thanks. Where did you get a new firmware from? It would be nice if you can root this box. Would like to know improvements gained from the new firmware.

The first thing I would do after root is to adjust the output scale from 160 to 240.

I got the G-BOX Rockchip too.
So far the performance is good.

One limitation, when I watching a movie, suddenly i want to pause it and asnwer phone call, but I need to press a lots in order to pause it.
Anyway to customize a remote control key to pause/resume movie?

It is the same identical boxes. I did restore the default settings. in your browser.
I contacted the supplier, told me to switch browsers, but does not work the same.
The only problem is the browser, everything else works. I do not understand why, everything works but the browser vendor no.Al I asked said that the update I will send the file.
How do I factory setting?

Hi, I have also just bought this box, the exactly same one from the very first post. I did find somewhere that the firmware can be update with a file update.zip in the sd card but I don't know exactly how to do it. I will try to find this information again and point to that direction. I tried to use the google remote control app to control this box from my mobile and it didn't work, the error message was "Google TV Box couldn't be found on your Wifi nextwork".

Hi...the GoogleTV app is for official GoogleTV products. This G-Box is not GoogleTV, it is Android TV. So the app won't work with this box.

I am not an Android expert but I do try lots of things with android phones, new firmwares, os, etc... and I know that the firmware has to support the hardware on which you are installing it so in theory installing Honeycomb on this device should work, right? right? Please post your thoughts.

Hi Gus,

As you pointed out, the firmware has to support the hardware. So it will not work with G-Box

Hi all,
I received updates from the manufacturer (EC Technology Shenzhen), those who want to update the firmware, you have attached two files, copy both the sdcard in the main directory, start the G-box, then insert the SD card , the device recognizes the update and ask for confirmation, if all goes well after about 10 minutes update is ready, install and keyboard attached, and the settings as default pass it,
This update resolve some bugs, has several applications in addition, is still working on it (I asked a driver for webcam for use with Skype)
for the moment can not be root filesystem is different.

now my device lose wifi conection after few minutes working. If i go to reconnect from the settings the wifi conection give me Error and is impossible to activate.

with a logitech e3500 video it's ok (it's great for a usb webcam))

Hi Fellows!

Does everything work normally after rooting?
Im thinking of Wi-Fi, and Android market..

I have a small problem also..When i install a launcher to change the boring layout, the Wi-Fi stops to work, and i cant turn it on again..
When i do factory reset it all works normally..The problem is that i cant use a launcher.. And how does your bluetooth connection work?
I cant send anything to my phone for instance..It says that it is establishing the connecton for a while, and then nothing happens..The message dissapears from the screen and nothing..Have you guys tried the funktion?

Alex102 i have the same problem with the wifi, it stops after moments and its impossible to reconect it again. Did you solve that problem. With factory reset?

Hi, thank you orefie. I used the update.img that you posted and it is now rooted.

I will try to keep the english as simple as possible so everybody can understand it.

My findings after I rooted the device are:

1 - I can't mount the system folder as r/w which means I can't delete the bloatware and unwanted apps. I don't want facebook, tweeter, hi msn, and some other apps. I want the box initially exclusively to play tv/movies content. I tried mounting the system as r/w with several apps (es file manager, file manager, root manager, a specific one called system mount or something like that), none of them will mount the system as r/w.

2 - The system is still legging. I am trying to find a honeycomb or ics build for rockchip 2918 but so far nothing.

At the moment I control my box with a wireless mouse and keyboard with a wireless dongle, they work seamlessly. My wifi works great too, I also tried connecting the box via rj45 (the blue cable) and it worked exactly the same way as per via wifi.

I checked the system information with the system info app from the market and based on the list provided the cpu is v7, and the architecture is 7 which makes me believe that they are not selling us the rockchip A8, they are selling the rockchip A7, which if it is true is really sad but the speed is about 1-1.2ghz. Please anyone could look further into this? I have already asked my supplier yesterday, I hope he comes back to me with a good answer for that.

I will try to unpack the firmware image that I am testing to check what I can do with it. I am not to concerned about bricking the device anymore, if it happens, it happens.

I forgot to say a main problem that I've found and it is the one affecting the usability of this box the most.

I've been trying to stream videos from my home network either wirelessly or wired and every time the box is buffering a film, either it does not finish or it finishes but the video does not play well. I tried few different streaming apps, the lastest one I am trying is Emit on the market (cuz it is free) but I did pay for 'vlc direct pro' and had the same problem. it says 'Buffering...' and after few minutes it says 'Something went wrong.'.

BTW The same video plays perfectly from the sd card.

Could you guys do some test around this as well? I believe this is a major.

Hi there, it performs really well if the video is on the sd card. I am still having problems to stream videos from my home network but I am working on it to find the source of the problem.

On a side note, last night I installed titanium backup and "removed" the bloatware, the bloatware didn't disappear but they are greyed out on titanium backup and the performance on the menu of the g-box seems better.

How big are the videos you tested? more than 10GB?

God no! The biggest one I tested is 1.5gb.

I've tried to connect one, but doesn't work. And although I bought the device as "Bluetooth included", it doesn't have. I'm very interested in bluetooth in this device.

when i buy the device, the vendor tells me the bluetooth function was disabled beacouse problems whit the system. i think there is no implemented drivers whith this firmware. I don't know if is possible or easy to put in a update.img

and yes, i have the same problem, when connect a bt dongle the device not react...
