Help Loose keyboard slid open accidentally, screen went black, now phone is dead. HELP!

(I know this is a long post, so I bolded the important part if you just want to skip there.) ;)

So let me start off by saying that I NEVER use the physical keyboard on my Droid, and I've been looking since I got it in November for a case that would disable the keyboard slide out.

Despite the fact that I NEVER EVER use the keyboard, like other people, I've been having the issue of my keyboard getting progressively more loose.

The other day, I was handing my phone to my boyfriend to look at something, and the keyboard slid open, causing me to lose my grip on the phone. The phone dropped LITERALLY no more than four inches, and didn't really drop--it more slid down onto my backpack that I had sitting inbetween my boyfriend and I (we were sitting waiting for a bus.) The phone itself didn't fall, and the only concussion it sustained was from the keyboard sliding out rapidly (not from slipping onto my backpack.) I SWEAR it didn't fall onto a hard surface. In fact, I've dropped it onto a hard surface and it worked fine--this is the first problem I've ever had like this with it.

The screen went black, and nothing (no battery pulls or anything) will induce my phone to turn back on. We tried swapping out batteries between his Droid and mine, and that didn't work either. The lights on the front don't turn on, and the keypad doesn't turn on when I slide that open. The charging light, however, does come on when I plug it in.

Here's the big problem. Normally I'd just take it back to the Verizon store, but I'm in Europe, I've been here for a month, and I won't be back in the states for another month, so I can't go back to the Verizon store. I can't use my phone as a cell phone, but I have Fring set up to use it as a Skype phone, and it's been INDISPENSABLE for everything else--email, navigation, translation, etc.

Anyone have ANY idea what's wrong with it or how to fix it? Right now I'm using my boyfriend's phone and he's using his iPod Touch, but he much prefers his Droid and wants it back.

Sorry this got so long... anyone have any advice? Please??
