Suggestions before I send G1 back..

Well I used to have the Sidekick ID for just the data plan becuz i liked the interface on it for the data, cept the internet was old and didnt support anything but basic html. But have a Sprint phone for voice because I think the service is better than tmobile and I need my phone for work.

So I ordered the G1 and now I hear that I cant just have the impaired hearing plan (data). They are wanting me to get a voice plan, but I dont need one because i already got the Sprint phone.

Now my boss says that he is willing to add voice to my tmobile service for work. Which sounds good but the problem now is that the G1 still doesnt have corporate email. And most of all, the battery life SUCKS!!!! So its not gonna be reliable for business. But I love the touchscreen and the Web browsing especially Wi-fi option, the instant messangers suck and dont work for shit.

So does anyone have any suggestions for me on other tmobile phones since I still have year left on damn contract?

Prolly has to be a blackberry but what one? I like the QWERTY keyboard, and real web browsing. But will need to have corporate email with tasks that will update to calendar. Dont care bout any multimedia capabilities.

Not that it helps now, but corporate e-mail applications should arrive soon.

My battery life has been much better over the last few weeks. I don't have 3G on (not in my area) or Wifi (no real need to leave it on). I also turn GPS (both types) off as I don't need that going all the time.

With those disabled, I can go a couple of days without charging if I'm mainly using it for calls and texting.

However, since I sit in front of a computer 5 days a week, I just plug it in on a mini-usb. With "Stay Awake" enabled, I don't have to worry about the screen locking.

You could keep waiting for the G1 to get better software and a better (1100 mah battery for 3g is just sad) hardware. I think you should look at ATT Bold if you want a mean machine, although its expensive. Also I think while Android is great as a platform, the G1 (HTC Dream) as hardware leaves much to be desired. I played with the G1 for about two weeks now and I feel like the hardware is not doing the software justice. Went back to my Nokia E71 for now, until a better Android driven phone comes out.

another note about LiOn batteries. They always start out bad, but after a dozen or so charge cycles (long ones....overnight is best), their per-cycle life improves. They thrive on use and long charges. Then, after 1.5 or two years, that life starts degrading. Keeping in mind that long charges will delay that degradation process. I read a lot of complaints at Hofo forums about those Tmobile Shadows. They had the same problems. But, then life improved after about two weeks of use.

I percieve better battery life in my G1 since the first OTA update, but you never know for sure. It might just be that I've gotten enough long cycles behind me.

Hopefully you spread this information to some other areas of these forums, there are many threads claiming better battery life post OTA update, but I suspect you are right regarding the battery lifecycle improving as well.

To Nifty, I went back to my E51 until G1 gets better, or another phone comes out.. How's the e71?

The e71 is pretty awesome, all the features I am looking for except the darn 3.5 mm headphone jack. Nokia ALMOST had it right, I guess they still think "business" people don't listen to music with regular headphones. I miss the big screen of the iPhone and the G1, but overall, when it comes down to being an excellent phone (voice, data, !1500 mah battery! ;) etc) - the e71 is excellent. To that end, it for getting things done and not so much for entertainment...
