I dropped my Droid on the garage floor... the back cover came off and the battery came out. I put it all back together and now the Droid won't turn on! When I try and power it on, there's a dim backlight, but that's it... almost doesn't even look like it's on, but if I take the batter out I can see the front light go completely black, so I can tell it was on. I tried calling my phone, but it goes directly into voice mail.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! :(

Thanks.

See what happens when you plug it into the wall with and without the battery in it. You can also try booting into recovery.

Since you're not apparently seeing anything rendered on the screen, it might be serious. The backlight coming on probably means that your battery is OK, but plugging it into the wall without the battery is a good idea just to see what happens.

Good luck

Oh man... I was just hoping there was something I could try.... maybe redropping it on the exact spot of the garage floor?

Not sure what dropping it again would do.

I'd just take it to Verizon and see if they'll give you a replacement (don't mention that you dropped it). Just say it's not turning on anymore. You might get lucky.

Had the exact same thing happen to me....dropped it onto a carpeted floor and then the screen would not come on...luckily I was familiar enough with it that I could navigate the phone part of it without having to see the screen and made it through the day until I could use another phone to call for a replacement. Go figure it started working again a few hours later....who knows.....all I can guess is that a ribbon was jarred partially loose and caused the problem.

Yeah just take it back and pretend you have no clue. It'll just become someone else's refurb headache down the road. No biggie.

I genuinely feel bad when I read about something that has happened to someone's Droid. I absolutely LOVE my Droid. I dropped it off the couch the other day and almost had an anuerysm right on the spot. It was such a stupid thing to do. I mean, it's not like I would ever drop my camera like that! Luckily it was fine, but it WAS MY OWN FAULT!
I have insurance. Insurance is for when shit happens, and ineveitably, shit does happen. I simply don't have any respect for anyone who won't take responsibility for their own actions.
It's not personal, man. I really do hope you get a new phone. It's definitely gotta suck. This is just one of those things about this forum that makes me pissed at the hypocrisy. Talk about a BlackDroid ROM, and all of the ROM dev fanbois come out of the woodwork to strut around on their moral high ground and say he's a theif.
Talk about screwing Motorola or Verizon out of a free Droid, and everybody clams up.
WTF?

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This is only my opinion.

Convert your plan to a family plan, take on the extra $10 a month for the extra line and use its upgrade to get you a new phone without fraud or lies.
Wouldn't this cost more than just buying one off a forum marketplace/ebay/craigslist? Like $10*24months + however much VZW is selling the droid for on a new 2 year contract?
I like the idea about throwing it up into the ceiling, makes sense....
@geoffsweb, did you end up getting a warranty replacement?

i had the same thing happen... but my kid threw my phone into the carpet. I called verizon and told them i stopped working. Just told them i didnt know wat happened. I goes under warranty so u dont need insurance. Verizon does not care since it a warranty issue and the problem goes toward Moto. My refurb was a dud, so im on my third droid with no complaints. Now since i have rooted to froyo i nulled my warranty but my kid never touches my phone anymore. Either way i have insurance.

So, since I'm the author of this thread, I figured I'd close it out with good news!

On Tuesday, 2 days after the phone was dropped, I planned on stopping into a Verizon Corporate store and seeing if I could talk my way into a new phone, since the phone has stopped working and it should be covered under the 1 yr warranty.

In the morning, I had an out of the office meeting. So I left my phone in the car, since it didn't work, I had no need for it. After the 3 hour meeting, I drove to a nearby store. I walked in with the phone in hand. I gave it to the girl, as I did the touch screen check in. Out of the corner of my eye, I see my Droid on and her messing with it. She asks me why it's so hot, and I tell her it's been in my car for a few hours. She tells me that's a bad thing to do, and could be why my phone wasn't working, if I do stuff like that to it. I look at her and say "my phone is working?!!!" She looks at me like I'm an idiot, and says yes.

I have no clue how/why it started up for her and not for me and the 500 times I tried in 3 days. The only thing I can think of is the hot air it sat in for 3 hours. That's the only different enviroment it had been in for the previous 3 days. I really have no clue, nor care now.... my DROID is ALIVE!!

Thanks.
I dropped my samsung galexy phone on the wood floor by accident and my back cover came off and my battery came out to. And when I put it all back together and pressed the power botton my phone would not turn on the screen just stayed black. Then I saw that the bottom was popped up so my mom pushed it back together and when we pressed the power botton again it still didn't turn on the screen was still black. Then my mom saw that one of the gold thing that make conection the the battery was pointing up so she pushed it back down and pressed the power botton again and it still didn't turn on the screen was still black. I don't know why it won't turn on what should I do?
