I've created an app that allows you to use your Android device as a remote control for Google TV. It is called "Able Remote" and has several features in addition to the ones provided by the Google TV Remote app:
Touch navigation and touch play controls
Beam the photos and videos on your Android device to Google TV
Share web pages with the TV
Launch popular apps
View SMS and Caller ID notifications on your TV
Voice commands to change channels, launch apps and do searches
Great review from Gnarl’d about Able Remote: "It offers greatly improved functionality over Google TV Remote and is so intuitive that I rarely have to glance down at my phone when using Able Remote…rating 4 out of 5"
You can also search the Market app on Google TV for: "Able Remote for Google TV"

Sorry, but the app is only available through the market. You should report the issue you are experiencing with the market with the hardware vendor of your Google TV.

IT IS NEITHER Logitech Revue or Sony Google TV .
it is a non branded device
Only the official Google TV devices are currently supported. You need to have the 3.1 Honeycomb Google TV software updates from either Logitech or Sony.
We are currently testing a major new feature that will allow users to change any of the device or app buttons in Able Remote.
If you want to change the layout of the buttons on each screen or if you want direct access to your favorite app, then the new edit feature will be for you. We hope to release this soon as a paid feature using in-app billing. All of the existing features of Able Remote will remain free.
Able Remote 2.0 for Google TV has been released in the Android Market.
Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote!
Able Remote 2.0 includes several new features:
- Edit device and app buttons (paid feature: $0.99)
- Support repeat keys for arrow navigation
- Support forwarding all Android notifications
- User configurable settings
- Better phone number matching for Caller ID
- Updated graphics
Google appears to be rolling out a fix for their in-app billing issues. Google has released a new version of their Market app today (version 3.4.4). If you don't have that version, the launch the Market app, go to My Apps and then get out of the Market app. That seems to trigger an update within a few minutes.
Able Remote 2.0.2 includes several new features:
- Edit mode now allows any button to be placed on any panel
- New Home and Back gestures (Home=arch forward, Back=arch backwards)
- Updated graphics
- Bug fix for playback interruptions
Able Remote 2.0.3 includes several new features:
- Swipe right/left to navigate between the button panels
- Add buttons for your favorite TV channels
- Name your Google TV
The button at the bottom of the Able Remote screen no longer controls both the button panels and the touch controls. To navigate between the button panels, swipe right or left across the button panels. To navigate between the touch controls, tap the button at the bottom of the screen.
We've received requests from Able Remote users to support some kind of gaming view that would include common navigation actions and useful buttons for playing games on Google TV.
We have some ideas on what this might look like including support for landscape mode and having the navigation controls on both the left and right side of the screen.
Also, Able Remote already supports various gestures that could be reused in the gaming view: Gestures | Able Remote
We would like to hear from any gamers about their ideas on what they would like to see in such a view. Please give us your feedback and we will consider all of your ideas for an upcoming Able Remote release.
We've been asked by several users to add automation support in Able Remote. The automation would automatically do several tasks under certain conditions.
We are considering adding a simple mechanism that a user can configure which would includes all of these options:
1. Automatically enabling WiFi when you get home,
2. Switching on Google TV,
3. Launching an app, or
4. Changing to a specific channel.
We would like to get feedback from users about this mechanism and any other ideas they might have that could be added to the automation feature.
Able Remote 2.0.5 includes several new features:
- Macros (requires paid edit buttons feature)
- New buttons: volume up, volume down, keyboard, devices, macros
- Stopped using Chrome to display photos shares
- Support 1080p photo viewing
Macros allow you to combine device, app and channel actions. For example, you can create a macro that will power up several of your devices at the same time.
Able Remote 2.0.6 includes several new features:
- Added fourth button panel
- The user interface color can be changed
- Arduino home automation (experimental)
Able Remote can now control devices attached to Arduino (Arduino - HomePage) microcontrollers which run the CIAO (https://github.com/colagrosso/ciao) protocol. This feature is still experimental and might change in a future release. You have to enable this feature in Menu/Settings. Able Remote will then automatically detect any actions supported. You can then use the Menu/Edit Buttons option to add a button for that action.

The button at the bottom of the screen used to navigate between the touch panels now support swipe gestures. Swipe left or right to navigate between the touch panels.
The new number pad needs to be enabled in the app settings screen. You can use the number pad to change the channels on your TV.

Able Remote 2.0.8 includes:
- Various user interface improvements
- Fixed minimum Android version setting to 2.2
- Made number pad free feature
- Improved dimming power down
- Support for photo rotation EXIF value
Since we started developing the Able Remote app, we have carefully considered user feedback. We have used this feedback to prioritize the features for each version of the app. We have a list of feature requests and we also have our own ideas for improving Able Remote and expanding its capabilities.
Since we are getting some publicity at the moment, we thought it would be a good opportunity to reach out to all our users and ask them for their wish list of features for Able Remote. Please email us at feedback@ableremote.com with your ideas. Get your ideas to us before Tuesday.
Able Remote 2.1.0 includes:
- Edit feature device buttons are labeled
- Caller ID and SMS notifications display contact photo
- Macros added spotlight app support
- New buttons: previous, next, TV power
We have seen a number of comments from users who mistakenly think there are remote control features missing from Able Remote. We have decided to release this version with labeled buttons in the Menu/Edit buttons screen to make it clear what each icon means.
We have also changed the way Caller ID and SMS notifications are displayed to users. If there is a photo in your contacts for the incoming call, then Able Remote will display that on your TV. Note that the new notification mechanism does not add to the notification history on your TV; you can enable the previous kind of notification in the app Settings.
I updated to the newest version but the contact photo for caller I'd just shows a blue drawn person. All my photos are synced thru gmail. Everything works great. Any suggestions to fix this thanks

