Black Tie Protection Plan

But why is it a ripoff even though you read it on a couple forums? I got it on my phone also. If anything(ANYTHING) happens to the phone, they replace it with a new phone(not a refurb). You cant beat that!

Not so quick. It doesn't cover theft. The replacement policy is "comparable replacement"

Mobile Phones

And usually you can get a new phone after a year from VZW.

As far as cancel goes you should be able to do it as a refund in the store if you act quickly. Otherwise you have to do it by POSTAL MAIL.

TEC from VZW covers theft but has a deductible.

Most extended warranties are a rip off (see Consumer Reports and others) and that's why they are pushed so hard at point of sale. That's where the profit is because most people don't use them.

I don't see paying $9 or $10 a month for coverage for spilling or hurting my phone.

Extended warranty for 1 year = $120 which is too close to what the Droid II will go for probably. And of course it overlaps the Moto warranty.

For two years you're talking $240 and you'd be far better using your NE2 credit.

Also note that if you spill on it or anything similar, they can try to repair it instead of replacement. I wonder how long that takes.

I am kinda in the air about what to do. I originally denied insurance and then 2 hours later dropped my phone on tile which dinged the side a bit. Made me think what I would do if the phone was damaged before I was eligible for an upgrade. I ended up adding BB protection plan because it covers the phone for ANY damage including water with no deductible. $10 a month isn't exactly cheap, but then again I get 20% off my Verizon plan through work, so in the end, I still pay less overall than what I would with no discount from my employer. Yes in the course of 2 years that is $240 but that is still cheaper than replacing the phone at the full retail, no contract price. I think for now going to keep it.

I just called Verizon and upgraded my insurance. I was paying $3.99 for protection against defects (which the manufacturer has for a year). So now I pay $7.99 for what she called a warranty which covers defects and lost or stolen phones. You can cancel anytime, but if you do you will not be able to put it back on until your 2 year contract is up.

Shit I forgot to ask about water damage...

Water damaged? Just tell them you lost it.... nuff said. Either way, you will still pay $89 deductible...

For me, I did the $7.99 plan... I have experience drop and lost on my phones in the past and had to fork $1200 for the 2 phones (Treo 700w)... back then the insurance is $3.99 a month... Ever since then, I sign up for the WPP insurance.

The past 2 years, I had to change my MotoQ 3 times (twice for manufacture defect - which is free of deductible, and the third time when my 2-year old son dropped my phone on our toilet... he thinks its funny as hell!

the 7.99 plan - AKA TEC also covers water damage up to TWICE in one year. and the deductible has always been 50 bucks for the ~5 years i've had it. So unless things have changed I'm not sure where the 89 dollar figure is coming from.

I have a small busines - I pick and choose which lines to get it. One guy I had was just a scatter brain. I got it on his line- TWO DAYS after he had the phone he dropped it in a stream- thought for sure they would have something to say but you basically fill out the form on line and they overnight you a new phone with a return pouch for just the phone. I've gotten 4 phones from them over the years - every single time they send a brand new phone in the exact same package as the stores including all the accessories. They only want the phone back- you keep all youre accessories and the battery. When you get a verizon warrenty replacement in the first year - they always try to get you a refurb- you will only get a new phone if the phone is a realy brand new model so they dont yet have refurbs.

So it's not for everyone but if you are a clutz or someone on your plan is then maybe the insurance from VZ is a good idea. I just got my 11 year old son a phone- he has the insurance- if he doesn't lose it in the next year I'll be impressed. My phones I generally dont get the insurace becuase I've had smartphones for years and am used to them so I can coddle them long enough to get my year/2 year discounts and just buy myself a new toy if I have a problem.

Don't believe the Best Buy rep when they tell you they will replace it with a new one. Thats what they told me too and I just had my entire screen shatter on my new droid. They said it will be a minimum of 30 days to 'repair it'. I said what about getting a new one? They said they have to send it in to see if it can be repaired. After the 30 days minimum without my phone, they may decide it can't be repaired and then give me a refurb, if they don't have any refurb then and only then will I get a new phone.

Sure they gave me a 'loaner' phone which is a piece of shit windows mobile phone which is useless. I have plenty of old phones I could have used in the mean time, but I want my freakin droid back!!!!!
