Is There Good Unlock App To Replace Pressing Power Button?

Hey guys I have been searching for an app to replace the need to press the power button up top in order to get the screen activated so that I can start using my phone once the screen powers off.


I am hoping there is some kind of app that can do this just by changing the way the phone is held like if its accellerometer changes by a certain number of degrees or something like that.

This is one of my peeves. I would like to be able to unlock the phone with my thumb like my 3gs. Instead I have to change my grip.

I would like the ability to press any of the bottom keys to bring up the unlock screen, then I could swipe. I know they are afraid that it will constantly be hit in the pocket, turning on the lit screen and using battery, but that is a small price to pay for not having to find that little button on top.

I have been searching for this too. Setting an unlock pattern for the home screen would solve the problem of calls from the pocket. This needs to be updated.

Yea and have the screen be on a 10 second timer, so if it was an accident then it just goes off in 10 seconds not wasting much battery at all.

Maybe its out there and we just are not looking hard enough. It seems like many people would want something like this.

Yea this I use and can do it well on my pattern with one hand its just that stupid power button up top that is hounding me

Yeah, wasn't meant to be a solution for your issue, just the guy who was asking for a "password".

I usually use my left hand to unlock the phone, so an app to use the camera button would be awesome. Click it with my pinky, unlock with the thumb.

Still, it's not too bad now, either. I just gotta reach my pointer finger up a little to hit the unlock button.

My hand isn't used to reaching out to hit the power button yet! LOL. Yeah I know about the patern setting; it was cool for couple of days but I rather just enter a pass code AND have a limitted attempt before it goes to wipe mode.

I vote for not hitting the power button too. I am doing some google searches and will post if I find a solution.

Guys -- the 'app' you're hankering for will never exist because it's a technical limitation of the touchscreen.

The electronics that sense touch on the capacitive-touchscreen needs power in order to work (as does the backlight of the LCD) -- that's a huge no no for long standby battery life. That's why a PHYSICAL switch is necessary -- pressing the switch physically causes an interrupt to the processor to wake it out of slumber, without drawing down the battery when not pressed.

Somebody CAN write an app that will prevent the phone from ever going to sleep/suspend, but good luck with getting a day's worth of usage out of the phone!

wypoon couldn't someone in theory write an app that woke the phone up when the phone was shook or turned a certain way though? i personally don't mind unlocking it and stuff but this seems feasible.

Ditto. And I like Flyscreen, now that I've tried it out. A keeper.

I use ScreenModeWidget - and I keep it in AwakeStay mode. Allows my screen to go off, and clicking any physical button (I use camera button) brings the screen back up.

i found that if i just slide the keypad open a hair and close it it works like the power button and easier than the button on top... hope this helps

im not gonna say you are wrong cause i don't have all the facts, but in regards to you saying nothing can execute while it's locked is wrong. just start to load a webpage and then hit the lock button. wait 10 seconds......turn it back on and bam the page has continued to load while it was off.

You are correct -- an application can elect to run as a background service. When this happens, the clock to the CPU is not stalled, even though the LCD may be turned off. The MP3 application works like that. Downside is increased power consumption while the background service is continually being serviced.

What are you even talking about. You aren't making much sense sorry. Why do I care how much battery life I have when I work from home and am at my desk 12 hours a day, next to my charger?

As you say "interrupt the processor", I want to do just that, but without having to annoyingly touch this top button.

There should be default options for this even.
