Well after going thru 4 Evo's.they all had either dead pixels on the screen or dust particals under the glass.and i noticed either one screen was more brighter then the other an so on..well I just said hell with it an got rid of the Evo all together..I just cant take the dust under the screen issue..all off them have dust under the screen right out of the damn box..hell just walk outside in teh sunlight an you will see dust or lint under the screen..very annoying ..Also i was very dissapointed that HTC would use such CRAPPY TFT screens in these phones.I'm sorry but the screen on this phone looks like Garbage..Anyway I will just wait til Sprint comes out with another android phone..hopfully with the new SUPER AMOLED screen..my Palm Pre will be just fine for now....sorry for the rant..but its pretty sad that these phone come with so many defects/or with dust under the screen..hell I went thru 4 htc heros with the same problem DUST .......hopfully htc will get there head out of there ass an beef up there quality control.

So, is it wrong of me to want to gloat about the build quality on my flawless Evo?
No. I really don't get these negative takes as this is the best tech I have owned and I have a lot of high tech. The screen isn't good enough? The colors are spot on, good contrast and crisp. I am almost convinced there are hires from the competition spending all day writing negatives.

Between my wife and I we are on our 6th flawless HTC phones. Touch Pro > Hero > Supersonic EVO

If you go looking for problems, you will find them. Search this string in Google and you will see.

dust under screen site:discussions.apple.com

I am happy you made a quick descision as it spares the rest of use from reading throught these types of phost. 4 phones, really?

Maybe it's not HTC that needs to get their head out of their ass...

I completely support the OP. He is absolutely correct about HTC's horrible build quality.

I've been through 5 Hero's waiting for my 3rd Evo. If the rest of you would increase your quality standards you would find faults with HTC as well. Further, the relentless bashing of members that complain about build quality is getting ridiculous. It's okay that the manufacturer of your handset does a piss poor job, you have no reason to defend a poor manufacturer.

Come on guys, he's obviously a troll. Theres no way he would get 4 bad evo's in a row. Apple fanboy trying to put up negative feedback.

Call me an apple troll and the forum will laugh at you. Seriously. The issues are all over the various android forums, and sprint forums. And given the screen on the evo is lifted on quite a few devices, dust under the screen was a no brainer. I knew that would happen from day one. HTC is starting to cheap out on build quality, which is unbelievable. I never had problems like this on my HTC winmo lineup. HTC needs to get their act together, or moto/samsung will take it's place.

^this is why forum members are ridiculed when they have a bad handset... You really think iPhone users have tons of time to spend on and Android forums complaining?

Do you think that because you spend time on iPhone forums complaining about them or something?

Actually, sadly, there are quite a few iPhone users or wannabe iPhone users here that do this very thing. Happens everyday.

It's funny, i've had the mogul, diamond, pre, hero & now the evo & i've never seen the dust under the screen issue on any of them. If I gotta take it outside, or put it under a bright light to see it, I could give a shit less if it's there.

Plus I've never had to exchange ANY of them because of ANY problems. I just can't believe anybody would have to exchange phones multiple times like some of these guys on these forums I read about. 5 phones & not ONE problem with ANY of them. Am I just lucky? I highly doubt it.

So pretty much, you'd rather wait until after you can't exchange it to discover a problem exists?

Here's a quick question then: If you need a bright light, and do in fact see dust, is there an issue?

Or is there some sort of HTC light-level/visible-dust acceptance ratio that I should know about?

To be clear, I am not attacking you personally, I just want to know, if there is some dust under the screen (regardless of how much light to see it) what amount is acceptable before it should be considered defective?

Should I wait to complain about dust until I cant see something on my phone because the dust is blocking it, or can I mention it after see it in sunlight when I'm outside??

For people with jaundice, everything appears yellow because they have a yellow tinge to their eyes. Also, empirical research in psychology shows that sometimes you tend to see what you already believe. I am sure isolated units here and there have problems with dust and dead pixels, but the odds of one person getting 8 such units in a row with identical defects from a single manufacturer seem pretty low. Just something to think about as you continue your search.

I know how difficult finding the right device is, so I wish you the best of luck.

Like I said, if the ONLY way to see it is in a bright light condition, than I don't give a shit if it's there or not. Is the dust making it not work right? NOPE!! So who cares if it's under the friggin screen or not? The ONLY problem I would have is if the dust was affecting how the phone works, & I've not seen ANY posts stating that the dust is affecting how the phone works.

Affecting visibility on whats supposed to be a luxurious screen(one of the main selling points here) does affect how the phone works. I wouldn't settle for that.
