Root Restore DI to backed up rom

Hey all! I am a new root user and have been loving the options that rooting has given me. I recently installed an overclocking kernel thanks to the guys over at XDA and (yojoe600) and am using setcpu. The only problem I had is that the max speed that it gives me to set when I auto detect is 1 Ghz. I want to restore my back up that I made when I flashed the kernel but it doesn't show up in ROM manager. I feel bad being such a noob question and needing a step by step instructions but if anyone can help it would be great. I tried going through command prompt but only got as far as it telling me "a list of devices has been attached", but my device didn't show up. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful. I did run the back up before I flashed the kernel. The kernel I used was the xda-developers - View Single Post - Freq unlocked kernel **UPDATE 6/23 | Released** / Now w/ pics. I can accept the fact that this kernel on my particular phone may not work out quite the way I'd like, but knowing how to restore my back up is something I need to understand how to do. I do not know the steps for performing a nand restore on the DI. Sorry that is the central issue here. Thanks for the help!

I just watched a video of a guy doing it with his evo and realized that when I put my phone into recovery it is not giving me any options. it just shows a "recovery mode logo", I'm not sure how to get access the recovery mode menu.

everybody get Quick Boot from the market. one quick tap of an icon and bam, your in recovery.

a must have free app for root users.

Quick boot did not solve the problem, but here is what flashes on screen when I enter the boot menu. I'm wondering if it is an issue with the files on the sd.

wait are people having difficulty getting back into recovery??

because you need recovery in order to get root which is needed for this app

i have no issues getting into recovery. Quick Boot is just a VERY simple way to get into recovery. no having to power down and then hold the vol down while pressing power. with Quick Boot, you just simply tap on the icon for the app and select recovery and bam, you're in recovery. pretty sure Quick Boot also has a shortcut you can put on a home screen that instantly boots into recovery instead of launching the app first.

i have no problems getting into recovery the normal way, this is just easier and more convenient.

Again, I can get into recovery, but the recovery menu does not show up. All there is is a black screen with the picture of the phone and an exclamation mark. It doesn't make sense. I have root, I have the wireless tethering and the overclock kernel is working as well. I just can't get access to the menu and perform a nand restore.

i think you have to hit the power button once you're at the screen with the "!".

i could be totally wrong though. all i know right know is that Quick Boot brings me right to ClockWorkMod recovery when i press recovery.

Do you have clockwork recovery? That shot you have there is the stock recovery isn't it? If so, how did you backup your Rom prior to the kernel? Nand restore and nandroid backup are part of the unrevoked recovery reflash. My recovery screen is black with green writing, it says clockwork recovery. You won't find name restore where you are looking.

clockworksmod is listed on my sd when I look through it on Astroid file manager. It is also listed in ROM manager. So I don't know what to say. I don't know why it would take me back to the stock bootloader if I have super user active. Maybe someone can explain that. I don't know...I'm about ready to start the whole thing over. Now that I know what I'm doing with rooting. It is frustrating, but if I can't access clockworksmod then having root is pointless. When we finally get good roms and a froyo port I won't be able to nand recover previous settings.
