So despite the GPS glitches I experienced with my first Moment, this second unit is really impressing me. Everyday I grow to like it even more and I can't believe I almost traded it for a Hero!

I love the solid build and the ability to customize the phone.

I love the physical keyboard but also having the option of a virtual keyboard.

I love the thousands of available apps.

I love having a video recorder and camera in one.

I love the AMOLED screen.

And most of all... I love that I only pay $70 a month for unlimited data, unlimited text and unlimited calls to other mobile lines. :D:D:D

Feel free to add your own loves. <3

Ps. I had a Pre before this and the Moment is ten times better.

Pps. I was paying $100/month for a similar plan on ATT for the iPhone back when there was no MMS.

Ppps. I <3 MMS.

Ps. I had a Pre before this and the Moment is ten times better.

.

I had a pre as well, while I miss the cards system, the rough feel of the os, and the lackluster build quality of the pre has me loving the sold phone that is the moment.

A buddy of mine that had a fuze and now has the 3gs commented on how solid the device felt "way better than the fuze" he said.

So far so good...... I WANT MY ECLAIR!

X2,

I'm wondering when someone will come up with a Open Home skin or another Home Screen replacement/overlay that will emulate it.

That would be the final nail in Palm's coffin!

I've got to agree with everyone here. The longer I have my Moment the more I LOVE it. This is my first android powered phone but I love the capabilities I've got now. The most important part for me is I can customize it on the fly. I tend to get bored with the same backgrounds and ringtones and now I can seemlessly change them. MOST importantly FOR FREE! lol

I am in with the lovers. I really loved my Hero for the first 3 weeks I had it, and agonized over trading it in for the moment so I could have a keyboard.

Could not be happier now.

The first week was kinda ruff, but as I have gotten to know the phone it really is an excellent machine.

Getting a working GPS was key.

Getting a working GPS was key.

So, are you saying your GPS is WORKING?

Just wondering... I love my Moment too but I sure do wish the GPS function worked consistently. Out of the 10x I've tried to use Sprint Navigation or Google Maps, it's placed me correctly at my existing location once. But if someone figured out how to get it to work ALL the time, I'd like to know....

i concur with this. the phone feels great, looks great, runs great except the GPS and location features. the location feature always puts me in either Nairobi, Kenya, or UK and I'm in NY, USA. I really hope there is a way to fix this huge problem.

i was already satisfied with my moment. i owned the hero for 28 days and i am so glad i made the switch. last night something happened that took my love of the Moment to the next level. ill never look at the phone the same way again. i installed SNES emulator and was playing donkey kong , mario kart, super mario , yoshi story FULL SPEED. i did not really think that was possible. Along with the physical keyboard its just perfect. you guys REALLY REALLY REALLY have to try it out!!! id like to make a thread about this so more people try it if they havent yet , its really bad ass!!:D

GO SNES!

This is the most solid feeling phone I've ever had, coming from a HTC (for years) background. Love the interface.
Did have some GPS problems, and here is what solved them:
1. The day I brought the phone home, the GPS did not work, so I called CS, who directed me to re-enter the MSID and MDN, and cycle the phone, then turn location off, cycle the phone, then turn location on. GPS then worked,..... BUT.
2. Last night GPS was not working again, so I called CS again, and she made many notes (AND TOLD ME NEW UPDATES WOULD BE PUSHED OUT WITHIN 52 HOURS, POSSIBLY 1.6  , we'll see) and suggested that I hard reset my phone. I thought I would have to find and download all my apps again, but was told that the market keeps track of my apps, so it was easy and contacts are already on gmail. I did NOT reset my phone then because I didn't have another line to talk to her at the time. We made an appointment for her to call me at my home when I got there (which she kept to the minute!)
But before I left work, I checked the market to be sure that I could DL again easily. I've only had my phone a few days, but there were already updates for about 7 of my apps! I updated all of them, and afterwords, like magic, GPS worked again. Did not reset my phone or do anything else, gps just worked.
So, there must be a conflict in some popular app that needed to be updated. GPS is still working this morning.
SO: go to the market, hit "my downloads," and update the ones that show that updates are available, and see if that works for you!

