From what I've found, Verizon has kicked the bucket with the Droid Eris. Phandroid has called it extinct, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's apparently on the list that Verizon puts it's obsolete phones. This means no 2.2 for Eris.
For goodness sakes, doesn't anyone care about the penguins.
If you like your phone, then like it. Don't worry about when it will receive 2.2, 2.3, or 5.6. It can't get the latest updates indefinitely.
At some point the Eris will reach the end of life, and Verizon and HTC will be forced to discontinue the updates.
Who cares about 2.2. We have everything with 2.1 that the Eris is capable of providing.
I guess I should drive my 2007 Tacoma into a lake because it's "obsolete" now.
even though i'm getting the incredible in 2yrs when they produce a few, i think the eris is just fine. hell, i was in the local store tonight and they still have env2's, 3's, touch's and other model T's. still don't get why they eol'd the eris. i mean, h/w wise and all, the ally is no better. i have a feeling htc is the one pushing(or have pushed it) off the shelves. maybe htc just wants to be regarded as the very high end phone manufacturer. i mean, my daughter had a broken env touch that she refused to get rid of. i showed her the eris and she forgot all about her beloved touch. then my other daughter jumped in too when she saw it. got them for free, so why not. they were well over the new 25mb limit anyway, so they might as well have a more worthy phone if im gonna pay for the data anyway.
point is, everything being relative, its not eol'd to most people that have touched one. just a business decision by idiots with power. so i'm with most here, just keep liking it. when your new every 2 comes, grab an incredible. they might be shipping some by then.
By the time my 2 year contract ends, I hope Verizon will start pushing 4G devices.
Really? I got my eris for free from Best Buy in March
And it will be functioning fine next March, if you take good care of it.
I don't doubt that, I was just surprised that Best Buy was charging for it now.

It's a good phone. Most people just don't care about getting a new phone every 3 months, and paying full price because they have to have the latest and greatest.
I'm amazed at the number of people on here who do nothing but whine about how they haven't gotten the latest OTA update, rooters, and all the like....my goodness, people, it's just a cell phone! (That being said, I am a bit of a gadget 'queen').
