The Droid X scares Apple

I have been using a LG Voyager (christmas gift) and a 32gb Ipod touch for the last 2 years biding my time, loathing my 2 year contract and waiting for the release of the Iphone 4 but then the droid X was announced and have spent my time since obsessing over previews, reviews, specs, hands on youtube videos, news articles and everything Android. And this is the conclusion I have come to.

I have been following Droid X news and reviews hardcore for the last 3 weeks as well as Apple/Iphone 4 news.
Apple is desperately trying to maintain the crown while the castle walls crumble around them. The Droid X truly is the first of I'm sure many Android contenders coming within the next 2 years. Unlike the Evo 4g it is on the Verizon network and packs more features and stability than any other phone with the exception of the Iphone that finishes first only by a spider hair.

In the past 2 weeks Apple has dispatched "rumor spys" to announce "IPHONE COMING TO VERIZON!!"

Yeah well we've been hearing that for a year now. But I am actually certain this time the rumors ARE true. But the point is the usually secretive "Apple" all the sudden has leaks just in time for the Droid X release.

Today I read that Apple has said that the antenna issue isn't the problem. They say it was a "flaw" with Iphone software displaying better reception (more bars) than there actually was and that when bridging the wifi and cell antennas touching the two at once users were displaying the "actual" coverage. Well this tells us two things.
1. Apple knew that AT&t had sub par coverage that wouldn't be able to handle data heavy phones and it would show.
2. Apple tried to cover the bad AT&T coverage by making the coverage look better than it is.
Why would they do that you ask? Well think about it. When the Iphone 1g was first released there weren't many "smart phones" that also included the multimedia hand held entertainment aspect. You had Blackberry that did a lot of innovative businessy things but lacked any real fun. Then along came the admittedly awesome, futuristic, and fun Iphone with tons of apps and features.

The phone was expensive for its time and no matter how much the phone could do it would be hard to do all the great things in less than a month especially on a completely new un matured product. So imagine you go buy this Iphone and you know you have 30 days to see whether you like it but the first thing you notice is all the places the phone doesn't get reception. The last thing Apple wanted was bad press at a time when the whole world was lauding their greatness. Another news story that broke today was that an app maker had figured out how to hack into the Itunes App Market and charge random Itunes users for his products thus launching 40 of his apps to top status. Apple just got around to fixing this problem even though it has been ongoing for some time. Well all the secrets are coming out now. And Apple is scrambling while the bad news keeps coming and they watch their stock plummet as fast as Ilemmings off a cliff and into the ocean. But none of this recent disaster is Apple's biggest problem. The problem is while all this bad Apple press is lingering Iphone competitors sporting an ever improving Android operating system are releasing innovative envelope pushing products every month while Apple and mac fanatics will be waiting at least 1 1/2 to 2 years respectively for Apples next Iphone hardware update that will again be adding new "original features" to compete with the technological competition that came since it's last game of catch up.

Just my opinion.

It might be true..or you might be seeing what you want to see. Lol

Makes sense though. I still hope that the iPhone comes to Verizon. I love it and the Droid X. Once we get the iPhone on big red hopefully we can stop fighting a little although I doubt that will happen. Haha

Won't happen though, I don't have a problem with apple but a lot of people do. Bringing it to Verizon would be huge but the people that hate them are not going to change because of that. The next thing to complain about will be iphone users taking up our bandwidth.

if verizon gets the iphone its game over for ATT, so many customers of theirs only stay cause of that phone. and if you can get it on a better network people will switch. even if verizon is more expensive. i wouldnt get the iphone i like android better bt iphone users are absolutly insane and cannot be reasoned with. lol

id like to see how much data iphone users actually use in a month. i avg 1gb a month on bb tour when i had it and i was a very heavy data user internet an hour a day, 6hrs of internet radio and 20 emails a day and 50 texts a day.
on my dinc iv been useing 2gb a month now since i got it. and my usage is about the same. i use the internet a little more and browsing the market. i think verizon can handle the extra users. they are always putting money into the network last year 6 billion into the network for expansion and capacity . last year att invested 130 million. big difference and it shows thats why att is so crappy. wanted to put all their money in their pockets.

