Accessories DIY Bicycle Mount

So i've been wanting to use my EVO on my bicycle for directions because i moved to a new town and am horrible with directions :p I've searched around but couldn't find anything except crappy universal bicycle mounts (the kinds with the clamps or just a bag with a window in it...) so i decided to make my own :D

i started by getting http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Incredible-HD2-EVO-WaterProof-MotorCycle-Bike-Mount-/220615081500?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335daefe1c#ht_3065wt_1137 one of those and a body glove evo case from sprint.

as you can see, the universal case sucks. the only thing holding the evo in place were these mats

so decided to get rid of them in a proper fashion

and rip out the pieces that hold the bike mount attachment to the actual handlebars

after taking that out i drilled holes into the body glove case and attached the holder. attach a little duct tape to protect the back of my lovely evo

and we're done :D

Very nice. I made a DIY holder this weekend too using a Bracketron system. I like yours also. I am disappointed that the screen is so weak in direct sunlight...that kind of shot down the "bike computer" idea. That one on EBAY looks like it would work. Hong Kong? Last time I ordered some watch batteries from a seller in Hong Kong my AMEX took a $1,500 ride without me at the wheel.

Just sayin' ;)

I ordered a ebay hong kong special ($6.50 shipped)... I just did a quick ride with it, and I'm very pleased with it... I would definitely recommend it... The Evo, bike mount, BT headphones, and the my tracks google app = = great riding...

:edit: for some reason my ebay links get screwed up so just search for item # 150473767778

I decided to make my own mount since the mounts on ebay look way to cheep or to bulky and suffocating and if mine fails I can only be mad at myself. Everything for the mount cost about $15 and was purchased at Micheal's (the craft store). But I'm assuming the stuff can be found at any of the same type of stores. I used 2 rectangle pieces of wood that were just slightly bigger then the EVO. Some industrial strength velcro, some 1/8" foam (sticky on 1 side), epoxy and a clear case bought off ebay. 1st I held one piece of wood over my stem and handle bars and made some rough marks of were to cut out slots to feed the velcro through. The wood I bought was pretty easy to cut through using a razor knife with a fresh blade. After making the slots I put some strips of velcro through to do a rough fit to make sure it fit the stem/bars. 2nd I took the 2nd piece of wood and traced out where the velcro was sitting on the back side of the 1st piece of wood. I did this so the velcro would be recessed allowing for a better bonding surface between the plastic case and the wood. Once I got the 2 wood pieces fitting together I epoxyed them together and clamped them in place for a hour to get a nice tight bond. Next I took the plastic case and sanded the back side to get a rough surface to make a better bong between wood and plastic, then epoxyed the case to the wood and used some small clamps to get a tight bond once again. Lastly i put foam on the bottom side to dampen vibrations and protect the stem and bars from getting scratched. When I ride with the EVO mounted in the plastic case I also put a piece of tape down each side of the case so the top cover doesn't randomly pop off and through my phone to the pavement. Sorry about the sloppy directions, it was a pull it out of my brain as you go project.

I would not trust any mount that doesn't actually secure the entire phone to a mount. These clips and clamps are a BAD idea. Hit a bump right and your expensive phone WILL jettison (this I know from experience). I keep it in a leather holster on my waist and use bluetooth for pandora. MyTracks runs. I don't need to see the display while I'm riding so its fine. If you need the map up on the display, you need a very secure mount.
