Root Why don't you want to root your phone?

Just out of curoisity. I was a bit hesitant at first, the last phone i had was a 5 year old lg phone. So i came from that to something like the evo 4g. I used
the 3 step root process that can be found [Program] SimpleRoot .1 ---- 3 Click Root w/ nand unlock!! - xda-developers

This took around a half hour. After that I just flashed fresh .5. Its so much faster than the stock version of the phone and less bloat ware. Whatever you do need that not installed is put on the sd card anyway.

I'm sure there are benefits to it, but the risk of messing up my phone + the potential loss of a warranty outweigh any of the benefits that might appeal to me specifically.

I'm guessing the root subforum is for people who are actually interested in rooting. Am I wrong for asking this general question in the general forum? Or do you mean a different one of the other sub forums?

Posting it here is just fine. Most people who dont/wont root wont even look in the root subforum. You are reaching your target audience.

Personally, I'll root likely when the official updates stop comming, OR when the (minor) problems are corrected by third party developers.

Getting ready to root a Hero as the official 2.1 has pretty much killed its usability. No more major updates likely comming for that one.

I honestly just haven't run across any scenario whereby I would want to root. My phone runs well, I haven't run across any root necessary apps I want, I just don't need the hassle.

I did finally break down and root my hero after a while and I really want to root my EVO but it seems like there are a few issues right now.

1. Still getting sprint updates
2. I want to make sure my phone doesn't need to be returned, already have an issue with HTC sense randomly stops responding that nobody seems to know anything about.
3. I'm not really sure how stable these ROMs are yet, I only used aloysius on my Hero which was a theme rom that I liked aside from having like NO internal memory.
I know everyone loves Fresh but don't kow enough about how it runs/looks to justify taking the risk for.

I definitely will root eventually, just not sure when.

I actually have Aloysius over my Fresh .5. So colorful . But yea, fresh is great. As soon as I booted it up I noticed how much smoother and quick it was than stock

From what I get in order to get a good themed ROM liek aloysius, it will have to be de-oxed and result in a big hit on internal memory, which sucks because that's the type of ROMS I root for.

I know fresh is apparently great for performance, but I'm not getting bad performance with stock right now aside from one issue....which I may or may not have on a rooted ROM.

So it's really a risk vs reward thing for me right now.

with the coming of Froyo 2.2 and android being open source, why would anyone want to root and run the risk of an unstable phone? Seriously, I have an Evo and with all these apps, growing on a daily basis and hacks such as launchpro and so on, why would I want to root?

I understand people jail braking an iphone due to its close platform but never understood android roots.

Can you elaborate on it a little bit, any info would be great. Battery life, speed, free memory( I prolly won't use apps2sd) What kinda of stock apps/bloatware did he remove...does everything work as if it was stock?

I'm looking into the easy root method and if it still works, I may root the easy way...other way is just too much blah for me right now

Phone was rooted but I went and did the official update that broke my root. Haven't gotten around to rooting again. Might to try out a custom Rom this time.

My old HTC diamond was rooted and I flashed some 20 different roms to it.

Pretty much my sentiment. Until I have a reason that satisfies me enough to make the leap into rooting, I won't do it. I'm happy with my EVO the way it is right now.

Can't comment much of the battery yet since I just flashed it yesterday. I will post back a bit later just to give you at least an impression on what to expect.

Speed wise everything is just more snappier and its easily noticeable. I literary noticed it in the first 10 seconds.

In terms of bloatware everything from sprint is removed besides sprint tv. All the bloatware can be found on the sd card though and all you have to do is install the atk from the sdcard (just find it in explorer and install). Just a hour ago I noticed he didn't include voice search, so I just went into the explorer and installed it.

The only possible problem I could have is that 4g keeps connecting and reconnecting. So I'm reading up on the whole radio scene. I barely had 1 bar in the apt before I even rooted so its not like it totally killed it. Almost everywhere I go doesn't have 4g coverage yet so I can't really say much.

Atm you can't root if you have the ota update. If you have it, you need to wait .

Anyway just look into it if you're interested. It honestly was painless and this was my first time doing something like this.

I am to broke to root my phone. I can't afford to pay for a phone twice just in case I brick it. Lol

I could buy another one, but I feel I have the best of both worlds. Rev 3 with Nova screen and don't want to mess it up in case I do something wrong. I also don't want the hassle of if something happens and I need to have the phone serviced or replaced, ending up with the bunch of flack over warranty.

I'm going to hold tight for FROYO and to see how HTC handles the Camera and FPS issues. They have till the end of August.
