I just got my Hero and did the 2 yr contract. Well, last night my phone broke. The back button no longer works and my SD card is toast...

I have TEP, but am pretty upset that I'd have to pay the deductible when I JUST payed $80 for the phone. Is there some kind of 30 day warranty or something I can do or return it (broken) and get something else?

Sprint does a 30 day worry free guarantee. Take it back. Now. Make them give you another one.
Even if it is damaged, what if they say its my fault and...

(PS- thanks)

Just curious... why didn't you go with the EVO, or wait until the Samsung Epic (Galaxy S) comes out?
Because I love technology, but am not a have to have the latest just to say I do and pay more (why I don't have an iphone too). Hell, I was still rockin a Rumor. I could text like a teen on that thing. Between work and home I am on the computer with internet, so I am not someone who uses mobile internet much at all. My favorite thing on the Hero/Android is my calendar feature and the 5mp camera. So I am happy with that until the next latest/greatest comes out in 2 years and EVO is $50

I woulda got the EVO if I knew I would end up paying another $50 two weeks after I got the Hero, but that's hindsight.

I don't think it should matter if it's damaged. I'm pretty sure it's a no questions asked policy. I mean what did you actually do to the phone? ....or "what happened" to the phone?

Either way, can't hurt to try, all they can do is say no. Then you're out fifty bucks, which you were going to be anyways, right?

Not really then he has to replace his phone and pay full price, LOL

I agree, if it is within the 30 day period, and you did not drive over it with your car, or dropped it in the ocean, then they will take it back, the toast SD card and the back button is not a reason for them not to take it back, report back with your progress

Thanks guys...I won't say that I am not at fault, but it is not in pieces. :)

I am going to call Sprint since I got it online. I am sure the store will give me BS b/c I got it online...Especially after I went there to look at the Hero and the guy was trying to sell me when I told him I'd rather get the instant discount online and not wait for a mail in rebate to come back!

My concerns were that the battery got bent and the case wouldn't fit on...I fixed that though. Also, the screw sticker is gone b/c I poked around thinking I could fix the button (I was perplexed how I could not see ANYTHING wrong)...Hopefully things work out.

I called Sprint and basically they said our phones have a 1 year guarantee (unless physical/water damage). Now I just have to take it to the store and hope they don't give me any ish.

So if my grandfather's phone doesn't show his missed calls as well as some other stuff and he's had it less than a year, he should be good.

Yes. If he has the Hero it's a 1 year manufacturer warranty against stuff that SHOULDN'T break. Obviously, if he dropped the phone or damaged the phone the warranty is useless.... but if his speaker stops working then it would be covered.
