Certified New Eris Question......

I have had my Eris since the day they came out. It had its issues before the 2.1 OTA but nothing like now. I have done 2 factory resets on the phone and wiped the phone completely out. I have even limited my apps to about 10 or less. I still have problems with the dialer, it locking up all the time, not being able to open Google Voice app, and other very irritating things. I have called Verizon several times and all they will do is send me a "Certified New" Eris.
Has anyone here done this and had any luck? I do not want to do this for the fact of my last smart phone had problems and Verizon replaced it 6 times before they finally let me get a different model phone. After a month with the new phone the charging socket stopped working and I was unable charge the phone. I called them once again to find out that the "new" phone was actually a refub. and it only came with a 30 day warranty which was over. So Verizon pretty much told me to buy a new phone at full cost. Bull shit !!
So I do not want to go through all of that crap again !!!!!
What should I do?
Suggestions and help with this would greatly appreciated !!!!

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions Frisco !!
I just do not want to go through the same crap with this phone as I did with my last smart phone.
Do you know of anyone who has a refurb?
Do they still have problems or not as many?

There are posts giving a range of opinions and experiences about their replacement devices.

Keep in mind, though, that most people come to forums with issues, wanting help. It is therefor natural to make the mistake of drawing the conclusion that this or that phone is no good because we see so many people posting complaints about them.

Personally I know of nobody with an Eris which had to be replaced.

These threads have various accounts of good and bad refurbished replacements:

Mine is one of the good refurbs. It works much better than my old one, and hasn't shown signs of any new problems. But as I said in one of the threads, I think it's because I got my replacement as soon as possible, before everyone else started sending in their messed-up phones (which undoubtedly got turned around and sent back out as refurbs). You snooze, you lose.

If that is true it speaks to horrid business practices on the part of Verizon, in my opinion.

It is bad enough that we've seen such spotty HTC quality at the point of manufacture and assembly (assumed from reading of ongoing, common bugs reported in forums around the internet); but they're putting those bad devices back into circulation too?

I talked to Verizon today and was offered a "certified like-new" replacement. The rep said I would have a 90-day warranty or the remainder of my current warranty, whichever is greater. I got this in an email from the Verizon rep also, so I feel pretty confident they'll stand by it. I've got the silent bug on mine and it's extremely frustrating.

Yea that sounds right.. I doubt they would take away your year warranty and give u a 30 day because you got a refurb ya know

Thanks for all of the advice. I just wish since it was under warranty i could get a "new" one instead of a "certified new" one. I guess I will call customer service today and try a "certified new" one.

Good luck with that. For all we know, HTC may not be making brand new Eris's anymore (and only making parts) and hence why they are sending refurbished ones mainly.

was on leak v3, no issues, trackball quit....now refurb, horrendous lag and silent bug coming up, very frustrating

I'm about to get my refurb (I'm in the same boat as you) either tomorra or Tuesday and if it screws up or lags, I'll be taking it back in and demanding a upgrade to the Moto Droid at the very least. I'm not messing with this getting screwed over stuff.

I think you have the right attitude. We give Verizon a lot of money, and we expect to have a device that works, especially for making phone calls. Although, obviously you'll catch more flies with honey.