If you have a photo stored on the phone for a contact, that should always appear. However, due to differences between the contacts/address books from the various Android manufacturers, you might not see photos for all of your contacts if they are synced from online services.
We have reports from users who do see contact photos synced from Gmail, and we have reports from others who dont.
Able Remote 2.1.1 includes:
- Performance improvements
- New buttons: red, green, yellow, blue, blank
- Improved support for local channels for voice commands
- Macros support device buttons
From 2.1.1 we are giving users an opportunity to try out the Edit Feature for 7 days. At the end of the trial period, users can purchase the Edit Feature for $0.99 or continue to use the free version of the app which is a fully functional Google TV remote.
Able Remote 2.1.4 includes:
- Setting for photo slideshow delays
- Photo slideshow navigation with playback keys
- Number pad enabled by default
- Ads for users who don't buy the Edit Feature after the trial period
Photo slideshows can now be paused and you can manually navigate between photos using the playback touch control.
any chance a pared down version that only does notifications? my phone is paired to a bluetooth system in another room so using as a remote is out but i would love the notification part of the app.

Able Remote uses your WiFi network to send commands to a Google TV device; it does not use bluetooth.

Able Remote 2.1.5 includes:
- Clock, weather and RSS widgets
You can now launch overlay widgets with a button. Configure the widgets on your mobile device and then add the new widgets button to your button layout. Press the widget button and you can see the clock, weather and your favorite RSS feed anywhere on Google TV. The weather widget supports weather alerts.
For technical reasons, standard Android widgets cannot be supported for this overlay.

Able Remote 2.1.7 includes:
- Improved alerts layout for weather widget
- Improved error handling for RSS widget
- Developer API's
We now allow developers to create custom buttons for their Google TV apps and allow mobile developers to invoke the Able Remote sharing features: http://ableremote.com/developers
The ultimate Google TV remote. Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote. A Google TV featured app!
Able Remote 2.1.8 includes:
- Removed ads from free version
- G+ trending feature
- Improved weather widget alerts
- Landscape support
There is a new Trending button which displays trending topics from Google+ posts. It is based on the Google+ API which is still in beta so this feature should be considered experimental. Since the API does not provide the list of trending terms, the Google search engine trending keywords are used for now.
Many users have asked for landscape support for their tablets. You can now enable that using Menu/Settings/Screen Orientation within Able Remote. We are reusing the current design. We hope to bring a different user interface in the future that will make better use of the bigger screen space.

Able Remote 2.2.1 includes:
- Voice commands for playing Google Music
- Android widget to control Google TV Play Music
- Dash character for number pad for local channels
A new voice command has been added to launch Google's Play Music app on Google TV. To launch the app and start playing music, click on the voice command button and say "play". To start playing a particular track say "play" and the track name, for example "play firework". The track name is matched by the Google Play Music app and can be strict and might not always match your track. Also, if a track is matched it will play automatically, but if a playlist or album is matched it will only be selected due to technical limitations with the API.
There is also a new Android widget for your mobile device to remotely control the Google Play Music app on your Google TV. On your mobile device, press 'Menu/Add/Widgets'. Select 'Able Remote Play Music' from the list of widgets. You will be prompted to select which Google TV to control. The widget has a button to play or pause the music and another button to select the next track. The current track and artist is displayed on the widget. You can configure multiple widgets, each for a different Google TV.

Able Remote 2.2.2 includes:
- Favorite channels
- Double-click volume adjustment
- Buttons for selecting touch panels
- Replaced widgets feature with weather button
- Improved network support for Google Play Music widget
Users have requested the ability to configure a list of favorite channels and be able to jump between those quickly. In this release we have added a new button at the bottom of the screen which allows users to configure up to 21 favorite TV channels. Clicking on an empty space will allow you to select your favorite channel. Clicking on a configured channel will make your TV change to that channel.
When you jump from live TV to Google Play Music or YouTube, there is usually a big jump in the volume which forces you to quickly adjust the volume level. In this release we have added a feature which can be enabled in Menu/Settings to quickly adjust the volume. Simply double-click on the physical volume buttons and the volume will quickly adjust by the configured amount.
Users have requested a faster way to jump between the various touch panels. In this release we have added buttons for each touch panel which allows you to jump to any of the touch panel directly.
Based on analytics, users are mostly using the weather and clock widgets. We have decided to remove our proprietary widget feature and replace it with a weather button that will display the weather and clock as an overlay.

Able Remote 2.2.3 includes:
- Bug fix for some of the edit buttons.
- Forward notifications when Able Remote isn't the foreground app.
- Switch button to quickly switch between Google TV's.
This release includes a fix for a bug that was introduced in 2.2.2 which affects some of the buttons in the Edit Feature.
From this release you can forward notifications to Google TV even when Able Remote isn't the foreground app. Enable this using 'Menu/Settings/Always Forward Notifications' . You can also specify which Google TV devices should receive the notifications.
This release also has a new button that allows you to quickly switch between Google TV devices that have previously been found on your network.
