. so i eliminated the fact that i had faulty cables. i have a hauppage hd pvr hooked up to my computer for recording purposes. the pvr has component(rgb) input. this is why it's important that the mygica can output properly. which in my case, it doesn't. i took a screenshot of the app drawer. the facebook icon is orange/reddish. this is because i have to put blue and green in reversed in the mygica just to get it to display anything. if i connect rgb properly, i get no display at all. i got mine from nikingstore.com. should i email them? or mygica? i'm not sure i can return it. i'll have to check my order date and their return policy. but i would love if another user could confirm that it's just my box or all of them. if i use a geniatech firmware, in display settings i cannot change from yuv to cvbs. but in a firmware from mygica i can select either in the menu. both firmwares output rgb in reverse color. the home screen colors are flipped as in normally the homescreen is orange on the left and blue on the right. when i get it working with my computer, i see blue on the left and orange on the right. i'm either goin nuts or there is a real problem here.

Yes, it is a good product for xbmc with CVBS output.
I´m using ATV1000 on ICS 4.01 (update20120730), wich XMBC version will work best? I´ve tried to use the lastet one (frodo 12.1) and video is very laggy, audio issues and can´t turn on hw acceleration on Video Playback setup menu.
Hi all,
Need to share my story before popping a question.
So, I recently bought a "rebranded" ATV300 with Froyo 2.2 and 256 RAM. (And just received a replacement, because I "accidentaly" bricked it).
It was bricked because I jumped directly from my 2.2 to ICS without learning the steps on early pages.
Now, I've managed to updated it to 2.3.
Learning from both experience and by reading the "how to", my question is:
- Can I update it to ICS without bricking it again?
- Is the 20120730_M1_4.0 usable and stable to use on my 256 RAM ATV 300?

Yes, once you have 2.3, you should be able to upgrade to 4.0 with no problem.
However, I didn't have good performance from ICS when I upgraded on the ATV 1000.
Hi, I've got serious problems with Youtube, on my ATV1000 box.
I can't seek neither forward nor backwards.
This happens both in the youtube app and in the youtube website.
Anyone else experiences this?
Seems to happens with all versionshave tried practically all 2.3 and 4.0 updates that have come out...
I've updated to the ICS release looks fine and plays video ok HOWEVER the video is laggy and audio stutters for 720p and 1080p sometimes its ok for a few seconds but then the crackle comes back to the audio etc..
I've looked at the Movie player app and it is the SAME version on the M2 release that fixes these issues: Its a problem with the ICS M1 build not the app.
I've flipped back to GB release as it can play video without ANY issues.
The ICS release was otherwise very polished. I notice on the the latest M2 release even the bug with the ethernet MAC has been fixed!
Hope Giantech backport these fixes from the M2 release to the older M1 that the ATV1000 uses.
The M2 release on the Giantech web site will not work on the ATV1000 as the M2 is for the M2 chipset that replaced the older M1 that the ATV1000 is based on.

Reason: m2 release
Hi
I have ATV1000 M1 box with the latest geniatech ICS release.
I'd like to use XBMC but video is very laggy over SMB with XBMC's built in player.
There is an apk called SmbWrapper which created in order to stream SMB sources into http stream and it will exchange default player as well for any kind of mediaplayer installed on my system but..
It's just wont work on ATV 1000 :S
It's working on my HTC One....
Strange that I can play any kind of video with ATV1000's built in SMB browser together with the built in video player or with MXPlayer... 1080p videos are a bit laggy still but I can handle it via overcklocking with CPUMaster.
So.. question what is the ATV1000's default video player's apk name?
I'll give a try to modifiy the playercorefactory.xml in order to play smb with HW decoding...
thx for the help

