Battery sucks BTW. I thought battery on my Touch Pro2 was bad, the SGS is worse! I cannot get by a day without having to charge the phone 2 or 3 times.
That's just regional markings, the battery specs are identical.
I've had my SGS running 48 hours at the moment. Not hard use though. I've done some surfing, some voice calls, taken a few pictures, tested the GSP and done some gaming. I have sync against weather and mail on and I'm in a place where the 3G coverage isn't great (I don't have access to GSM on my carrier so it's all 3G).
I'm happy with the battery life this far and it's possibly still improving.
Since I factory reset my device, the battery and even the GPS, seems to be better. I wouldn't say the GPS is adequate yet, but it's improving. Need to run some more tests.
But so far, 7 and a Half hours, and 30% battery, compared to 4 hours and 25% previously.
Update: We saw the discussion about the different markings on the battery (G7 on some units and G9 on ours) forming up so we decided to contact Samsung and see what all the fuss was about. It turns out that the hardware specifications of the G7 and G9 batteries are identical and those numbers are only used to identify regions

I'm agreeing with you! Am on 3G constantly (cos Android doesn't support WPA Enterprise) surfing and sending some emails for about 2 hours straight, the battery is completely flat!
I have just bought this phone 2 days back in India and my battery doesnt seem to be great, charged it fully 8 hours back, and its down to 37%, with 45 mins of voice call usage!! Will it get better with more charging as it is new?

Yes, it will improve after a number of charges. It's hard to say to what level though as people are reporting vastly different numbers and it's hard to say how much of that has to do with differences in use.
Well. Based on every other battery I've used(li-ion), it takes up to 5 full(or close to) charges to get the full length out of it. My laptop took 4 to get the max battery life.
