UK Orange Hero 2.1.

Hi folks i am just wondering as im not very technically minded, could someone please tell me if the 2.1 upgrade for my Hero which is on Orange in the UK is out yet ?

I have tried scouring the internet and all i seem to get is outdated google suggestions saying for orange its out on 16th April which was yestereday.

I went to HTC online and all that is there is a hero sync update? is this the 2.1?

Orange have only that link also.

If it is out could someone please post a link where i could get it from would be much appriciated.

There is also a ROM update that was released in Feb, you might need this update for the ever promised 2.1

Well as of last week I have been playing with the ROM from SenseHero 2.1 and the 2.1 v2 and to be frank the 2.1 isnt all that great. I say that only as the amount of times the unofficial date has moved I would have expected more.

Yes the market is much nicer
The speed is slightly better
The newer apps a bonus

But the helicopter view is impressive but I never us it.
Friends Stream - dont use as I like the facebook widget

Nothing new has happened to my devices that says "wow worth the wait". Oh got one bluetooth works for file transfer. Not a wow factor but someting I missed.

Another month is coming to an end, another month where we were led to believe we would see the 2.1 update for the UK Hero.

Another month where we are still stuck with 1.5.

We are supposed to be seeing 2 upgrades, the first preparing the phone and the second giving us 2.1.

I did for a few seconds see the Android Update icon on my status bar very early this month, but when I clicked it to download, there was nothing there and I was just taken to the Market.

First of all make sure that you have the right current version on your Hero in order to get the preparatory upgrade (shoud be version 2.73.405.5 (EU) for Europe).

If you have the right current version, then backup all your data on the phone and reset all settings, which will totally erase memory of your phone. Upon reboot the phone will ask you to set the setting like it did when you bought it and shortly after that a notification regarding ROM upgrade will pop up. Update and enjoy preparatory ROM, which actually almost the same.

Hopefully 2.1 will be rolling out soon.

Incorrect. The current Orange ROM build number is 2.73.65.66. The x.xx.405.xx builds are for generic (unbranded) handsets only and will not install on carrier-branded devices.

Hero 1.5 (orange branded). Attempted to upgrade to newest ROM (in expectation of 2.1 update) on Win XP sp3. Downloaded install file from HTC but Install file would not open. Message pops up

Now I am confused, my build is 2.73.61.5. Does that mean my phone needs an update before I can get the preparatory update, before the actual update?

I upgraded from 2.73.61.5. to 2.73.61.66 the other day and my battery lasts a helluva lot longer, it seems faster to use and the friends widget has larger photos. I am sure there are more differences but I haven't come across them yet. This is the update on the HTC website for orange peeps that apparently was released in Feb this year! I have only just stumbled upon it. I am assuming I have to receive another update to prepare for the big one? Hurrrrrrr. I know the date change doesn't work. I was going to de-brand but I won't now I have heard others doing same and wasting time.
