Help What is the proper % of awake time vs up time you should see?

No

It varies too much on how much you use it. IF you use it half of the time, then 50%, a quarter, 25% ;)

I know you weren't looking for that smarta$$ answer, but the truth is that everyone uses their phone differently. The more you use it, the higher the awake time will be. Pretty huge variation from one to the next.

Oh no I understand that Liquoredolce but what if the phone is on (yet screen is off) for 5 hours while you sleep.

Now you are never going to get 5 hours up time and 0 awake because there are little things going on behind the scenes.

For instance I had my screen off for about 10+ hours overnight while I slept (used it for about 30-45 minutes before that) and my up time in the morning was around 11 hours and my awake time about 2, so is that a good percent?

Pretty much yeah. If the screen is off, chances are your awake time won't budge. There are always examples, for instance I recently had an app that kept my phone awake, even while the screen was off, but once I uninstalled it I left the phone inactive (screen off but phone on) for about an hour, and the only time the screen was on was when I was checking settings, etc. and my awake time was around 5 minutes.

Unless you have an app that's specifically keeping your phone awake (which most apps should NOT do because it will kill your battery) your awake time is directly correlated with how long the screen is on for.

But what about while using certain widgets like SportsTap to update sports scores or a Feedr to update the news? Don't they continue to update even when the screen is off?

yes stuff updates in the background. but it doesnt take more than 1 minute to send a data request pull in the new data and the update the info and go back to sleep. so unless you are doing updates every 5 minutes you shouldnt have a huge awake time because of these

You must have the 2150 battery with those numbers.

I have the Seidio 1750 with Up time 19:50 and Awake time 4:55 with the Battery level just in the red. Usage no calls, checked about 5 emails, and sent and received/sent 40 texts. I'm sure if I had 10:00 awake time my battery would be dead.

I don't want to start another thread on this so hopefully it will get a read or two.

I don't do all that much with apps. I have the usual suspects, Pandora, Radio Time, Facebook, Dolphin HD, Call log Pro,Timeriffic, and Handcent. I swap batteries in the morning and run about 10 hours up time and perhaps 1 hour awake, depending on the amount of phone calls I get. But... here's the but, every once in a while the awake time starts mirroring the uptime. So I can be at 5 hours up and 30 minutes awake, then all of a sudden it starts going towards 6 hours up and 1:30 awake. No matter what I kill, even d/l task killer (now gone) it will not stop.

So then I either pull the battery and swap it, or turn the phone off if I'm not near my spare. Then it goes back to normal until it happens again. Can *anyone* reproduce this? I've tried just about everything with only one more thing to try. Plugging in the headphones or car speaker. But I can't believe it's that.

I can also get that from the *#*# thing but that stat has never given me anything out of the ordinary. It's not like it shows Radio Time using X amount of time and I say, "Ah ha! now I got it." It shows the actual time I used the app but not that it's keeping my phone awake even after it's off.
Today I ran Radiotime, plugged in the headset, made phone calls, surfed, email all day long with Touchdown and my awake time is perhaps an hour. Perfect! But I can look in 30 minutes and all of a sudden my awake time mirrors uptime until I restart. Something weird I'm missing.

Crap, happened again today. Nothing unusual I could see, killed everything, still same. Rebooted and all is well now again. I know it's happening because my battery drops like a rock. Then I shut down and restart and the battery lasts the rest of the day. Ugh, this is frustrating. Could it be a time thing? Something that is scheduled to happen at a particular time? Only thing I have that is time sensitive is Timerrific which only loads in the morning and evening.

I was seeing usually 1 hour awake out of 10 when it sat in my pocket most of the day. On such days I could get up to 2 or 3am before the battery went red. Then one day I looked at 7pm and the awake time was about 2 hours less than the uptime so 10 and 8 and the battery was at probably 40%. So someone tell me what good that number comparison really does. That battery should have been DEAD after 8 hours awake. On other days I have seen my battery dead in 3 hours with no use at all and the phone was real warm in my pocket. The Dinc has issues or some combo of it and the apps I use. Realistically it needs a "battery manager" that can report unequivocally what is killing the battery with logging and VZ / HTC need to have customers use it to help them solve these issues. I realize there are many utilities that help you with this. But most people don't know how to make use of them properly or they don't gather the info needed to be helpful. Personally I still think this is mostly a bug in obex probably caused by HTC. The biggest issue with cell phone battery life is inability to connect reliably and how it gets handled. Combine that with a phone with lousy reception and see what you get.

My battery life is mostly stable since I started turning my phone OFF at bed time when I plug it in. How many of us can't realistically do that of course. At the very least I MUST reset my phone every 24 hours or almost certainly my battery life and sleep times suffer. I'm hoping FroYo is better and that I don't have to pay a kings ransom to switch to DroidX to get a useful battery life and decent reception.
