From the article it looks like it won't be Espresso that'll be the problem, but the 600 MHz processor. Regardless, I'm sure that it will be no more than a matter of days after Gingerbread's release that somebody will be the first to have it on their Slide. If you really want it, it'll be a Root and a Flash away. You'll lose Espresso, but with Gingerbread's revamped UI you might not want that back anyway.

But I ask again, how the hell is 3.0 coming out, if 2.2 isn't even out on most phones?...

Because the developers that did 2.2 aren't going to just sit there bored waiting for their already finished project to be deployed to all phones before starting work on the next version. Odds are they already had people working on "what should 3.0 have/look like" while the nuts and bolts developers where making 2.2 a reality.

...Also say bye bye to HTC Sense and Motorola MotoBlur. 3.0 gingerbread will have it's own UI, and won't allow sense or motoblur to run. (i read that on another forum, so I don't know how accurate that is)

I read that Google's goal is to make those skins obsolete, not to disallow them...

they should disallow them from making there own skins.... it just makes it harder for people to get updates that way. Android should be easily updatable and these companies are just screwing people out of updates just so they can try to make their phone LOOK the "prettiest"

That would sort of go against the whole "open" philosophy and be kind of, well, Apple-ish...
