Incredible to Droid X?

I'm so torn.

I have until Monday to decide if I should swap my Incredible for an X.

I've been hanging out in the Incredible forums, but new here, so I figured I'd see what the other side says.

I've been happy with the Incredible, but the X definitely is a better piece of technology.

I don't make too many calls, I do a lot of emailing, some texting, some multimedia, some casual games and just random (fun) apps mainly.

One thing I'm very worried about is that the Incredible is going to wind up getting buried. Verizon must be royally ticked off at HTC right now for their supply problems. Clearly, Verizon is counting on the X as being their flagship device at the moment and both them and google seem to be putting a lot of weight behind it.

The big worry about the X is size. I typically carry a phone in my pocket, without a case and just with a screen protector. I have relatively small hands.

If X really does significantly outperform the Incredible (with an upgraded 1500mah) battery-wise, that'd be a nice advantage. Is there any real evidence yet that the battery is better?

With the Incredible, I can hold it in my right hand and swype with my right thumb without needing my left hand at all. Will I be able to do that with the X?

I do see that the X's swype keyboard has the mic icon. I'm not sure they Incredible will ever see a mic icon in swype.

A couple of other minor things, but might make a difference.

X is a micro usb, right? Where is it positioned on the phone? I really hate having the plug on the left on the Incredible. Unless I get a right angle usb cable, it makes it tricky to use it while lying on my left side.

Anything else I should be considering?

Is there anywhere I can go to actually see an X in person? The Verizon store here didn't have one. I can go see an EVO, which is pretty close and get an idea that way.

It really all just comes down to how much of a problem the size of the phone is compared to the extra features, bettery battery?, larger screen.

you won't see an x in a verizon store until July 15th when the phone is launched. The x is slightly narrower than the Evo. So if you want to go hold an evo in your hand you should have a good idea if this phone will be to wide for you. Unfortunately the X has the charging port on the bottom left of the phone, which will be in the way for anyone who holds the phone in their left hand and interacts with their right. there will probably be other features of swype that will be available in the Droid X that aren't available in the Incredible simply because what is available for the Inc is a beta version where as the X comes with an officially supported, full featured version of swype.

I just ordered my X at BB and stuck an Evo in my pocket first just to see how it fits... That thing is huge but actually feels more comfortable in my pocket than my BB Tour does. I know the X is going to be bigger but I have average size hands and I'm 5'9" and thought the Evo looked big but felt just fine in my pocket.

I was unsure about the Inc purchase but feel real good about this. Never had a real big phone before so this could get interesting.
Do you have the Inc yet?

I came from a touch pro, which was even a lot shorter than the incredible, but a lot thicker and a lot heavier. The X is even yet taller and wider, but very thin.

I mean, it's in my pocket when I'm walking around, driving, out of the house. When I'm at home or work, it's just lying on a table, doesn't really matter how big it is then.

I just need to try the EVO and make my decision that way.

Plus, the other factor (though minor) is I have to go back to my touch pro for 3 weeks. That's going to be painful!

How exactly do I do the exchange? Verizon says I just need to have it scheduled for a fedex pickup by Monday (I kept the return label thing).

I can't even place the order for the new one until July 15th? Will I likely then get it by the Monday 19th if it goes 2nd day air?

It's a phone on a business plan, so I'd think it's going to have to be ordered directly from Verizon.

I've been thinking the same thing. My Inc like everyone else's is on backorder and its getting very frustrating. So why not get a better screen, better battery life, better processor and an HD camera at no extra cost.
Because it's freakin huge!

That's the only negative I can come up with on the X. Huge also does equal big screen, so it's not entirely a negative.

For me, I'll see how the EVO feels and if I think I can handle that in my hands and pocket, I think I'm going to make the swap.

I really do love the Inc's form factor. I don't think I'd switch for the bigger screen. It's the processor, 720p video, battery life and potential higher level of Verizon support (like official swype) that's got me most interested.

As I said in my OP, I'm also starting to worry how much Verizon is going to support the Incredible. I know it's still on sale, but it's sales life appears that it's going to be very short. Even if it stays on sale for a while, they are pushing the X way harder. The X is clearly going to be the phone with a larger installed user base come a year from now.

Oh ya, its a monster for sure, it will eat your pockets. But if thats the only negative then it seems like a sweet deal to me. And it has guaranteed Android
2.2, which should make the phone even faster.

BGR just reported that the Droid X has "Excellent" battery life...even w/ the bigger screen...

I personally cannot say this is the case with the Incredible.

Another big thing is the 3 mics the Droid X has.(1 For Noise Cancellation!)
BGR video clear shows off the Superior audio playback of a video recording using the Droid X.

