My findings on working with Measy X7 and trying firmware from other boxes.
1. Geniatech firmware - Cannot be used since the MTD partitioning naming is different.
2. MBX tagged firmware seems most compatible. However with all of the firmware combinations I have tried, you loose the WiFi capability. i.e Measy was supporting RTL819x USB adaptors. Other have either a built in or even if they support other it is the Realtek (or is is Ralink) 2870 chipset.
The upgrade which worked well for me was the Sumvision firmware (however no Wifi support). It comes with market working, saving screen position, resolution, two launches the Measy type and the Gingerbread native. Dont recall if the Root is built it or not now. However it should be easy enough to do via a custom about 2-3 MB update.zip package.
It seems that the Sumvision firmware too would work here. Only just need to tweak the updater-script to bypass the checks, replace remote.conf and repackage and sign and run upgrade using the factory_update_param.aml method.
Choose the Cyclone Android media center firmware and not the nano firmware. The nano seems to an oem of Geniatech.
NOTE: Upgrading to ICS firmware does not seem to be successful in any form.
For this I was using the M6 ICS firmware from http://www.refeedigital.com/page/download.html.
The M6 upgrade download however has a corrupted refee1210.zip inside the rar file.
So I could not try out the proper way of M6 v2.2.1 -> M6 v2.3.4 -> M6 ICS
What I tried out was Sumvision 1.0 -> Sumvision 1.1 -> M6 ICS which failed

Reason: Add reference to Refeedigital M6 firmware

excelent news, that is not difficult to doit im doing a similar update on ainol / ainovo paladin tablet rom.
also you may be able to update the wifi driver to make it start with the other rom.
Thought about getting from the Measy v1110 update but they have not done it modularly. It seems have been built into the kernel.
What need to find out is 8192cu.ko and a compatible kernel (boot.img???) that goes with it and then have to package. Plus there should be a firmware (xxxx.dat) file also.
This you can find plenty for 2870 chipset but not for 8192 chipset
@hansmaiser. Could you please post here your MTD partition table layout.
If you have ssh / terminal access the command to execute is cat /proc/mtd
Is your box a Measy X7 or someother make ..

what a pitty.... thre may be other way to load a wifi driver. thought a script. or something like that.
The few ICS updates available definitely much smoother experience and faster responsiveness. Unfortunately I was unable to get Ethernet / WiFi up in ICS so had to rollback to 2.3.4 where atleast Ethernet was working.
Geniatech firmware I am a dead end since it is using a different mtd setup. The naming of the partitions are different. If someone reading this can help me with the contents of /proc/mtd from a ATV1000 I can probably put in effort to reformat the nand and see if the GeniaTech firmware can be used.

Hi blrdude39, here is mtd file from my ATV1000: Attachment 31314
I hope it can be useful.

The Following User Says Thank You to gio965 For This Useful Post:
Please do not try to upgrade / modify your Measy X7 with GeniaTech firmware. I tried it and now my box the light glows but I dont get any display on the TV screen.
So please only work with the firmware I had listed in an earlier post with a PDF attachment. i,e the ones that say board as m1ref or c03ref. With those I have flashed in various orders and combinations and never managed to brick the box. It has always been able to recover.
Seems like the the UART method is the only way to go now.
I am good with Linux, some basic electronics to solder cables and such and have with me a Nokia Serial to USB cable. But no where can I find the schematic or image to figure out where on the circuit board I can find the UART pins. Does anyone have contacts at Measy.com to get this piece of information.

