Froyo Sooner then we think?

I will be awaiting the release as well. I will root only if they charge for the WIFI Hotspot app. It would be nice to have in certain places. But if they give that to me for free, then I will finally root after owning my Droid since November.
they will charge for the wifi hotspot app since it's not even in the droid froyo release.

you guys shouldnt have waited so long to root, was super easy back in the 2.0 days. 1 update.zip and you had root. but now in 2.1 it's really not that hard either. you can basically install the recovery console with one update, no RSDlite required. man up lol

It isn't that I'm afraid of rooting. I am pretty tech savvy. It's just that I have had no need to root. With the way I use my Droid I don't need to root.

But thats the point. The speed is fine for me. And I like the classic, simple, clean look. Which is what I have now. No need to root for me.

A good reason to root is to get Froyo now (even without themes and customizations) rather than wait months for Verizon. Flash support and the Market auto updates alone are worth the price of admission, which incidentally is $0. :D

The only thing I really don't understand is the difference between "rom" and "kernel"?

Hmm...How to explain...

If you are familiar with PCs, I would say the Kernel is like a PC's Bios, while the Rom is like the operating system.

The kernel will allow you to do things like overclocking in the OS that would not otherwise be possible...

I have the simple clean look also, but it's with the latest Bugless Beast Froyo rom. Fast, smooth and with Flash for video and games. I've had the phone since day of release (my first smart phone) and have been rooted since the first Droidmod release a while back. Used the phone as a wifi hotspot last weekend to stream a Netflix movie to a netbook. Need I say more?

The Kernal handles all the low level functions. it's the Backbone to the ROM (think Operating System).

Like Linux, Windows, OS X. They all have kernals that the GUI's are built upon.

If you think of it as a Car. The Kernal might be the onboard CPU or Engine, the Body is the O.S. or Rom.

Just to say a little more...I don't use or download themes. On the surface my Droid looks completely stock. One of my screens is filled with root apps but all else is stock looking. But under the hood is a far superior operating system from that which is deemed official. I can run scripts that customize features or go with the dev's choices. Either way, my phone runs smoother, gets better battery life and is more reliable than it ever was in stock form. I encourage everyone to root and enjoy! There's no reason not too.

my droid is rooted w/ BB 0.3, my wife's droid is not rooted... after messing with her phone for 10 seconds, the difference is crystal clear.. mine is quicker and more responsive.. forget all the customization etc etc (which is awesome too).. the fact is my rooted droid owns her non-rooted droid... maybe i'll be a good husband and help her out w/ that soon =)

I promise this will be my last comment about root in this thread. Ok, I'm going to root! One question, if I want it to look as close to normal but I want to overclock what is the best rom to use? Preferably one with OC built in so I don't have to run any kernals.
Try Pete's new bugless beast 0.3 it looks almost stock with a kernal that is oc'd to 800mhz. Hope that helps. Ok back to the subject..
Has anyone received this or any screen shots been posted? Where did this rumor begin and is this gonna be 2.1 all over again? I heard from my sisters boyfriends uncles vest friend that they got But kind of deal?
