Contract up in 2011. Best way to get a Droid X?

I'm a current VZW customer, with a Blackberry that I'll have had for a year come mid-July.

Once upon a time Verizon allowed an "annual upgrade" but that seems to have disappeared, much to my dismay. I stopped by the local corporate store today and got this confirmed by one rep. I didn't go into detail with him as far as ways to get a Droid X next month. He wouldn't even acknowledge that the phone existed. (I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't take the time to point out it's on Verizon's own website now.)

I have a $125 ETF fee that I'm willing to pay to unload my existing contract to get the Droid. But I do NOT want to change phone numbers.

Any suggestions?

Annual upgrade still exists. I just logged into MyVerizon and it shows that my main line is eligible for 2-year pricing and that it's still 6 months away from NE2 (Jan 2011). I am going to get my Droid X on this line.

After you pass your 1-year point, log into MyVerizon and you'll see that you can order a phone at the 2-year discounted rate.

My main number isn't eligible for the new every 2 until Jan. They will allow you to upgrade and charge you a fee for early renewal ($30?). I believe this takes the place of the new every 2, but I may be mistaken about that. If you call in your order or go to a store you may be able to talk them out of the early renewal fee. I was able to. (At least this was how the sales rep described it to me.)

Thanks. I'll be sure and check as sure as the anniversary date passes.

You actually just may want to be patient. The Droid Incredible was released in April. 4 months later its obsolete due to the Motorola Droid X. When January 2011 hits who knows what kind of phones we'll be seeing. The rumored HTC Droid Vision is expected to pack a 1.2GHz Dual Snapdragon processor, 16 MP camera, 1080p video en/decoding, and 1280 x 800 screen resolution. You may very well run into a flagship phone towards the end of your contract.

You do know the Incredible isn't obsolete right? The Incredible is still a great phone and a lot of reviewers have said it is just as fast as the X. But you are right, there will be more phones coming out all of the time, if he can someone get one of these phones might as well get one, no since in waiting on the next best thing.

Call up VZW and ask them about it, for whatever reason you can't do the annual upgrade in stores, but if you call them and you're eligible (your plan has to be over X amount of dollars and it only works on your main line), but on the phone they'll let you know. My annual upgrade isn't until July 24th, so I'm going to call up closer to the release and beg and plead for them to move my date up

Also, they said as soon as you hit your annual upgrade day it'll be visible on the website and say you can upgrade, but it's not visible until THAT day.