Hi blrdude39, what's happened?
Why have you tried this dangerous test?
I hope you can solve...
LOL. Must say I was either out of my mind or just in a too much experimenting mood.
In order to try out the geniatech firmware I decided that first I would have to do a spi upgrade for which I prepared the update package using the 20110907SPI.zip from Geniatech and removed the timestamp and stvm3 check on it. Pointed to use the 512MB related files. Resigned the package and did the upgrade.
Once it got to the reboot stage, after that I did note get any display on the HDMI output. So checked with the regular TV output cable no luck there too.
My guess is either the SPI is not compatible or the startup settings in the env_512 files is using some setting that causes the video out to be messed up.
So no I cannot figure out what is happening since there is no video output visible.
So unless my email to Measy yields some results in the form of getting schematics or where to connect a UART cable I am stuck. The dealer in India where I bought this box does not have servicing facility where they can reflash the device. I would have to send it back to China which would work out too expensive.
or pay almost double around USD 150 and get the rebranded GeniaTech ATV1000 in India from Mobility Makes A Difference . This one comes with the Fly mouse (that I already have) and 4GB ram insteam of 2 GB ram.
I have this box (dx.com/android-full-hd-1080p-media-player-w-usb-sd-hdmi-rj45-ports-black-2-x-aaa-102992), currently running 2.3.4. It shows as a MBX c03ref, and I was thinking to upgrade it to ICS 4.0.3, using the M6 firmware. Could you please guide me through the lashing/modification steps ?
Btw. sorry for your broken Measy. Any news about it ?

Well, I need flash 11 and understood that in ICS 4.0 it is HW accelerated, while on my box with 2.3.4 it is not. Pls. let me know if you are aware about HW-accelerated flash tricks/tips etc.

dont knwo you will need to check in adobe site and then let us know.
@tatubias: On my 2.3.4 flags 10.2 is HW-accelerated while 11.xx is not. From what I read/understand, 11 should be accelerated in ICS 4.0. Anyways, I just wanted to see how it looks, etc.

by the moment no one was able ton install 4.0.x to the x7 device.

Yes, I understand that, but blrdude39 was very close... He wanted to attempt the ICS firmware from M6, but had to abandon it because of a corrupted file. I managed to obtain the whole/correct ICS M6 firmware, so I thought this may be a good starting point for picking it up from where blrdude39 left it.

Hi tatubias. I appreciate you job. There is another thread that explain and develop an Android v4.0x firmware for the same ARM cortex SoC, but there is a difference on board type.
The difference is that the firmware look for a "c03ref" board, and Measy X7 have an "m1ref" Board. I don't know if there is another restriction to install this firmware.
My intention , if you agree, to exchange your experience and join effort with stane1983 . This will be appreciate for the whole measy x7 owners community.
If you agree, i will post this on the other thread to promote synergy.
Sorry about my English.

Thank you very much for the invitation, i dont have any longer the palyer so im not doing more research on it. now im using a tablet with android 4.0.3 as a media player withthe HD connected to it.
it is not the best way to do it but it works as expected and also i have the option to use a tablet. for 50 to 70 usd less.
I have a Measy X7 2.3.4 Gingerbread box and I would like to know how you recommend I go about rooting this device. I cannot live with out root access.
root the device if you want, the only benefit of rooting is that you can install some apps that you can not install if the device is not rooted. do some tweeking. and not much more.
allays try to get the original rom before rooting or playing around because you can brick it.
Hello, i got new replacement from measy distributor since my X7 got rippped , it was sent to measy at china but they couldnot repair it.
they sent X5 3D hd mediaplayer, it working fine. it has dual boot Linux and android

All I'm looking at doing is trying to increase the processor speed and editing the device name so I can get more apps from the app store. Also I like having total access to device to make small tweaks. A Temporary rooting method would be great so that I can make the mods needed and return to locked so the kids can screw it up. Do you know of a good app that will give me temporary root access to make permanent changes? I'm not planning on playing with the ROM or any of that jazz because the OS seams solid and functions well. This won't be my first rooted device so I'm not worrying about bricking.

I have read you hole form top to bottom. 4zroot is for Android 2.2 it said not Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. I never ask questions with out reading everything. Been reading you form for weeks trying to get the answers before I posted the first post.

there are other applications like superoneclick root or unlockroot or universal gb root or any other soft like that.

