USB video out?

The droid incredible has the ability to use video out through a usb composite cable. This allows the screen to be viewable on a tv when doing anything as seen in this video YouTube - TV Output on DROID Incredible by HTC. I would prefer to use this as i don't have an HD tv, the micro Hdmi port only lets you export to a tv when using certain apps, and micro usb composite cables will probably be cheaper and easier to find. Does anyone who has an evo know if this will work?

Just heads up HDMI is just DVI (now standard digital monitor input/output) with Audio riding over it.. A DVI-Mail to HDMI female will work allowing you to plug your EVO into your Monitor... (same way I go from my computer back to my HDTV with DVI video card to HDMI input on TV) ... This doesn't fix which programs are allowed to output through HDMI but with a few words borrowed from apple/at&t.. i'm sure there will be a hack for that...

I seem to recall from the Evo dev. guide that HDMI output was determined on a per-application basis with a simple coding switch. Could be completely wrong, but that's what I recall.

You're right about that...

Sprint HTC EVO 4G Developer?s...

Wow, this is easier than I thought?

So like 20 lines of code and my app can output its UI (or part of) to the big screen? :D

Maybe I'm crazy but I see a market for a new dock. Hdmi out and usb to a keyboard and I could drop this phone in at home and it really could do all my daily computing tasks.

Although it's not perfect, I suggest you take a look at the Freedom Pro Keyboard. It syncs via SPP bluetooth and will also work when Android finally gets HID bluetooth.

My Evo has already replaced my laptop in most things. I'm using Docs to Go for spreadsheet and wordprocessing; native Calendar; it's fast internet connection; etc.

I did look at it. It's on the list if better (to me) doesn't come available.

Since I got the evo on launch day, I used my home laptop once...I'm not home much, and I'm quite comfortable with the use of the evo for what I need. I'll probably ditch the laptops and netbook, get a nice desktop for video editing, etc and have the evo for portability. I'm seriously thinking of one of those $100 android tablets for a complimentary toy.

You are thinking exactly the way Google intended and much to the chagrin and fear of the folks in Cupertino and Redmond. I think they saw this coming, I just don't think they saw the speed at which it was approaching and the voracious appetite of the consumer and the consumer's willingness to switch to something else. They just didn't see it coming like this.

It was bound to happen. I've been in IT almost 15 years. People give me the strangest looks when I tell them to buy the lowest spec computer when they ask me for advice on a personal use PC. The average person wants to check email , look at pictures, and surf the web.

I absolutely LOVE the possibilities I am seeing with the advances over the last year. Simple function is where it's at for 99.9% of the use needed. Make that fast, easy, and on multiple devices and you have a hit.

htcpedia.com finally got the droid inc tv-out cable in stock so I ordered one to try video out from the evo's usb port, and it doesn't fit in the evo's usb port FML:mad: ... so I'm about to play lets make a deal with the droid inc users to try to get some of my wasted $30 back... just a fyi to save you guys some moola, if you were thinking the cable might work....

so until someone hacks the hdmi port to work with slingbox, Im stuck wirelessly tethering my evo to my old htc touch pro to have slingbox play via my vehicle headunit :(
