Build date is found on the inside of the back cover.

Mine reads "DT10.04.26" I have a Version 2

Not exactly sure what the DT means, but the other numbers mean it was manufactured on 4/26/10.

The DT could be the place of manufacturing? Or the line. Is anyone's different?

This Poll is to try and figure out when the version 2 ended, and the version 3 began. It is also to figure out when the screen change was.

Thanks to owl, we have a guide to finding your screen type!
HOW TO FIND YOUR 003 SCREEN TYPE:
[Tutorial] How to check your 003 screen type... - PPCGeeks

I'll help bump this back up!

An easier way to tell what screen you have is to download "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Market. Run it, type in dmesg and hit enter. Scroll down to line 7 and you'll either see Epson, or Nova...

HW003 here with Epson! I was worried for a moment.

To find your Hardware Version-
Menu>Settings>About Phone>Hardware Information

All version 2's have the Novatek screen.
Version 3's have either Novatek or Epson.

The Novatek screen is said to have a "Purplish Tent" and "Warmer Tones"
The Epson is said to have "Whiter and Brighter Tones"

Edit: I forgot to add an "Unknown Screen, Version 3" dangit.

Whats the big deal about turning on the phone?

Unless you mean like when getting a new one.

This thread could help that, if we can figure out when the version 2 stopped, and the version 3 began, then you could just use the born-on date.
yeh, because I want to replace my phone but don't want to go through the hassle if the reps tell me "no you can power on unlesss u take the phone." etc

I wonder if the Epson screen uses more or less battery? Since the colors are different, couldn't the power consumption be different also?

Could be another reason why some have great battery while others have worse.

Keep voting, this is an odd mix. Seems like the Epsons were just tossed in when needed.

Whats the 2 letters before the date on an Epson Screen? I'm wondering if it's different than mine.

Yes, I was thinking about the question of what exactly the build date signifies. (Battery door or phone.) I am going to check my wife's phone tomorrow night and see if her date is the same. Her serial number is two digits different than mine. If the battery door date is different between the phone, than the entire date comparison is questionable. If not, then the build date still hasn't been confirmed.

I would suggest that everyone include the last five of the serial numbers to confirm build date. The question is what number to use. MEID, IMSI?

I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe that's just the date the door was made.

I agree. I believe the build date is on the red part of the phone (with the cover off). There are two numbers that look like dates. One is under the kickstand and the other is to the lower left of the battery. Mine is 100507, whil my battery door is 10.05.04. It would stand to reason that the battery door would be built before the completed phone, so I'm assuming the number of the phone is more likely the actual build date.

I have a Rev. 0003 with zero problems.

If I'm reading the emulator correctly, I have an Epson screen.

White HTC EVO 4G
*HW 003
*Novatek Screen
*Battery Cover Build Date: 6.23.2010
*Left of Battery Build Date: 5.23.2010
*Right of Battery Build Date: 6.11.2010
*Below Battery/Kickstand Build Date: 6.17.2010

No light leakage or screen separation issues.

I voted "Hw Version 3, Novatek Screen, BD of June 16th or after" based on the battery cover build date. I think people are correct in believing that the battery cover date is later than the actual hardware build date, but it still seems accurate in determining the range of builds since I assume a battery cover with a newer build date is more likely to have newer hardware/construction methods within it.
