Large Data Transfers at weird times??

We have an HTC droid and we have unlimited data plans.. but I was just looking over the data usage and noticed most data is only like 400 KB or less.. probably checking email and whatnot. But there are these random ones.. that are like 3000 KB at around 5, 5:30, 5:50AM and even like 2AM, when I know for a fact we are all sleeping.. and then also there were a couple over the past couple days for around 2500 and 3000 at odd times when I knew we weren't on our phone.. what's weird is I know we looked at a couple youtube videos, which might make them that large, but the times it showed we used the 2500 and 3000 were way off of the times we viewed the youtube videos.. I don't know if the timing could be off or something? But what would cause these random larger than normal data transfers at odd times? Is it updates? or what? Anyone else seen this?

I know they aren't horribly large transfers.. but large enough for me to wonder what would be causing it at odd times.. and with the youtube videos could the time just be off? On our other phone t hey are all in sync.. but that phone is an env touch. I know the droid is different.. with lots of apps and updates and stuff. So I'm just looking for some clarification on this! Any help would be awesome!! Thanks so much!

I've got a buddy at work that has his phone schedule automatic downloads of podcasts very early in the morning (so he doesn't have to wait for them and they are ready and waiting for him to listen to on the way to work). You might want to check for things like this that are doing auto-scheduled / auto-downloading type things.

we don't have anything like podcasts that download on a regular basis.. there are a few apps on it.. but nothing like that.. and all the times this is happening are random.. never the same time. And it's not every morning around 5ish.. just a couple of times I see it.. the the ones during the day the past couple of days.. that make me wonder if the timing is just off.

Chances are your phone is just syncing up to your different accounts. Checking your e-mail, facebook, twitter, whatever you happen to have. It could also be updating widget information (if you have updating widgets like news).

Would that kind of stuff take 3000 KB? Is a widget like the weather program on the phone? Does it do all of this syncing at one time or something?

Is it possible the times were off on the you tube? Or does the droid group it all together?

3mb really isn't much data. I wouldn't be concerned with it really. There are a lot of apps and features on these devices that can consume data. If it's really a concern you may want to turn off your data connections (Both WiFi and Mobile Network) when you go to bed.

Which apps and widgets use the most data? What would cause the random ones during the day? Would it be the same thing? Updates and stuff?

The weather app could be pulling down new info, any news apps could be updating. It could literally be any number of things.

But if it's only doing 3mb here and there, as long as you're not near your 5gb cap I wouldn't really worry about it.
