I know this is a stupid issue but my phone does not want to write the word "I'm" when I text. It comes up with a blank spot even when the suggested word pops up from the predict feature. How can I fix this?

Also, auto orientation is all messed up. when i turn the phone to the side to put the screen into landscape, and then rotate it back, It does not auto rotate back to normal view. The feature is check to auto orientation. I've tried to calibrate the g-sensor in both orientations... nothing

i have the problem with orientation too. i have to shake the phone to get it to switch. ive calibrated it many times. i use shapewriter to type. it does a nice job with that type of punctuation

do you think this will address the issue. it is only a problem with the compact qwerty.

It may address the issue, it's worth a try. Both of these keyboards (and there are others) I feel are far superior to the stock HTC board. I'm not entirely certain if a hard reset would help with this; which is always an alternative.

Did you ever factory reset your phone after you received the 2.1 update? (assuming you did receive the 2.1 update via OTA or leak).

No I have not done a reset. Do I have to back up all of my stuff (apps, contacts)?

There are a few things to consider, your contacts will be fine as long as they are "Google" contacts (versus phone contacts) and they will be synced to your phone when it initializes. Apps will still be in your downloads at the Market, but only for 1 visit to the Market; meaning when you first visit, your downloaded applications will be there, but only for that first visit will they all be there, a suggestion is to go to AppBrain and create "My Apps" profile that will list what you have installed on the phone. If you read around, the factory data reset has helped many people with many of the issues/glitches/etc they had been experiencing after the update. Here are a few threads I think are worth reading:

Don't do a factory reset if everything else is running well. Bad advice.

This is a known issue. It was in the 2.1 trouble shooting thread somewhere awhile back.

I had the problem with the compact qwerty. If you go into the touch input turn on correction and completion, then go back and type "I'm" and touch the suggestion, it will work. Then go back and reset the settings the way you want them (i turned off the spell correction). It will then remember the word "I'm".
