Our beloved EVO beats the Droid X Video

hmmm YouTube - Droid X benchmark tests

I don't know why i would want the Droid X and its separate GPU i myself am not into gaming on a hand held, nor watching HD vidoes on a 4 inch screen <- i think its rather pointless - but if you aren't like me, Yes droid X will easily outshine the EVO especially with the 30 FPS, which the xdev team have almost? sorted out. Off topic = I will only switch to Verizon when they have LTE coverage in my area =]

That UI on the X is just hideous.

It's just a combo of sorts...like a lot of people I like whats under the hood of the X, but the EVO to me is just a way better looking phone from top to bottom, putting the UI's against each other is a joke, Sense beats it up. And Froyo is going to give me all the speed I really need in a phone...

What a wonderful, professional review from... TheStreet TV? lol Wait for Engadget or somewhere else with an actual reputation in the technology industry. I mean come on... you'll really take anything. If some source named EVOFTW came out with an EVO vs. iPhone 4 and put EVO way over the top, it would be reputable and with sound, unbiased judgement.

Seriously? You didn't see the Droid X beat the EVO in every benchmark test, ESPECIALLY in Quadrant? Or is that just all false?

Take a much closer look.

When i am buying a benchmark i will buy the droid X. When i am buying a phone where i am going to interact with the Ui i will buy the EVO. The evo is an amazing phone for web browsing. The way it reformats the text to fit the screen when you zoom counts more than some quadrant benchmark.

Stop beating your hollow chest over a spec sheet or benchmark. It makes you look 16.

We are buying phones to use. Its hard for you to understand because you want to troll an evo message board but we dont care about you nerdy benchmark. You dont even understand these test. Please educate us on what exactly we are watching in these test. And no, not a summary of the score. I want to know exactly what is being tested. The person who made the video didnt even know. So please fill us in so we can get all geeked up over it like you are.

Engadget did review our phone. And guess how that turned out. They loved it. But i guess they must not have access to your wonderful insightful benchmark test. Or maybe like everyone else they just dont care. They review based on usability and owner experience not benchmarks no one understands or cares about.

First off, I don't get your post? What does the iPhone have to do with this thread. Second, Engadget, CNET, Boy Genius and all the rest of these sites peg every new phone as If its the second coming. They have all been doing it for years already! Anyway, take it or leave it. The review I will trust is mine, I have the EVO, and I know what I got. And when the Droid X comes out, I'll get it and test it out, case closed!

Wait...what are doing in here, do you even have an EVO? Must be getting boring in the incredible Forums.

I don't know why i would want the Droid X and its separate GPU ...

Dear god, please make it stop!

That's pure, unadulterated baloney.

The EVO's Snapdragon 8650 and the Droid X's OMAP 3630 are VERY similar and the EVO also has a GPU.

By many accounts - a better one.

Why then is video faster on the Droid X?

Here's what I think - shenanigans.

Even Vihzel totally agrees with me:

Take a much closer look.

I think HTC has been making steady improvements to this phone over time. If you look at early reviews there were several issues that are getting better over time. My theory is that this was a demo/early production version. Whether it's benchmark performance, screen washout, fit and finish, screen issues it seems many things are getting better as time goes. Those linpack results are way off.

Those linpack results are way off.

Yeah, but not for the reasons you think. I got my EVO on 6/6 and tonight I measured above 6.9 MFLOPS with Linpack. I loaded various bloatware apps and got it to drop to just above 5.

Android is dynamic. You could have any number of any type of apps loaded in doing any types of things. And your MFLOPS measurement would change.

The Linpack benchmark is really excellent for one thing and one thing only:

To give people excuses to put stuff up on YouTube.

It's Linpack itself that's off - it was designed for a different age, for a different class of computing machines, for a different class of computing problems.

For a multi-media mobile device doing Android-type multi-tasking, Linpack is absolutely, completely, and totally worthless.

By the way, I have zero washout, and I've had zero build issues.

Some people get defective units, some don't.

Shenanigans.

BTW - Let's see if my prediction is right:

When 2.2 comes out for the EVO, it will run graphics at the same speed as the Nexus One.

When 2.2 comes out for the Droid X, there will be little to no change from the performance you see today.

Here's a block diagram of the Droid X's OMAP 3630 processor, on page 3:

http://focus.ti.com/lit/ml/swpt024b/swpt024b.pdf

Here's a reference for the Snapdragon 8650:

Qualcomm Products and Services - The Snapdragon Platform

The Droid X does not have a separate GPU - its PowerVR SGX530 GPU is part of the SoC (system on chip) architecture.

The EVO does not lack a GPU - its AMD Z430 GPU is part of the SoC.

Please share these two important facts with everyone you know or will ever meet.

Think of me going from forum to forum, from thread to thread, trying to correct the stupidity of every idiot that owns a website and publishes misinformation.

Do it for any number of great reasons.

Think - of the children!

I agree, the first time I tested while tethering, and surfing on my laptop, I got anywhere from 3-6 on linpack. Once I stopped it settled between 6.6 and 6.958. I could tell this was a dynamic thing and linpack was only taking a snapshot when it really should take an average over a period of time to draw a more accurate conclusion.

I also ran the quadrant and my EVO went through the test faster than the Droid on that video but still produced lesser results (probably due to FPS). And I have also considered that when both get 2.2 the EVO will see much better improvement than the Droid will. I have nothing to back that up, was just a haunch. Heck, may not even take that long to see better results in the EVO if this new update on Monday has a significant effect.

I have zero of the issues as well. And my unit it a 003 bought a few days after launch which is why I think the later the model, the better they are getting.