I think that if Apple brings the iphone to Verzion, we will have the same issues Att is having now, but with the lte roll-outs and the rumor that LTE might be sim-card capable, it might happen, regardless, android and google know that Verizon has done a lot in bringing their os to the forefront and i doubt that they will want to loose that partnership, plus, the droid ads have been targeting the iphone leading me to believe that verizon wants to stay out of the whole-iphone drama, a lot of the google fan-base is based on the Droid and subsequently Verizon, i doubt they want to loose that market, if they rejected it the first time, they can do it again.

Well the problem is the Iphone is a 'media' phone and media eats bw. Android phones aren't a lot different (though they aren't as well integrated) but BB's were much more business oriented which tends to be a lot lighter on bw consumption. One full length movie is more than 50,000 emails.

I actually think it may help AT&T to loose the exclusivity.

First, because of contracts, a huge percentage won't jump ship, but some will leave.

Second, it might help them as Iphone users on another network may clog that network or have the same complaints about drop calls as on AT&T. I am surprised that Apple hasn't blamed all there antenna problems on AT&T too, but once they are on multiple networks they can no longer blame AT&T for their problems.

Third, AT&T might start embracing Android and the Iphone may take the same path the MAC did in the war with the PC.

IMO Apple is not scared. Despite the reception issues and the easily breakable casing 1.7M iphone4's have been sold and who knows how big that waiting list is. The extra large ipod touch I mean ipad has sold 80 million.

The good news is with all these Android phones coming out it will force Apple to make improvements and keep the price at $199.

Same boat and I'm hating Windows Mobile more than ever. Will the 15th ever come?
That's my concern. Will the 15th ever come? I at least pre ordered at Best Buy but I did it the day before they stopped taking pre orders. What if I don't get it on the first day of release? I think I might freak out... seriously. I can't wait until the 25th or god forbid August!!

iPhone going to Sprint not VZ.

Why, becasue VZ announcing iPhone going to VZ is stupid at this point as it would kill all iPhone and X sales.

It makes more sense for iPhone to go to Sprint as it gives Apple more control. No way is VZ going to let Apple come in a dictate how the iPhone will sell on their network. They don't need iPhone, but Sprint does.

Another thing VZ is poking fun of the iPhone in it's ads and has a great partnership with Moto. I don't see iPhone in VZ near future.

I think eventually the Iphone will go to VZW. It's a good thing because it appeals to a wide range of users. The iphone can be summed up in a few words "Simple, Easy to Navigate". That means more people going to VZW for service. For those of us more tech savy users who want more and better features, that is what Android devices such as the Droid X and Moto Droid are for.

I like to give Iphone users who tell me Iphones are better because they sell more this analogy: "Just because Toyota sells more cars than Mercedes doesn't mean they make a better car than Mercedes."

Almost every iPhone 4 user that I've come across hasn't even heard about the issues concerning the phone. Maybe like 1 in 7 has heard about the death grip, fragile glass, yellow spots, etc. If you count only women, that number is probably 1 in 100 lol.

The day is coming soon where Android phones will dominate the iPhone. 2Ghz processors, Gingerbread, 4G/LTE/WiMax, all this will be out before the next WWDC crApple conference when they announce the next iPhone.

Here's the point. Regardless of what Apple screws up on, or what new Android devices come out, there will still be a majority of the people that continue to buy the iPhone because of the name. The iPhone 4 vs EVO cartoon parody on youtube couldn't be more accurate. ;)

One day this may change, but it will be a few years away IMO.

I'm really starting to think it's because of the name because I, for the life of me, can't figure out or comprehend how anyone who uses Andriod or Windows Mobile, could possibly downgrade from one of those to the iPhone. It truly baffles me.

No flash or full internet experience on the iPhone is the ultimate deal-breaker as far as I'm concerned. I spend alot of time on the internet on my phones. That's for starters. And there's too many things that Apple has done or is doing for me to even justify purchasing an Apple product in the first place.

No thanks. Andriod is taking Apple and the iPhone by storm and I hope it continues that way. Go Google!
