Seidio Innocase Active:

Intro:
So, at the time of this review, this case has only begun shipping this week. In my case, i had purchased (via pre-order) the case last week, and it shipped to me this week. Unlike other cases, this case is actually two separate pieces. So, how does it rate? Lets find out.

Shipping and Packing:
This case was shipped from Seidio, out of TX using USPS going to NM. For some reason, USPS managed to take 4 days to get across one state - do not choose the USPS shipping option if you want an order in reasonable time.

The case itself was packed in the "typical" clear Seidio packaging, and said packaging was shipped in a compact cardbox box. The only other thing shipped with the case was the receipt. In this case, the box did not have any packing insulation, but its safe to say it didn't really need it either. The case itself also ships without any installation instructions, but they aren't really needed either.

Installation:
There isn't too much to installing the case. To install, simply wrap the phone in the base rubber layer, and then clamp on the harder overshell. There isn't any kind of "click" to let you know it has attached, and should not require any effort to take off the case.

Fit and Finish:
The base soft layer feel quite nice, and while thin, doesn't feel like it can't provide protection. As well unlike other Seidio cases, the case should no scratch a phone thanks to the soft layer. The hard layer fits perfectly flush with the soft layer, and creates a very nice package. While it is obvious that the two are separate pieces, they fit very well together.

Overall Impressions:
Not too bad overall. The case does not add much bulk at all, which may be good and bad; the phone still feels compact, but the minimal case material may lead to protection issues. So, the good:

  • Very little risk of scratches or dings happening on the back of the case.
  • The camera is well protected, with the lens winding up slightly recessed behind the case.
  • The camera, flash, and rear speaker should no be effected in any way by the case. The same can be said for the USB port, with the opening big enough easily accommodate any USB cable you fit (some have large plastic blocks).
  • This case should not interfere with any screen protectors, and should not result in any pushed up corners, etc.
  • The volume keys are still very easy to access, and press very nicely.
And the bad:

  • This case offers no protection for the screen. The top of the case barely, barely sits above the screen, and wont elevate it enough o keep it off things on a table or such, should you put it face down.
  • The power button is now very hard to press, and requires a good amount of direct force to push down now.
  • The case cannot really be used without both pieces. If for some reason you want the hard piece off, you may as well take off the rubber piece as well, since it will barely stay on without the hard back.
Wrap-up:
Overall, this case feels nice, and should do some decent protecting. There obviously isn't $30 worth of material here, but there are very few good cases that cost less - this is probably as good as other cases out there, and should do a good job. I hope that i never truly test its protection value, but if i do, I will report back.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!!

Thank you very much for the speedy review. Would it be possible to take a picture to show exactly how much the case stands above the screen?

I tried, but it is hard for the camera to get. It is literally no more thin couple of pieces of paper above the phone.

Why is the power button so hard to push?
The rubber is thicker on the top and bottom, so it requires force directly from above to push the button, where before i could come from the side and still get it.

Is the rubber really thick in that area? Lastly do the edges around the front of the phone push away easily since they are so thin?

They are a little thicker on the top and bottom, but if you catch em, yes, they will pull away. While not too far, it would be enough to let some dust-sand in there.

Very nice review. I got the case today also.

Couple thoughts:
The case fits very snug around the phone and I like the way the two pieces fit together.
I like when I place my phone on the desk, it's not sitting on the camera lens. Has a nice flat surface.

The case appears to give good protection to the sides and back of the phone.

On a side note: My main complaint with the Innocase II is that it scratched my previous phones. Since this has a soft rubber material going around the phone, I don't think (hope) I'll have the same problem with this case.

Also, be curious how the rubber holds up that fits around the front of the phone.

Overall, I think this is the best case I have gotten from Seidio and is a strong competitor to Otterbox.

As a future release, it would be nice if Seidio would sell the active pieces seperately so we could mix and match colors.

I hope you aren't accusing me of something......, but no, in no way was i compensated in any way. I wish i was, because it hurts paying $30 for $1 worth of plastic and rubber. :p

Not at all. I have written quite a few reviews on products by calling / e-mailing and asking for a product free in exchange for the review. However, I made sure to always disclose this in my reviews as well. I think it just makes a person more reputable to do so. Since your review was so.. glowing.. I thought you may have been, and wanted to make sure it was brought into the open if you were.

I didn't think it was a "glowing" review, and I resent being called a shill. Anyone who had read the othe thread knew i had pre-ordered the phone, so I saw no reason to post anything about compensation.

Anyway, i hope the review answers genuine questions from people, and I am happy to answer any more real questions people may have.

Thank you for posting this! After reading your review, I think I'd like to wait and see what Otterbox has to offer. The fact that it doesn't protect the screen much is pretty disappointing.

No disagreement there. Though, i hope that since at least it does come up to screen level, that it will protect the screen in a drop still. But face down, its of no use (so get a good screen protector at least!)