Sir Nag o-off or sleep ung unit ko pag naka turn off na ung TV or LED TV connected via HDMI anu maganda gawin.
@robustnet i dont undestand your question. if you turn off the tv. the media players it stills on. so you can put it to down load a file or do what do you need. ( i had andorid 2.2 installed in my device). you can turn off the mediaplayer with the remote controll.

@Tatubias
sir this is how it goes.
measy x7 and TV is turned on downloading torrent file thru atorrent.
When I turned off the TV only then I turned it on again, measy is in booting stage even though I did not turned it off. Then back to desktop. All previous application running is not there anymore.
As if it was resetting, every time I turned off the TV and turned it on again.
So I cannot download if TV is off.
I use HDMI connection.
Sir what connection are you using AV or HDMI?
Last edited by robustnet; July 17th, 2012 at 08:33 AM.
pag off ko ng TV parang nag o-off or sleep din ung measy x7, nag off ung wifi, mga naka bukas na application nag o-off din maski naka on ung ilaw ng measy.
Pag bukas ulit ng tv nag bo-booting ulit ung measy. Then balik ulit sa desktop nya. Pero wala na ung mga nakabukas na application.
So di ako maka download ng torrent kasi nawawala sya pag off ng tv.
My connection is thru HDMI
please ask the questions in english. i dont know philipino.
witch version of android do you have installed. when i did had 2.2 installed i did never got any issue.
you can try installing this application. Wake Lock - PowerManager
with this application you will be able to make the screen never goes off and wifi keeps alive.
test it.
also you can try going into the settings into the development menu there it is an option that says allways On when plugged or something like that. please check that option.

I haven't been able to connect Measy to Computer with ADB. Was wandering if there was someone who knows how to accomplish this. I have USB Debugging Checked but it only detect the Measy as a External Hard Drive. Still working on rooting it.

Thanks for you help!
you can try using wifiadb application. it may show you something.
I bought an X7 with Android 2.3.4. I use Ethernet instead of WiFI.
I've read all post in this thread, but I can't find any solution for my problems:
1. Can't access to device from my PC (Win7). The device's IP is visible and PING. Can't reach via browser as well.
2. If I can see well I haven't write permission to my internal HDD (1,5TB Samsung). Anything I want to copy to it, returns with an error message. The file moving process reach 100% but in the writing phase there is an error message.

1 - are you trying to do this thought Ethernet / wifi?
if yes. the device does not bring any application to share the hard drive.
you need to root the device and install samba server application. when i did used long time ago only support wifi sharing.
2 - if you want to connect the hd to your pc you need to use the lateral connector the Blue one. and pluggit to you usb port of the pc.
1. I use component connection not HDMI. (my hdmi connection resets the device every reconnection of the TV input or when I turn off the TV and back on.) So I get only low resolution in native display and it has a color sync issues but i manage to solve it by going to display output choosing any resolution and when it ask you to reset just click no.
2. I use ghost commander with samba plugin( I can access now my pc shared thru measy x7. But cannot access device via pc coz no sharing features.)
3. My device is not yet rooted so I cannot have samba server.
4. I have 2TB Samsung Installed and it has minimal heat, plus I installed usb fan at the bottom of the device. So I'm running TTorrent 23hrs a day now with no heat issues. I have partition my Hd into three, all extended logical drive.
5. Video play back is good, torrent downloading is good, my only problem when accessing hd folders sometimes it lags specially if the folder has many files. Sometimes I clear data of the media storage and it eliminates lag but it comes again when media storage is big.
6.Regarding not shutting down properly. I just exit all programs that uses the Hd so if i turned off measy x7 it wont have a problem with the hard disk.
7. Programs I used:
a. ghost commander with samba plugin
b. TTorrent
c. go chat for Facebook
d. flash player
e. perfect viewer
f. meridian mp3 player (can use folder selection)
8. I use to have Google play but i don't use it anymore, coz all programs suddenly not compatible any more. I use other site.
9. The device sometimes hang. specially if running many application. I can live with that.
10. So far the device meets all my purpose and requirements. The question now on my mind is how long is it going to last.