If you look in the .IMG files that you flash as firmware (you can rename them as .ZIP and open them to see what's inside there is a VideoPlayer.apk file in the GB release these were a single file in the ICS release (ver 1.73 from memory I've gone back to GB as the ICS build was laggy for higher bit rate 720 video - Shame was fine other thant this. Gianantech fixed this bug on their M2 build, but not yet on the M1 build. Interestingly all the ICS VideoPlayer.apk are the same for M1 and M2 (I compared the VideoPlayer.apk and ODexed file) so its a tweak in the build not the app that fixes the bug.
How did you overclock?
Might be worth trying the older APK from GB on M1 ICS release?
Oh what I find works is to install ESFile Explorer (free app) and then click the network tab and scan for new servers, it should find your SMB servers. If not you can enter the IP address. Once connect to the SMB mount point get to the file and select it. If you click the file it will say not support etc.. Don't worry just "LONG PRESS" (hold the mouse button down over the files for 3 or 4 seconds) a new menu pops up select OPEN AS then select VIDEO then a pop will ask which player to use select the System player for the Gianatech and your can watch the SMB mounted file on the stock player!

Reason: SMB Stream
I have a M3 model, with 4.0.1 but I can't enter in recovery mode, my monitor displays a defintition error. How can i change the resolution of the recovery mode ?
Further you must be connected to the Internet when you install the zip file into XBMC.
Once you have installed XBMC, run it and navigate to “SYSTEM” and click on it to open.
Navigate to “Add-ons” and click on it.
Navigate to “Install from zip file” and click on it.
Select “External Storage” and navigate to where you installed “repository.googlecode.xbmc-catchuptv-au-1.3.zip”. Click on it and a few seconds later you will be advised of its installation – been “Enabled”.
Now select “Get Add-ons” and select “XBMC CatchupTV Au Add-ons”.
Select “Music Add-ons” and click on “AFL Radio” and “Install” to install it and the Add on will be downloaded and be “Enabled”
Back out one step and click on Video Add-ons.
Click on the ones you want to install and install them as for “AFL Radio” above.
There should be the following Add-ons:
ABC iView
ABC News 24
AFL Video
Channel Ten Catchup TV
NRL Video
Plus7
SBS Catchup TV
When they are all “Enabled” back out to the first screen and navigate to “Videos”.
Select “Add-ons” and the Add-on you want.
Simply follow the menus to what you want.
There are a lot of XBMC Add-ons available, here is a start:

Hi Enviro, its been awhile since I have been on the forum, but moving from plex to more xbmc and was curious if you were suffering from any video lag on your version. I am on ICS 4.0.3 build 20120730 and debating an update for xbmc and hopefully a smoother running netflix. Also if you have the links to those files that would be awesome. Oddly the only XBMC apks Ive been able to get running are the futeko ones. Trouble is its very buggy where only certain addons work. Hope you can help.
Yes there is some video lag on the ATV 1000 clones but very little if any on my MX1 dual core Android TV dongle.
I really only posted this because there were people looking for ABC (Australia) Catchup TV.
As for apks, I don't run then from XBMC yet, that's my next project, when I get my MX1 back from repairs - dodgy micro USB sockets.
No worries, I am using the ATV1000 still and wanted to keep it in good use. Looks like I got XBMC working with the futeko download and no lag. Just a shame all the addons other than sportdevil work properly. Ohh well. In case anyone gets stuck and stumble upon this conversation. Google amp1000 xbmc and dl that imgupdate with the netflix update and the futeko xbmc. XBMC is really fast and I have gotten channel 1 icefilms running without problems. Hope it helps someone
Hi guys anyone been able to get XBMC on the Geniatech ATV1000 working with the 1channel, icefilms and mainly sportsdevil addons working? If so can you point me in the directions of your build. I am on ICS 4.0.3 build 20120730
My ATV1000 has been good to me, but If I can get XBMC with the addons, plex and netflix I could transform the kids room without buying something else I have all addons except sportsdevil working it just hangs at 87% then crashes any help would be greatly appreciative. Ohh the only XBMC that seems to work is the futeko xbmc on mine.
Cheers
Update: Answered my own question on a last ditch effort, sportsdevil works although a bit of a lag, but you can watch a game if you really needed to. I used the Pivos xbmc apk http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=847
