4th Eris - Chances of upgrade from verizon?

I want to preface all of the following by stating I love the Eris. The only reason I didn't buy an Incredible at full price was because of the nice form factor. I love the hardware buttons for end and send.
______

I"m now on my 4th phone. 1st had a trackball issue, had it replaced at the store the following day. The 2nd had a bad GPS chip (that's what they explained it as). It said I was in Florida, Alaska, and California when I was actually in Dallas. The 3rd had dialer lag issues. (I'm guessing this is common as my roommates has it as well). When placing a call, dialed or from a contact, it will sometimes take 2-5 minutes to actually load the calling app and place the call. I just received my 4th phone Tuesday, activated it yesterday, and today at work it decides to do the same lagging when making a call.

I was standing out front of an office trying to get the location of my work order from a coworker. It took about 3.5 minutes to finally attempt to make the call. My new Eris barely has any applications installed as well. (Google Voice and Timeriffic is pretty much it) It happens way to frequently to be a signal issue. It happens at different times and in different places (I work for a school district across 4 cities so I travel between them a lot) I have to make a lot of important phone calls, sometimes time sensitive, and if it takes this much time to place one call then I can't do my job.

Anyone have any advice, I'm now wanting to try a different phone. I would love another Eris, but I doubt it will work the way it should. Anyone know the policies about these types of cases?

most likely they will let you upgrade to an Incredible or Droid at the upgrade price. I don't see them giving you a better phone for free. But who knows? If you plead your case well, find the right customer service rep and remain calm and nice thru out the entire exchange - who knows what could happen?

report back on what they say. and good luck.

My replacement has dialer lag as well. It is particularly troublesome when i have just made a call and i try to call someone else because it can take up to 10 seconds for the most recent call to update to the dialer, and when it does it sometimes calls the wrong person.

As well when you go to answer a call half the time it hangs up while the phone is trying to swipe down to answer it.

The dialer is now my only real issue with my eris since i installed the droid x keypad.

gpa111: I've seen those issues as well. As a matter of fact, when I was trying to place that call to my coworker it did actually call my roommate first (after about 20 seconds) so add that time into the total amount of time wasted trying to make a call.

I usually answer with the Send button instead of swiping on the screen but I have had a few missed calls because of it. Nearly all of my missed calls are because I'm trying to use my phone at that given time (they call right as I push the end button to activate the screen to unlock it).

Should I try and call Verizon or go into the store? There is a store nearby with friendly technicians but I'm not sure about the manager as I've never dealt with her. I assume something like this would have to go through her.

Wait until you install the new update thats being rolled out.
Talking to a manager and convincing them to give you another phone will not really fix the problem, and before you know it you'll be on your 10th phone and claim there is some type of conspiracy going on.

Just wait for the update, install it and do a factory reset and see how things go from there.

If you're looking for a free replacement, they'll either give you another Eris or a "comparable" device. That probably means a low-end Blackberry or something. They may offer to let you upgrade to the Incredible for $199 or something, but that's less likely.

not sure but i would hope that verizon would offer a comparable android headset ... i understand the concept in reg. feature phones but there is a big difference in smartphone OSes ... i guess a comparable android would be either the inc. (most likely with some kind if additional charges considering the price difference) or maybe a devour but some might not accept it with moto blur...

They won't give you an Incredible, especially considering they are out of stock. If you staunchly refused to take another Eris, they would more than likely offer a Droid to you at the 2 year contract price which is like $80 now. You won't get another phone free, besides an Eris, unless you run into an extremely nice CSR.

It really depends on who you speak with. I had an issue with a Palm Pixi Plus, where I went through 5 phones in the span of two week. Many people I spoke with would not let me have a replacement stating that they no longer do that. I still kept calling in, and luckily enough I found someone who let me upgrade to a Palm Pre Plus without paying the different, which was like $50.00 at the time. I really didn't want another Palm phone but thats all they offered me. Then again my bill is $250.00 a month so that helped me out as well.

Don't be suprised if they do this, and offer you something closer to the price range of the Eris when it was for sale, something like a Devour, or a Ally. Another thing, don't push them to give you a more expensive phone.

..I love the Eris..

I'm now on my 4th phone.

You're a patient and loyal person; if I had purchased a new item, no matter what it was, and found it shoddy and then found three replacements in the same condition, there is no way I would remain loyal to that particular brand or model of the product.

I would have moved on to something else long since.

However, having said that, I do know one thing: if a customer is firmly but kindly insistent about what it takes to remedy a situation such as that, a high percentage of the time that customer will prevail, even against written policies and the usual manner in which companies deal with such issues.

I had a problem with my BB Storm and after 9 replacement, I told Verizon I quit as soon as my billing cycle was over I am done with them. I then asked to speak to someone higher than the people in tech support and I was told that they would call me back in 24 to 48 hr. When I did not hear from him, I called back and told them that if I did not hear from someone by the end of business, I would be ending my service. 20 mins later a DP, who is over the tech support calling centers called and ask what he could do to keep my at Verizon and I told him I wanted a working phone. This is how I go the Eris...But now problems with this phone...So if you request to talk to people higher up you such get some real help. Hope this helps..

I went into the store and spoke to them about the problem. The Technician suggested I wait until the new OTA patch comes as on their internal forums there is a post about dialer lag possibly being fixed in it. Since I like my eris I agreed but told him I'd be back if it didn't fix the problem. We did talk about upgrading to the Incredible but he said he couldn't "justify" it until we test the patch.

So we'll see what happens...I hope that OTA patch comes quick cause I'm ready to get my phone working again.

Another new issue to add to my troubles.. Called my brother earlier today, it vibrated like it connected but it never rang or anything. I spoke to my brother later in the day and he said he got the call, picked it up and heard nothing. So...my speaker and mic didn't even turn on when I called him. I tried a few times and finally restarted my phone and it seems to have fixed it....who knows how often it will happen now though.

I'm planning on calling VZW CS tomorrow as this is getting old. I'm unsure if the stores are open tomorrow but maybe I'll go up there as well.
