To my fellow South Florida people, picked up 4G signal in Pembroke Pines!!

Just driving through Pembroke Pines picking up my girl from work, got a 4G signal. I couldn't connect to the network, just said 4G network available.

Hopefully this means 4G will go live soon!!

I was driving down University drive between Pines and hollywood blvd (near the airport).. It came on briefly, by the time down by the turnpike it was gone

Its not online anywhere, but 4g is up in areas in Jacksonville, Fl.

EDIT: isn't 4G kind of useless when it comes to being in buildings? I read A LOT of people saying it has horrible building penetration and only got a good signal when outside. Hearing that, I know I will def not be able to use it at work, as at work my 3g signal just drops dramatically, sometimes going roaming.

Still scanning here in Pompano. How long does the scanning usually take?

Miami has had a signal for atleast 60 days. I think Aug-Sept Miami will see service.. Jacksonville, Daytona etc should be live in Aug.

If I remember correctly they made a deal with the city of Miami so negotiations may be the hold up..

There are some smaller wimax companies there..

I'm In Orlando and I've got no 4G yet...though from what I read online, shouldn't all of the locations in florida (Orlando, Tampa, Miami, etc) be going active with 4G around mid august? Thats what I had thought.

That's one thing that worries me as well. AT&T has 3G at 850 MHz and Tmo is like 2100 MHz (I think). Tmo signal has always been weak inside of buildings in my experience so I was thinking that Sprint's 2500 MHz 4G is going to be even weaker yet.

That would sort of make me not go with Sprint since I pretty much "need" simultaneous voice and data.

I got a working 4G signal just fine in and aroud the Tinseltown area of Jacksonville. The network worked pretty well.


I also got a signal in the Pembroke Pines/Cooper City area as well. Heading North on Flamingo Road about 2 miles from the 595 bridge.

My Evo is also showing 4G available just not able to obtain an IP address from Sprint.
This was attempted while inside my house.
Also tried in South Dade (Pinecrest) and it only scanned but no 4G signal

Yup no 4G signal in Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, or Cutler Bay.
