Changed from Permissions app to LBE privacy manager. It's a lot better because you can see when the app is requesting things. In particular I find google maps requesting my position when I'm not using it, which I don't like for battery when latitude is switched off and no connectivity, so I learnt something there.
The app is fring. Decide for yourself, would allow it?

I don't need it reading my SMS. All the other stuff can be justifiable but basically what is on offer here is complete carte-blanche to my phone, which in turn means my whole online (and via sensors, mic and cam) offline presence. Bear in mind fring also runs a battery draining service so can get access to you at any time (wakelocks urgently need to be addressed for the less knowledgeable user... something in line with the liberal app policy rather than a wakelock curfew would be good)
I need the app to call people who have phones that run a different version of Fring.
With LBE I've locked it down and I can still use it without crashing... so far, result! And very strangely killing the service doesn't affected it as far as I can see too.
There's more and more apps coming through that use a load of things... kind of overly complicated.
It's all nothing to worry about until you need it to receive your wage or some other pricey thing, be it cash or socialness.
