Android Emoticons for SMS'

So this may be a weird question but I recently received a text message with the android smiley face instead of the normal text ones. It only happened to the one message. Does anyone know how to send them in the native Evo messaging program to show up like that or how to receive them like that? For some reason I cannot duplicate it.

I've noticed that Android will only replace the text emoticons with the android ones when the text is the "full" emoticon. For instance; :) will be replaced with
happy.gif
but taking out the "dash" :) will not. The "shortened" text emoticons will not generate an android replacement. It appears it is exactly the opposite here on the forum.

Perhaps that is what you are seeing. Someone sent you a text and used the full smiley...

Code:
:-) gets you a droid smiley but :) does not

i believe they have to be both android phones. as far as having to do the full emotican just pick which one u want, when texting press menu, press more, insert smiley. again from what i understand it must be an android phone otherwise it comes out normal.

If an iPhone user sends me a txt and uses the full emoticon text ie: with the "nose" it will appear TO ME as the Droid guy. If an Android user sends me a txt but uses the short emoticon
text it will not appear as the Droid guy.

Try it yourself. Send yourself a text and use both full and short versions and see what happens.

I did, and only the full smiley showed up as the Droid guy; the short one was just the text. Which seems odd to me since the ones one the 2/2 number board are the short smilies without noses...
