Huge delay when returning to home screen on android 2.1 ?

Not sure if this is it but try

menu -> settings > Text-to-speech

then select to install voice data.

I did this and it seems to have done the trick for me

For some reason HTC haven't put the speech to text files on the hero update. However there is an app in the market called "Uber keyboard" that installs the required files and puts an option to use speech to text on pretty much anything you would normally type in (email, text messages, twitter... etc)

It's a handy app, you can try it for free for about 7 days or something, but if it does what you want i think the full version is under $2 anyway. Which would have seemed like a bargain if you didn't already know that it should have been on there for free. Haha

Isn't "Text-to-speech" the exact opposite, i.e. an audible text reader for the visually impaired?

Android 2.1 installed on hero,everything are nice & smooth except returning to home screen,when i push home button,most of the time takes up to 30-45 second to return to home screen,on android 1.5 it was almost immediately,have you face this problem too ?
I guess,"just guess !" ,android 2.1 acts in some way very differently,when i check my running app with task manager,the number of running apps are much less then i used to see on android 1.5,is 2.1 shut down non active app automaticly before returning to home screen & is this the reason for this considerable delay each time i want to return to home, any thought on this subject?

I've been using 2.1 for 3 days now and I can't say that I've noticed any lag at all in returning to the home screen. In fact the whole system seems to have a lot less lag than before.

Is there any possibility that a rogue faulty app could be causing a problem? Do you have any apps now installed that you were not using previously on 1.5?

Can absolutely not recall any problems as described above - mine is reacting promptly and phone is much faster than before - returning to homescreen - it does at the spot , no lags at all in any way - it is now as i suspect such a phone to react!