Ditto here too. Going on 2 wks with the Moment. I'm coming from a Treo 755.

WiFi was a total deal breaker. I gotta have WiFi. Makes the internet on a phone usable. The rest has been icing on a cake.

No issues with GPS here. In fact, with Google Maps I get real time updates - actual icon of position moves as I move in real time.

Got a bunch of updates from the apps I've downloaded this morning, so People check your Android Market "My Downloads" for updates!

Doesn't hurt to go into Settings -> System Updates -> and run the three updates occaisionally. Sometimes Sprint pushes updates to phones, but this smartphone seems to have received a very generic build of Android, so it may not have automatic updates setup by Sprint...yet. (I've actually received a Profile Update from Sprint Technical Services the 3rd day I had the phone - make sure you call them first and ask).

thanks for the detailed information! just few questions though.

what was the extent of your gps/location problems before it was resolved?

Were your location settings putting you in different countries as well?
How off was your GPS before it's been fixed?

My GPS was not working at all. The position reported by Sprint Navigation was on the east coast around Virginia, but if you look at the whole map, the icon was in the middle of the map and never moved, so that leads me to believe that there was no data being read from the GPS port.
I DL'd a program called GPStest that shows satellites (handy app) and no satellites showed at all, even though it showed GPS was on.
On Google maps, it just kept telling me that my position was temporarily unavailable forever. Same with Where.
After doing the steps in my post, all of these programs work properly now. At least today they do. And GPStest shows everything it should.

Mine works, but only when I'm out in the open. When in a vehicle it does not. I really don't need Sprint NAV while walking.

love the phone... it's soo underrated - especially with all the 'blah' reviews on it... i think it's awesome.

was watching the bears - 49ers game yesterday on the NFL network on the phone and the picture was so much clearer than my instinct... you could actually make out the players' faces. my friends were blown away by the clarity.

loving the applications and the possibilities with the phone... now someone needs to root the phone so that i can put the applications on the SD card instead of the phone memory... i'm running out of room! LOL.

my slider has a little play when closed now... anyone know any fixes for this?

Sliders are designed to have a just a bit of play. You will notice it in the direction that the slider is supposed to open and just a little bit if you move the top portion from side to side, but it should still feel solid in your hand.

I had a Palm Pre and that thing had gaps and wiggle galore! The Moment is ten times more solid than the Pre. Palm should take some notes on this.

Aww crap I totally forgot I could have done this! Here I thought I was an out of luck cable customer.
Was it available through the NFL widget?

yeah, my first slider - so i'm not that well versed in the nuances of how much play it should have. it does feel solid to me, just throws me a bit that there's a little give on the edges... not a big deal for me.

yeah, i watched it through the NFL Mobile widget/APP that comes with the phone - i turned off the real time monitoring (still getting used to this whole widget versus app thing)...

they always stream the games that are on the NFL Network (usually the Thursday night games). it was really clear for me.

I had to sign up to android forums after I saw this thread....

I love seeing that people also agree this phone is underrated, especially vs the Sprint Hero. In fact, if you google "Samsung Moment Underrated" you will see some of my reviews ;)...I suck at reviewing/articulating my points via typing, but nonetheless I really want prospects to see comments about the phone being underrated.

This phone is the underdog imo and needs much more love, I'm so tired of the stupid design arguments. Granted I would love if the phone was a bit "cooler" looking or had a sleeker design, but at the end of the day it is honestly the best phone I have owned and that includes my iphone.

My favorite app so far is Handcent SMS. One of my biggest complaints was the lack of notifications for text messages, but this app solved that problem.

What's your setup for Handcent SMS? Did you get the LED to work?

I have to say I feel the same way about my moment. I was considering returning it and getting a Droid instead as they're roughly the same price, but thankfully I went to try one out first. Droid has the advantage in screen quality and software, but the Moment has a definite edge in the keyboard and camera quality(Yes, 5MP > 3.2MP, but every photo I took with several Droids looked grainy and washed-out) departments, and those were the dealbreakers for me.

Once I can get my hands on Eclair and readily available 32GB microSD cards, I'll be more than content.
