Which is better i am wondering, they both run in backround constantly but i prefer their setup/ ui to Barcode scanner's.
Need to uninstall one of them but can't decide. I use cnet on pc all the time for tech reviews so i'm more inclined to that one but it seems shop savvy has been aroung much longer / more popular. What are everyone's experiences with them?

Alex here from Big in Japan. We are the company that built and runs BOTH the original ShopSavvy app as well as the CNET Scan and Shop app. For now I think it is a toss up. If you like the CNET reviews I would keep the CNET app for now. There is a major update coming this summer in ShopSavvy that you won't want to miss - so if you uninstall ShopSavvy keep checking our blog for the new release so you can check it out. With regard to the background process - both apps are listening for other apps to find your location. They use this when you open the app to scan an item. It takes Android a while to determine your location and without a good location we can't deliver local inventory and pricing. The good news is that the way Android is architected these 'processes' don't consume any battery life. Actually, they save battery life because they allow apps to cooperate. If your twitter app finds your location it can share it with ShopSavvy and vice versa. Apple just implemented this sort of cooperation/multitasking in iOS4.

Thank for the reply. First off let me just say that i'm not complaining at all. Love both the apps and its cool they are always running(i guess). Thing is if i have no social apps then i deff dont want both running all the time..... so one has got to go, Think i'm partial to cnet currently though, what's the update for shop savvy gonna address, if you can say.

ps: still interested in what others have to say about both (and even barcode scanner)

The updates in ShopSavvy relate to coupons, rebates and instant payments. Both apps use our product system - i.e. 20,000+ retailers with more than 20,000,000 products.

The Barcode Scanner only uses Google - which ShopSavvy and CNET ALSO include, but combined with LOTS of great data that isn't in Google's shopping system. Hands down - ShopSavvy and CNET win the day over Barcode Scanner.

I have used both and keep Shop Savvy over Cnet. According to my battery usage it uses no battery running in the background and the froyo memory usage says it is using no memory so I would not worry about the app running in the background. It isn't using any resources and the Android OS can handle it's own when it comes to killing tasks and allocating memory.

Shop Savvy has helped me save cash, my wife uses when shopping if the price of an item seems expensive.
