according to the site it says "see you soon" but honest the ten minute video is great if you download the pda net drivers for windows and get the pny card

Don't feel too bad, sadly there isn't much going on in the incredible root world yet. Rooting my phone almost feels empty because there aren't too many roms or themes out. Not being ungrateful to anyone but its true.

i agree, i've only tried one rom and it was the cyanogen test rom that isn't that great but wireless tethering as cool as it is you can do wired tethering even if you aren't rooted

I'm itching to root my Incredible but have decided to wait till a solid 2.2 rom comes out.
My phone works fantast as is, so I won't take the trouble until it's completely going to change the way my phone operates.

Assuming you'd still have the ability to root. I hope they don't send out some mass update that kills your chances. I think that's one of my reasons I rushed and rooted first day. Plus the Sense-less Ozzeh ROM isn't too shabby.

Oh, come on... the pursuit is the best part of the capture :D

Seriously, I don't think it CAN be made any easier. Not unless a completely different "hole" is found to allow access. The timing issues alone, combined with the differences between SD cards and for that matter computer speed, make a foolproof method impossible in my opinion. I spend my days in command prompt for a living, and I understand the process we're following... it's my educated opinion that holding out hope for an easier method is likely a waste of time. Again, not unless a completely different security hole is found in the boot process.

I hope I'm wrong, for the sake of everyone who hasn't gotten the published process to work. But I really don't think I am.

I personally don't like doing things "the easy way" because I like to learn what goes on in the process, however, I have been unable to root my phone trying the various methods shown and with the different drivers. I'll continue to try, but I'm also willing to try any "easier" methods that come along at this point since nothing else has seemed to work for me.

Let me say this, do not lose hope. It is very possible to obtain root, I've done it twice. The issue with waiting is you may not have another chance for a LONG time. I would expect VW to patch this hole, so if you can wait and don't mind not getting root, then by all means stick with stock.

my suggestion (because i was in the same boat as you, had ZERO luck until i did this) is to follow what was said at the bottom of page 3 / top of page 4 in the 10 min video thread.

- go to walmart and get the pny card
- put it in your phone, mount the phone as a disk drive and format it to FAT32, then FAT, then FAT32 again
- disconnect the phone, and then follow the 10 minute video from the beginning

i tried the 10 minute video at least 20 times last night, each time i could not get anywhere...after formatting the card with the procedure above, i got it literally the first time i typed adb shell (once the phone was on the red triangle screen).

this was using the hold down optical joystick and power at the same time method (the first method he shows in the video)...

How do you do this format? fat32? on the phone or on the computer?

the different cards increase the window but don't change the base conditions. I think its worth noting that the list of instructions on the original unrevoked site is different then it was a week ago. They use a few things which personally made me more comfortable which include reducing the need to yank the battery out when root doesn't work (ie you get the red exclamation point) but when you do the adb devices nothing shows up.

the newer method (no loop needed but try loop method first):
(turn off loop)
Start from the !triangle screen
Hit Power and volume up
Hit reboot and pop out sdcard
Wait for the white HTC Incredible screen then type
adb reboot recovery(keep entering this every 1-2 sec. till reboot)
until it reboots

Wait for the white HTC Incredible screen again
Soon as you see flicker on screen pop in sdcard
Wait for the !triangle screen and type
adb devices (don't rush this last step) let it sit for a few seconds after hitting the triangle screen)
If you see device listed with (recovery) next to it you have won the race! see the unrevoked post.

Agree, Wifi tether would be nice, but other than that I think im pretty much set for now...will wait for 2.2.

Agree as well, the reason I even know what custom roms and flashing mean is cause of messing around one windows mobile with my previous xv6800. On that we had to flash a rom to get GPS to work.

without messing around with that I would be alot more worried about trying this method, but just doesnt seem worth it at this point. Maybe I will try it if i get bored at some point.
