Help No Notification sounds

I haven't been able to hear notifications lately, the volume is up but nothing. My ringer for my phone works and I made sure the notification, ringer and media volumes are all set to high. The speaker is working because when I hit the volume rocker it makes a beep. I feel silly asking for this but it just stopped ringing and I don't know how to get it back.

Strange indeed. Well, it's fairly well known that downloading the Sound Manager app clears up issues with lack of vibration when it's supposed to. Perhaps give it a shot for your volume problem. If nothing else, you can open that app and see all your volume controls for system, ringer, notification, media, alarm and in-call all in a single glance.

I'm having the same problem - the notification sound will only go off every so often. It's pretty annoying when i unlock my phone and i see that i missed several text messages. After I reboot, I'll send myself an email to test the notification sound and it'll work, but it always seems to stop working after a while. The speaker is fine, the volume is up...not sure what the problem is.

I've noticed the same thing. It seems to be really bad with GTalk, but it happens with all of my notifications. At first, I thought that maybe I just wasn't hearing them all the time...

Its defnitely not you missing them most of the time. I have had several emails, messages, and notifications come in with my phone right next to me on my desk and not a peep.

Very strange issue and seems to have only started recently

I have had this same problem. Just noticed it today. I have everything set correctly. I know because I checked myself about 6 times. The difference for me is that I am not getting any sound at all. I called my cell from my office phone and nothing. It vibrates but no sound. Not even a beep when I changed the volume on the side switch.

There are 6 Diff Volume Variables on an Android Phone.
System
Ringer
Notifications
Media
Alarm
In-Call

I had this exact same issue with my Eris, only with the alarm clocks. Turned out while the Alarm was playing, I had hit the vol down button and lowered the alarm volume Variable to 0.

I found a perfect app, that I've used on both my Eris and Incredible to control volume.

market://details?id=com.revsodev.volumecontrol

Gives full control of all 6 Volume controls using sliders. Quick and simple program ^^ enjoy ^^

Is it on the SD card?

I've had times where my Ringers wouldn't work right or sounds wouldn't work right, turned out they were on the SD card which wasn't available due to being connected as a disk drive. Could be that something else was using the SD card, it was mounted, and/or just wasn't available fore some reason... short of that then I would try a factory Reset from the bootloader and see if that solves the issues. Might be a software glitch

Did you recently install LauncherPro? I'm having the same issue and the only thing that I changed lately was switching from Sense to LauncherPro.

No LauncherPro, I'm okay with HTC Sense.

Out of pure frustration I did a hard reset. It's fixed for now. It must of been some 3rd party app conflict. IMO that's the down side of OS fragmentation and a huge app market. We are of course we are in a better place than those red in your face all over the place days.

No launcher pro sir, just plain ol sense. I wish I could figure out what I did when it stopped working. For now I am ok with rebooting. If this were my blackberry I would be throwing shit cause that took a good couple minutes to come back.

My notification sounds have STOPPED too. :( WTH is up with that?

edit***HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! I figured out what was causing my problem! I DL Volume Locker from the market and when I deleted it, BINGO! My notification sounds returned!***edit

I'm the developer of Volume Locker -- and that doesn't make much sense at all. Are you talking about the app "Volume Button Locker" or mine?

Volume Locker itself shouldn't do that unless you set the timeout to zero (no notification, no popup, nothing) and lock the volume level at zero. Otherwise it'll prompt you.

I had it too, for the last couple days, but I was also getting a simultaneous alert message, saying I didn't have enough space, which was puzzling to me, since phone storage was at a minimum.

My SD card was full however, with MP3's, but I'd never intentionally actually sent anything other than music to the SD card.

Anyhow, I think I fixed the notification sound absence (I wasn't getting any notifications whatsoever) or it fixed itself for the time being. It turns out I hadn't been clearing out the trash or the sent folders on my HTC mail client, so that made the difference, and gave me some more space.

On the other somewhat related topic, I had also been having problems sending photo attachments via HTC email and I'm guessing that is because the SD card is full and I didn't realize that every email attachment from my HTC mail client is storing on the SD card in a folder called ".mail" which I wasn't even aware of, which then in turn filled up my SD card without my knowledge.

It's kind of weird because I never intentionally store anything on my SD card except music. I've prompted my photos to save to internal storage, and whenever I open an email attachment I just look at it in the picture viewer. I don't prompt them to save at all, much less to the SD card.

Why the heck are all these files storing themselves on my SD card? I've checked all my settings and they seem all to be ok, so I wonder why this is happening, and I guess in the meantime, I'll just have to monitor that folder and clear it out every so often?

thanks in advance for any input anyone can give
