The above link is to an article that says Droid will get theirs on the 13th. Throw this among the many other rumored release dates.

Root is the way to go, though. I've been running FroYo for a while now. But for those who don't want to take the plunge, your update is on the horizon and you don't have to wait long it looks like.

This is third different media outlet that has reported the update starting 7/13. For those who have remainded stock it sure would be nice if it's true. Considering the delays that we had with 2.1, I'll believe the update is coming when I actually see a stock phone running 2.2.

Does Froyo improve speeds on non-overclocked phones? like, is browser render speed faster? pinch and zoom smoother etc?
I don't want to root if I don't have to, basically.

Yes it is faster al around

It is WAY faster, but make sure you don't OC it too much or flash the wrong kernel or else your battery life will be terrible.

1. They are rumored to start on the 13th.... it could take awhile to distribute the update.

I don't remember where I read it on this forum ( Probably in the massive FroYo compilation post) that verizon would start filtering it out to droids mid july. So like 2.1 something like 1000 will get it, then another 1K, and filter it out that way, other wise we'll all crash the uplink because I know that ever since I found out about FroYo being official I have been checking my software update like every 2 hrs!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I read another article like that, but they seemed to think it was only for the droid X, not the original droid. Since most of us are trapped in a two year contract, we won't get to play with the droid x, and if we do, it's going to cost a pretty penny. Gotta love carriers. At least with verizon, i can actually make a call whenever i want and with the droid i can hold it however i want without worrying it will drop a call

The Droid X seems pretty tight, but I would prefer to have my keyboard. I can't even consider it. If 2.2 only comes to that device, it's OK with me. I would love to install to my SD card, but 2.1 does what I need it to, so it's all good.

Verizon has long said the Droid is getting 2.2, it's just when.

My newest rom...kangerade, said that it blocked an update. Not sure which one, but a msg came up stating that....who knows....I decided to root last week due to the capabilities and not knowing if it would be possible once 2.2 comes out.
