Hey

I have had my desire since Thursday since switch from the Blackberry Strom2. When i contacted Vodafone regarding upgrading my phone they told be that when using the S2 i used 5mb p/m on average, that was using bbm ALOT, Cnectd, twitter refreshing every 5 mins, using the internet, push email, weather update app downloads.

I downloaded 3G watchdog and it has told me with 3 days i have already used 56.27mb:eek: HOW?!?

All i have running, from what i know of, is twitter (5 min refresh), gmail, news, weather, cnectd, apps so basically the same.

Why am using LOADS more data using this desire?

Hope someone can shed some light :)

Thanks

I think they greatly underestimated your previous usage!

not by much:

"made 140.178MB of mobile browsing + data calls" << thats from my last bill. But still i am using more on the Desire.. but why:thinking:

Unbilled:

I have noticed the Desire seems to pull more content that seems almost PC browsing quality than a lot of older mobile browsing. Maybe its the quality of what its downloading. Especially as it can download Flash and Youtube.

probably, but that doesnt answer why its using 2.6mb while sitting on my bedside table doing nout, besides twitter and weather.

switch auto sync off (Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Auto-sync)

switch background data off (Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Background data)

switch wireless network positioning off (Settings -> Location -> use wireless network positioning)

download one of the apn switches. (apn droid, switchpro, etc)

switch stuff on/off when u need it... choose what u wanna keep on/off

any of these things should help

I noticed something similar on my bill, but it was seemingly once a day at around midnight it would use about 3mb of data. During the week I'm in bed and asleep by then so it's not me. Glad I've got unlimited data!

im in south africa and also noticed the same
even if i kill all background apps
the phone downloads data
it seems its the htc updator, gmail(even tho its set to manual sync)
auto sync is disabled, background is also set to off
wonder if there is a way to disable such downloads
or if there was an app that can make the application ask if it cud use mobile data or not?

I'm experiencing extremely high data usage 20+ MB per day after I installed Froyo. Before my daily max was 6 MB.

Has anyone experienced this behavior?

Can you suggest a data monitoring app that tells me data usage app by app? I have watchdog, and Netcounter and Netmonitor, but they are general, and cant tell me what app is doing all the mischief.

I live in Hungary and unlimited plans have bee abolished years ago, so I'm stuck with a caped one that get very expensive if I overrun.

All help would be appreciated greatly...

Thanks

I've been experiencing the same problem and have yet to figure it out. So far all I've heard is that facebook htc sync is the culprit, but I don't have that running on my phone.
