Droid X much better deal than evo

I own an evo and have hotspot option but it looks like the droid x is alot cheaper

$20 for hotspot option on droid and $30 on sprint
$30 data for both verizon and sprint
$40 min plan on verizon sprint is min 79 dollars

we're talking 110 bucks min for evo and 90 min for verizon

granted sprint will have unlimited data and im sure of it. does verizon or is there still a 5gb limit for phones?

might take the evo back even tho its an awesome phone but with google voice being open to anyone why pay for txt plans anymore?

The $20 hotspot option for the Droid X is capped at 2GB. The $30 Evo is unlimited I believe.

The $30 data plan is Verizon only. It's included in the Everything plan from Sprint.

My guess the $40 minimum plan of Verizon will be for maybe 450 minutes? Sprints is unlimited.

That being said, I've been a Verizon customer for some 12+ years and was considering switching to Sprint for the EVO, but the Droid X makes me think I'll be stayin' with Big Red. Cost isn't a big influence on which phone I get. I'm a "I want what I want" person.

Evo with Sprint is 69.99 + 10.00 - 25% for the Unlimited data and Mobile and unlimited texting I pay about 70 a month after taxes. How much is the comparable service with Verizon? I have a week left to return my EVO LOL I love having new gadgets definitely going to do some research on the Droid X before my week is up!

Also no sense paying that 20 from Verizon or 30 from Sprint for the "Hotspot" when you can just use the Android wifi tether for free

Just make sure you get enough minutes with Verizon. That's why I was saying the $40 minimum plan may be for only 450 minutes or so. (this is a guess on my part though) I'm not aguing with you, just reminding you the get enough minutes so you don't get socked with thier over-minute charges.

The Droid X does look like a sweet phone, huh?

buy the hotspot cause im dropping my home internet so i dont mind the 30 fee for my ps3/netflix. I suppose i could tether to the PC then set up wifi from there to save the money but i haven't looked into that. its an add on feature so if i can find a way to save the 30 i might do it (like cradlepoint releasing firmware that works with evo) then i'll really be in business.

With the 69.99 plan from sprint its unlimited mobile to ANY mobile phone...the 450 minutes is for mobile to landline calls and between 7am-7pm Monday-Friday. Since Sprint nights start at 7pm.

Ouch so $120? That is 50 bucks a month more than I pay Sprint on my EVO :/ $1200 more for Droid X over the 2 year contract, I think i'm going to have to pass unless the Droid X is amazingly Incredible or something.

So far I am leaning toward the EVO anyway, I really like having Sense UI and using the front camera for video calls is actually a really neat feature, I didn't think it was that big a deal until I made my first video call LOL I am addicted to it now!

What features does the Droid X have that the EVO doesn't? Doesn't really seem to be much information out there even though the Droid X has been released to the press.

Well I pay $150 for 2 evos right now on an unlimited plan. On a VZW family plan with 2 droid x, i would be paying $160. Sprint is cheaper for me even with a better plan and 2 4G phones. However, I will be staying with VZW simply because I get no 3G let alone 4G with sprint where I live. If Sprint had a better network, I would be throwing my money their way.

4G is not a factor for most, since not practical to use unless near a charger and is weak in buildings. Though a little slower, LTE will cover the current 3G network by the time 4G is only covering Sprint's current (much smaller) network.

Still, if you do not mind 1X data or do not travel much out of your Sprint areas, it is all good!

I live in western Massachusetts and driving around here in most of the rural areas I get 3G, granted the speeds are only around 1.2mbps where as VZW is 2.2mbps. For the amount of money I saved switching to Sprint I'm happy with that. The X is so tempting though with that soc it has.

I've looked closely at both provider's plans. For cell + data, Sprint is consistantly $10/mo cheaper than Verizon (even with the extra $10 EVO charge) for similar plans.

It is possble to save a little money with Verizon if you go with their call only plans and drop texting completely - that saves you about $10/mo with Verizon vs Sprint. But Verizon's cheapest texting plan is $5/mo for 250 texts. If you add that to the call only plan, then you are only saving about $5 off Sprint's cost (but Sprint's plan would include unlimited texting vs 250).

Personally I think the tethering charge is silly. Hopefully there will be a way to root your Droid X soon, and then you can tether without having to use the Verizon app and pay the extra $20/mo. Of course there is no guarantee that the X will be rooted, but I'm sure it is just a matter of time before it is.

Just my 2 cents - but provider cost is so similar, it really shouldn't be a deciding factor in which phone you choose. #1 factor should be the network (ie if you live in a 4G area, perhaps the EVO gets top billing), #2 factor should be phone features, #3 factor should be plan cost IMHO.

That is why I am not sold in on the 4G / LTE speeds. If I were using the phone to always tether and had no data cap, that would be another story. Problem is we will pay more and the battery will last less.

My parents are on Sprint and they get great coverage in where they live and by me as well. I would definitely spend less if I was on Sprint for my wife and I but I am locked in with Verizon and I have had no issues and they have always hooked me up with some kind of deal.

That is one of the reasons I am still there. I think both Sprint and Verizon are great companies, if I was on Sprint I would get the EVO, but I am on Verizon so I will get the X.

Plus the 69.99 plan is 450 to mobiles on ANY network so the 450 min is only used to call landlines which is rare now. Like when u call bank or something.

Yea i've been doing some research and the Sprint plan is a WAY better deal, I am liking the GPU in the Droid X, wish the GPU in EVO was similiar but aside from that I actually prefer the EVO. Regardless though for me to switch to Droid X will cost me 50 dollars a month extra which is just not worth it at all for just the faster GPU.

Google Voice sends text messages for free so only a noob would say Sprints $80 plan is cheaper than Verizons $70 plan and try to include text messaging as part of the argument. I could care less about unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes since I don't talk that much. All I care about is getting the best phone on the absolute cheapest plan that gives me 1) Data 2) 250 min/mo.

So lets see what the options are:
- Cheapest Verizon DroidX option = $70/mo
- Cheapest Sprint Evo option = $80/mo ($240 more than DroidX for the contract)

Cheapest plan if you don't talk much and are smart enough to text w/ Google Voice = Verizon