I RETURNED my Incredible the day I found out that the Droid X was coming in July, I went back to a Blackberry STORM to wait!! That should tell you something right there about how great the Droid X is.
ME....going back to a Storm...(OUCH!!!!!!)
In addition to my issues with my Droid Incredible,
My Incredible was Freezing/locking up after I took a picture.
End result, I was losing the picture I took, each time my Droid Incredible Camera froze.
As a father, I cannot have this happening on a regular basis.

I had the grounding issue with my Droid Incredible, meaning I had to be touch the phone elsewhere besides the screen in order for the screen to respond to touch. In a car dock... or just the phone laying down on a table.

The Droid X appears to NOT have a grounding touch issue. That has been proven in many videos already.

1 last thing, I noticed my hands were cramping more on the Incredible due to the overall size of the device. The Incredible just wasn't big enough for my big hands.
When I bought the Incredible, I bought it more simply to get away from blackberry.
This time around, I am buying the Droid X to get away from BB, AND for everything the DX is as a phone. I feel pretty confident this time around.

I support an upgrade to the DX.

I would think about switching from my Inc to the X but I would definitely have to wait until it received 2.2. No Exchange support (remote wipe, password, etc.) is a deal breaker. So HTC will have until the X gets 2.2 to at least announce a date for the Incredible to get 2.2 or I am probably jumping to the X.

I made the decision to cancel my DInc order (which was not scheduled to ship until July 9th anyway) and wait for the Droid X. I have small hands so I picked up an HTC Evo to hold to see if it would be too big to hold and it wasn't. I can't offer an opinion on the too big for pocket because I carry my phone in a handbag. ;)

I went to a Sprint store and took a look at the EVO. It's a good bit bitter than the Inc, but I don't think it's "too" big. Fit it my pocket fine. There was no swype, but, even with my small hands, I was able to hold the phone one handed and type/fake swype.

I think the Inc is going back. Nothing at all against the Inc or anyone who gets/keeps theirs. Great phone, love it and love Android. I just think the X has surpassed it in technology and since I'm still within 30 days, I might as well take advantage of it.

Ugh, don't remind me about the Moto Q. I had that before my Touch Pro.

So far battery life sounds good
This is a quote from the review on phoneScoop

"I don't have quite enough data to share at this point. What I can say is that I received the phone with an 80% charge at 2PM. After heavy use, the Droid X still had 50% at 11PM. That's not bad at all, though I hadn't synced email. Today, I left the house at 5AM with a full charge. After 9 hours of email, Twitter, etc., it still has 70% charge.

That's sounds real good to me.

It's a real good detailed review also.

Just my 2 cents which isn't much but I have a Moto Droid...I bought an Evo 20 days ago just to play with and see if I liked it..Nice phone but... I also had an Inc but went back to my Droid. My bottom line is that the HTC sense is nice at first and there phones seem great but once you play with them you find the short comings. I think HTC phones in my opinion are kinda cheap. Go with the Moto X

As far as battery reviews, you really have to take that with a grain of salt. Just read the forums here and see the difference in battery life reports on the same phone.

"Heavy" means different things to different people. Signal is so critical too. It might mean a little more if the person had both an inc and x and tried to approximate usage to be the same on both. That'd be interesting to see.

I really have no complaints on build quality of either my HTC Touch Pro or the Incredible. On the other hand, I was in a T-Mobile store today and looked the HTC My Touch Slide and I couldn't believe how much of a POS it feels like. Real light, low quality plastic. I was surprised, I thought they were pushing that as a high end phone.

I just listed my Inc on Ebay and I will get the X. I like the Inc, but for me the X is better in every way.

My decision is official. Began backing up any .apks I had not through market, my photos, etc.

Seems like, with Android especially, it's not going to be so horrible to switch phones (like in the WinMo world).

The biggest problem is trying to live with my Touch Pro until 7/15 (or whenever I actually get my DX).

I too like the Inc, but agree that X has it beat all around. If you can deal with the size, it's really a no-brainer.

I wouldn't have been unhappy keeping my DI for 2 years, I'll just be a little happier with the DX.

I was talking to a friend of mine who also knows of the Inc vs the droid and he said that it mainly comes down to the UI, and from what I've read the HTC's sence is a far better UI.
-Thoughts?
Well, seems like X will not have Motoblur. Not sure exactly what it does have, but it's sounding like it might be closer to vanilla Android than Inc, which, in my opinion, would be a plus.

Whatever it is, I'm sure I'll get used to it and will be fine.

I went to a Verizon store today to play with the DX, and sure enough they didn't have it, just like someone posted earlier. I think its ridiculous of VZW to not give one demo to each store so people can go in to play with it before they plunk down the cash, especially for people like me who are buying a replacement phone. They handed out plenty of units to journalists at the NY DX unveiling event, they could easily have had enough for the major stores around the country.

Putting the EVO in your pocket is great, except for the potential for misunderstanding from store security, but I want to know how the device works, and taking CNET or some other tester's word for it isn't enough. Isn't this why they set up cell phone stores to begin with?
