Switching to Sprint - is Hero their 2nd best phone?

I'm moving over to Sprint. I'd rather not pay the $10 4G fee (or whatever you want to call that $10 fee), so I'll probably stick with a 3G phone.

Is the Hero the best option? What I really need the phone to be able to do is voice calling, text, email, web browsing, etc. I'm not a power user, so I don't think I'd use the full power of the Evo anyway, so that's another reason to stick with the Hero.

And if I understand correctly, I'd be eligible for upgrade pricing after 1yr with Sprint.

If by voice calling, you mean to say the contacts name or to say the digits you want to dial...the Hero does not do this well and if you want to do it from a bluetooth headset, the Hero does not do that at all.

Also I believe I read that new customers of Sprint must wait 18 months for their first upgrade. Anyone else that can confirm?

No, I just meant making phone calls the usual way. The most basic of phone functions, but some smartphones are designed to do everything but make decent quality phone calls.

Premier members can upgrade after 12 months. :)

The Hero is a good phone. Yeah, it's not top of the line but it should make calls, check emails and do the simple stuff just fine. Just remember that it's older technology so it won't be the fastest phone available.

Well I'm currently using a BB 8120, and web browsing on this thing is so painful that I never do it. I'm guessing that the Hero will make browsing easy/quick enough that I'll actually use it.

I guess it also works if you have a 69.99 plan with a corporate employee discount?

Does the EPRP 59.99 plan qualify?

Yes, I am on the 69 plan with a 25% corporate discount and am a premier customer.

That is a good question. I would think not because it's not a 69+ plan. It would depend on if it was a normal 69 plan discounted to 59 or if it was considered a plan 59 plan. Unfortunately, I don't know.

Oh, by no means is the Hero a perfect phone, but I find minor web browsing acceptable. I mean, I'd still rather use my laptop though.
Yeah, of course, a 3" screen can't compare to a laptop screen. But is it convenient enough that you'd browse the web if you were out and needed to find a nearby restaurant? On the BB 8120, browsing was so slow and painful that I didn't ever use it, even in situations like the one I just described.

Yes, it's fine for those kinds of situations and more IMO. I use mine to check work email etc without any problem.
