Will No Flash Be An Issue taking pics in low light?

So I'm reading conflicting info. Obviously the t-mobile version named Samsung Vibrant, will not have a flash for the camera.

That seems like a problem to me. However, some people in different forums are saying the Samsung Vibrant has some special night vision, or something like that, that makes a flash abosultely not necessary.

I have no idea what this night vision is, but I don't want my pics looking green, like night vision cameras usually do.

Also, if the Samsung Vibrant has this special night vision ability, making a flash not necessary, why would the Samsung Galaxy shipping to other carriers have a flash. Just seems so silly to me, if the phones have night vision, then all carriers shouldn't get a flash, if the logic is that a flash is no longer needed.

I don't know why T-mobile accepted a no flash Android phone. What the heck.

Can someone guarantee that a flash is no longer needed for night/low light settings?

Well let's put it this way

No wonder they didn't include a flash !!! - xda-developers

So you took the second pic in dim lights with your Vibrant? what mode did you set it to.

Do you mind doing a real test, like taking it to a bar or club, and taking pics inside a club where it's really dark, wondering if taking pics of your friends inside a bar/club with only candles on mood lighting would show up.

I have a feeling it won't work well, seems like it it just taking whatever light and trying to amplify it, but if you are inside a club at night, and the only lights are mood lights and candles lit, I dunno how well it would lighten up. And yes, before you people ask, many clubs and high end bars in los angeles are sometimes lit with only candles and indoor fireplaces, with only lights on the dance floor, or bar area.

Mind taking a pic in this kind of environment?

thanks!

please read the last line lol I took those images from that thread at xda, I didn't take the pictures myself, but there are alot more examples in that thread, they were all taken with the euro galaxy S which is already out and also does not have a flash.

Someone recorded the Samsung press conference that happened earlier this week on a regular Galaxy S. It's on youtube somewhere. It looked fine and normal. I'm sure the camera will be the same and in my experience, the LED light doesn't help much at all unless you are taking close shots (but even at close shots, it's just not worth it).

@HTCevolemon.....what is your deal? You have started or have been apart of every vibrant thread on here and in everyone you have some sort of problem with the phone. And every question you have asked can be easily answered if you just did a little research ;)

I do not own the phone to have problems with it. I'm simply wondering how this phone takes pics at night, since many of the pics I take are at night during social events in dark settings. I Also asked a gingerbread question, big deal.

just go here and look through the forum till you're content with what you see. I should say IF you're content :)

Samsung Galaxy S User photo and video samples

I happen to think that it takes amazing photos and video even in low light. In darkness, even with a flash most pics come out weird looking anyway..

Thanks for that link. I actually went to that samsung forum, a user on that forum who already has the phone says it will not take good photos in the dark without a flash.

How does night mode not cut it? have you seen the night mode pics this thing produced?

The night mode pictures on this camera suck...bad. They are extremely grainy/blurry and look like they were taken with a 12 year old cheap digital camera. The pictures in this thread are proof of that. Let's face it, there is NO good reason why Samsung couldn't have put a decent led flash on this phone. Even my crappy old Motorola Cliq XT had an awesome flash on it.

Like was said above, everyone has their cameras with them at night at a club, etc. Very few people are going to have a digital camera with them because of all the extra weight/bulk. It's in this environment that a cell phone with a flash truly shines. The night mode on this phone also requires extreme steadiness when taking a picture, and that's when taking a picture of an object that's not moving. I think a picture of a person in a club at night is going to turn out awful with this phone.
